| Mar-21-08 | | Eyal: Btw, Kasparov was already quite a KID expert before his matches with Karpov (see http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches...) - but apparently he dropped it during the candidates matches of 1983, and came back to it only in 1988 (http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches...). |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: CRABBIN, why do you think he didn't use it against <Karpov> in his first two World Champ Matches? What is your opinion?
I need to know... |

| Mar-21-08 | | achieve: <Eyal>--<but apparently he dropped it during the candidates matches of 1983, and came back to it only in 1988..> The big question is indeed: WHY
I do not have any immediate answer. |

| Mar-21-08 | | Eyal: <Jess> About Tal - I got almost to the end of the interzonal, to that game against Panno, which is very complicated. It's really Tal at his best - showing wonderful tactical resourcefulness, he keeps posing difficult problems for his opponent until the latter "collapses". About Kasparov - It's a good question; I didn't really go over most of these games, and (like Niels) I can't say I have a clear answer. I'd guess he came to the conclusion that the KID wasn't solid or reliable enough for the very highest levels; he already avoided it against Korchnoi and Smyslov, not just Karpov. During the matches with Karpov he did employ the Grunfeld several times - especially in 1986 and 1987 - but overall, I suppose the way he came to play many times QGD lines with very solid reputation (rather than Tarrasch...) was part of Karpov's influence on his style. Glad to see you can still enjoy some chess despite your pains (or the effects of pain-killers). I really hope this break from the teaching won't hurt your work, but in any case take care of your health first! |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Hmmmm.. thank you gentlemen...
Well <Eyal> I "misremembered" my contract and I looked at it again this afternoon. I'm pretty sure my "work" (ie- job teaching English in Korea) is pretty safe). First, my contract is not with my school- its with the government regional school board. Second, two native English speakers recently just took off home without notice, so like <ziggurat> said I don't think they will be in any hurry to send me home for being injured. Heh they couldn't hack it here!!
Weasels. WHAOAA actually who knows.
Also, my Doctor assured me that the new President of Korea wants to import thousands more of us and he said today in fact "Don't worry about your job. You have to heal your torn muscles first". Also, my contract says I get 15 paid sick days per year. I've only taken a total of six so far. Also, the contract says I can take more sick leave (unpaid) if I need it. It actually doesn't say anything about replacing me, like I "remembered." Heh Chess study is endlessly fun-- ALMOST as much fun as playing. I"m in no condition to play, but I love the history of the games, players, and MOVES of course. I'm glad you're enjoying the Tal-- I love him also as you know. I was going through his "life and games" when I came here (cuz I have the book). I will stalk you to find out when you make Tal posts on the game sites. AROOOO whaah |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Heh right now I'm "analyzing" game 9 of the Second <Karpov v. Kasparov> World CRABBINSHIP. A closed <Ruy Lopez> and even though I never play it I'm memorizing the opening for fun. Interestingly, I'm not finding this difficult-- I think because I've played through so many Ruys at this website that I must have "accidentally" remembered a bunch of moves. I have my engine on as well. It's helping me understand that the move ORDER is very tricky and precise in the <Ruy>... I'm trying out various things I might play and then plugging it into my engine, which shows me why it's not a good idea. Thanks to you and <Niels>, I'm becoming more and more comfortable with my Engine. Though I'm sticking to the "rated fake humans" on my <Chessmaster> as Engine training opponents, at least for the time being. Though my brain is too fuzzy to actually play at the moment. AGG WHIPPA |

| Mar-21-08 | | achieve: <Jess> Not to sound preachy; but a neglected torn muscle strain can bother you for a LONG time... (Talkin years here..) Because of the process of new binding tissue that will be made at the spot of the laesion, which will accelerate if you pressurize the muscle too soon, and then causes the likelihood for a similar injury, to rise... On the other hand IMmobility is also a danger, and hinders the healing... Hence follow the advice of a knowledgeable Fysio to find the right balance there... I once tore a muscle by throwing stones to the other bank of a river, and injured a nerve -- which never really healed properly... That's been almost 15 years now and it still is a disability. So take good care indeed... |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Thanks <Niels> I certainly will. My Doctor seems to know what he's doing, although how would I really know that? He's adamant that I not return to work too early-- and I have to go to the Hospital every morning for some <gruelling> (ACK) PHYSIOTHERAPY. So far I'm doing everything he tells me.
Thank goodness my Job pays my health insurance.
They have excellent state of the art medical services in Korea and if you have a government job the cost to me is ridiculously low. Example-- In BC they supposedly have "universal health care" but in practice, the <Canada Health Act> is flouted by every Provincial Legislature. In Canada, this amount of drugs and physiotherapy would cost me hundreds and hundreds of dollars a week. Here, it's only costing me a coupla dollars a day.
I promise to take your advice!!
After all, you ARE a <Doctor>. You even have your own <Center> for Cripe sake!!!! thank goodness for <Niels>,
Your pal Jess
(I can't stand it-- I HAVE to play. I'm going in against a <fake human> on Chessmaster!!) Well I can't help it!!

| Mar-21-08 | | achieve: <Jess> Good! Beat them fakes to a pulp. (line I remember from a movie, I think...) Health Care in Holland is a funny animal....
Eg when I have a GP's prescription I can have the first 9 visits to the Physio payed for me-- after that I have to pay for myself... Btw the monthly costs for the insurance package for let's say people on welfare income, has increased by more than two-fold... It's now more than 12% of a social minimum income. Really a big chunk. Our Health system has been privatised a few years ago, and it only benefits the rich-- it cripples the already less fortunate and poor... But I'm not complaining... What does bother me to no end is the deterioration of the care for chronically ill, elderly and handicapped people... The ones that deserve the best possible treatment are in fact in the worst position here, for cryin out loud... As the Bible says: Count the days that you are young, able and healthy... (paraphrased-- I always paraphrase in English and hope for the best) Regards,
Mother Theresa

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Dear Mother.
Yes, and unfortunately this is the world trend as well. It's a shame. Well maybe they will soon just euthanize the old and week to make food out of them, as in the movie <Soylent Green>. <Fake Humans>?
I dont think so <Niels>. I just lost to a program set to the playing strength of an uncooked vegetable. how embarrassing!!
Oh well, now is not the time to play obviously.
All in its time. I shudda just kept to studying.

 | | Domdaniel: <Jess> I don't know from hips, but your hipness is irreproachable and beyond injury. Opiates are far from being the worst drugs where chess is concerned. They mess with your time-sense but the basic mental functions still operate. Unlike certain other substances I could name, notably alcohol. Even Tal got into that territory for a while, but I guess he had a lot of pain to kill. Sweet dreams. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Doctor Black should play his pawn to <d3> here. It's a mate in two-- except for the white rooks.
but they can't stop the mate.
All the white rooks can do after <d3> is commit suicide. Do I win a bun?
Heh the world's best can miss anything under pressure. Plus, when you're playing, you never know when you have a totally winning move. Although sometimes you do.
<CRABBIN> heh Calamity Piglet maybe... <Dom> thanks mate!! Go gettem for Frogspawn glory! |
