 | | jessicafischerqueen: CRAABBIN!
I just got back from the <FIDE> home page and I found the formula they used to plan the WC cycle!! I found it quite easy to follow, as I'm sure you will as well: <A partition of an interval [a,b] is a finite sequence . Each [xi,xi + 1] is called a subinterval of the partition. The mesh of a partition is defined to be the length of the longest subinterval [xi,xi + 1], that is, it is max(xi + 1 − xi) where . It is also called the norm of the partition.A tagged partition of an interval is a partition of an interval together with a finite sequence of numbers subject to the conditions that for each i, . In other words, it is a partition together with a distinguished point of every subinterval. The mesh of a tagged partition is defined the same as for an ordinary partition. Suppose that together with are a tagged partition of [a,b], and that together with are another tagged partition of [a,b]. We say that and together are a refinement of together with if for each integer i with , there is an integer r(i) such that xi = yr(i) and such that ti = sj for some j with . Said more simply, a refinement of a tagged partition takes the starting partition and adds more tags, but does not take any away.> |

NOOOOO!!!!
Good Grief I've got to play two games tomorrow on Yahoo and I need all my brain for it!! Heh. Rather, I GET to play two games tomorrow and I can't wait to "mix it up" with Black and then White. Although your puzzle was torture, it was doubtless good exercising for my brain and now a nice night's sleep and INTO ACTION TOMORROW in the "chess shrtruggle". <whole story> heh yes I noticed the last three day's "discussion" is being carried on "off page" in several of the "combatant's" fora. These people, none of whom I have any problem with (although that's irrelevant), would ALL rather pull their own heads off than admit they even "might have been" wrong about something. No playing nice in the sandbox!!
Henrik Carlsen must think these people are crazy.
That's what he told me the other day when we had a nice lunch of tea and delicious pickled herring. |

| Apr-12-08 | | Boomie: Sonny: Anybody know where this Morelia is?
Sal: Ya. It's in my territory. It's perfect for us. They have those old fashioned toilets. You know, the ones with the pull chains and no cameras. We could tape the bishop behind it. Clemenza: OK, Mike, here's what you do. You start the game and play your usual Najdorf. Then you go to the can. Better yet, ask the arbiter for permision. When you come out don't mess around. Bf4 and Qh2#. Sonny: I want somebody good to tape that bishop. I don't want my brother coming out with just his grand prix in his hand. |

| Apr-12-08 | | metatron2: <jessicafischerqueen: I MIGHT have figured out that Qxh6+ doesn't work and then I probably would have just grabbed the Black g and h pawns and tried to win from there.> It would have been quite difficult to win from there I think, since after Qg5+ black would probably have played Rg5 |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: hi <metatron2>!
thanks very much for dropping by the "madhouse."
Yes, I fear I would have played that line and lost, as you point out. However, you probably realize that in my "ratings range" Black is unlikely to find the best moves either from this position. To the eye, it looks like White has such a massive positional advantage that a person might drive herself crazy finding "the win" here. Question-- Is Bg6 the ONLY winning continuation for White? And, how far back did <Anand> calculate the tactics so that he got this position in the first place? Do you think he calculated right up to Bg6?
I wouldn't put that past him. He is our World Champion for a reason. Drop by again soon, or any time!! |

| Apr-13-08 | | Eyal: click for larger view<Jess> <Question-- Is Bg6 the ONLY winning continuation for White?> I was curious about it as well - apparently, it's the only continuation that wins immediately and by force; 32.Qxh6+ should probably lead to a win eventually, but it's evaluated "only" in the +2.00 zone. However, Fritz gives 2 other moves besides Bg6 very high evaluations - 32.b4 and Bd3. The main idea of <b4> is to kick the black rook off the 5th rank, so White can gobble up g5 as well after Qxh6+ Kg7, and/or play Bf5. if Black responds with 32...Rd5, Bg6 becomes even deadlier (because in a certain line the rook is less well placed there than on c5), but if you insist on keeping Bg6 out of the picture, there's also the idea of [32.b4 Rd5] 33.Qxh6+ Ke7 34.Ba2 trapping the rook. <Bd3>, on the other hand, doesn't seem to have much "independent value" as an idea – it's main point is apparently to prevent Black’s "threat" of improving his position by d3 followed by Qd4 (so that Bg6, for example, might be answered by Qg7), and so it basically keeps White’s winning options open for the next moves. |

Jessie. You're my sister and I love you but don't ever play against the family again...ever. I munched your tasty tidbit. Surprisingly tasty that horse meat. After a year or two of mayhem, you will have a good foundation for understanding positional chess. That may sound strange but you must first understand why certain lines are avoided. The hardest things to see are those that aren't there...heh. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: No Problem <sitzkrieg>, I think the way those Patzers ganged up on you and <slomarko> is disgusting. They will resort to fascist methods to make sure the thead is "fan boys" only-- no critiques allowed or they will be silenced. |
|
| Apr-14-08 | | achieve: <Jess> <sitz> You guys know I fully back you in every word you said, IE, the characterization of the double standards, twisting of words said, personally insulting remarks to evoke an uncontrolled reaction and then pounce on it, at the same time getting off on it themselves because of the rush it provides... Having the "need" for ganging and "gathering", in order to avoid throwing a infantile panic attack themselves... --- And that's just me getting started...
Been there, done it, suffered it.
But I despise it with the core of my being, whereever the heck that core may be located... It's like reading an open book. I've seen it of course all happen before, and was in part a victim myself... I promised to never ever let that happen to myself in my life again, because of the potential destruction that can result from that intellectual and emotional onslaught... It's all very easily detectable, of course, but still a surprise (initially) to encounter it in the way it does here at several pages at CG. Difference here being that you can walk away from it at any time, but lose some of the joy in kibitzing here, resulting in the disappearance from here by a few guys that I particularly liked... Obviously it's hard to not let it get under your skin - the written word is powerful - let alone the difficulty and time it takes to get it out of one's system... In my initial naiveté upon joining CG in 2005, it being my first interaction with kibitzers in my life, I was amazed to see the real-life dynamics surface so easily. What is found at the root in order to have fascist tendencies develop and take form? Right, I'm sure you know what I mean... I was of course naive at first, but this website had me meet people like <Jess>, always ready to cheer somebody up, talk chess, talk sensible, spam... The balance is always a large positive to me, and vice versa I know, and THAT's the only thing important to me... The only thing left to do if one wants to keep enjoying the landscape that is CG is to STEER AWAY from destructive and dysruptive elements... Hard it may be--- but <Domdaniel> made that clear to me a few timesin 2006 ans 2007, of course articulating his points much better than me... That is what I consider being wise and in a way, being a friend --- sharing your knowledge and insights to inform and help people around here -- being of support! The difference is like Day and Night.
Ever since I realized in what mess I had gotten by the age of 21-22, I decided to "try and steer" my life towards more peaceful and quiet surroundings and landscapes where I can spend my time; be around people. Regards,
A. Fan
