jessicafischerqueen: Hi <SAMMY> how the Heck are you?

Remember when I waxed you in that Sicilian?

Good times, good times...

Luckily, I've given up Correspondence as I'm finding it too irriating.

One more game to finish and then that's it.

What are you up to big fella?

are you watching the Big Chess Tourney?

I like the style of one of the home town heros, <Vulgar Gash in the Face>...

He appears to be fearless.

WAHHHHH.

Heh luckily I can stay up late to watch the action tomorrow night cuz I have Wednesday off.

Goooo <Vulgar Gash in the Face>!!

Looks like he will lose to <Kamka> tonight but he's a gutsy player.

Also, he's the only competitor with a "Heidelberg Duelling Scar"

Apr-28-08  positionalgenius: <jess>OK...you wouldn't play even unrated games during the school year?

Dont worry, I will get my revenge when we play live, when you visit <Southpark, Colorado>

I like that <vulgar gush> guy because he plays the dragon . I dont know how he will fare against the <jessfish attack> though ..after all that pretty much crushed me after I'd beaten IMs with the dragon :)

well, well ....when are you done with your stint in Korea ? Southpark awaits you :)

I lasted until the first two draws.

These guys are expert under <Sofia> conditions at getting perpetuals.

I wonder if they will start "signalling" each other for a perpetual offer? Heh.

Well I played a game today and boy was it tough, super tough..

almost 4 hours.

I'm putting my report here now.

jessicafischerqueen: <Improving Positional Chess> I'm Playing the Black side of a Najdorf here. hEH ALSO I won with it again-- In the last 2 months I am scoring best, by far, with Black Najdorf (I keep a thorough chess journal with game scores, opening statistics etc. from my games).

Stage one:

<Open Najdorf> (know the main variations before you do it).

OK after a solid opening by both players, I see an opportunity--my plan is to create an enemy <isolani> and then kill it, or use the THREAT of killing it to obtain some other kind of positional advantage.

End of step One: I am playing BLACK and he has just been forced to accept an isolani via <22...cxd4 23.cxd4> and now it is move 23, my move:

Stage Two: Killing the <isolani>

Position at move 34, my move--

click for larger view

Now I win his d-pawn via <34...Nxc5 35.dxc5 Qxc5>

Stage 3: Going in to the Endgame a pawn up and winning.

After capturing his d-pawn my "general plan" is to play actively and try to trade down where and when I can, with the idea that if all the pieces magically disappeared I would win the endgame.

So I managed to trade down to this: Endgame position-- WHITE to move-

And under mutual time pressure, I managed to create a passer on the Kingside and he resigned 14 moves from the last FEN position there.

Also, god dangit-- I lost the last 8 moves of my stinking game score- So much time pressure I stopped writing them down.

So, from the FEN, it went-

48.Kf2 f5
49.Ke3 Kf6
50.f4 Bc6
51.g3 exf4+
52.gxf4 g5
53.fxg5+ Kxg5

And here is my passer- I have no idea if this position is objectively "won" or not-- analysis welcome-- but I managed to win from here in "reality."

White to move- Can White hold here?

Well there's 4 hours plus of my life I'll never get back..

I have a headache but I feel very, very good about this game.

However, my Engine is "frowning" at me-- However, my <Shreddy 3> tells me that in the final position there in the FEN I am <plus 1.51> at 12 ply.

Oh well! It was hard work but it was exhilirating to play. I think he wore out mentally more than I beat him by finding great moves. Time for some aspirin and a walk!!

Apr-30-08  achieve: <Morphette>

First - Congrats on a fine win.

Second - I hope the walk did you good... Prolly should have gone for it in between game and PG-analysis. I think you sounded a bit tired at the end there.

Third - The position in your last FEN upthere should be a 100% win -- but I will keep open a 2% window for an unlikely escape to a draw.

I've been playing and analysing that position for over an hour and managed to discover aBOUT 6 DIFFERENT SCENARIOS for White to try and hope for a draw/mistake in judgement by Black.

Just stating that an exchange of Bs at e4 is an IMMEDIATE WIN for Black - tho the stupid engine realises that after 10+ seconds

Regarding the other possibilities for White to activate his King and Bishop (a2/c2/d3) all fail, I have found...

The White King cannot centralize itself from your last FEN except via d4-e5, but that will lose as I have found out.

If you're interested in lines and variations on several other themes as well, I will happily provide them.

My advise however, is to perform a thorough investigation on thaT ENDGAME and squeeze it out until there is not ONE SINGLE DROP LEFT with regards to White's drawing chances...

In order to be able to do that you should be well rested.

I found it MOST interesting sofar and investigating this Endgame works wonders for your technique development and the subtleties invoving the GOOD KIND vs BAD KING and GOOD BISHOP VS BAD BISHOP as well as the pawnstructure you have (relatively) fixed on one side and liquid on the other.

Again, very well played from a positional point of view as well.

THIS IS CHESS!

... from which TWO main branches arise, both of which will have to be dealt with precisely.

Almost superfluous to say that comp evals are of little value, as the horizon here - Black Queening (on the queenside) - is well past its horizon.

It's either 1-0 or it isn't.

Apr-30-08  Boomie: <JessieKim>

Fun having you at the games last night. We sure do mangle the language, don't we? I love the way our minds don't work.

Way to grind your opponent into dust.

<I think he wore out mentally more than I beat him by finding great moves.>

Positional games are a test of will. The point goes to who wants it the most.

Bones: The Tribbles seem to reproduce at will. And they have a whole lotta will.

When tactical and positional players are matched, the results are usually an embarassment for tactics. Steinitz-Zukertort and Lasker-Marshall are examples. Perhaps the tactical player doesn't have the patience to endure.

Heh yes it's fun to call people by the wrong names.

Thanks so much for coaching me this year TIME BOMB!!

I'm slowly learning to play a different kind of chess, kind of by force, since I'm playing much tougher opponents than I ever have before.

I'm not patient by nature, but I REALLY wanted to win this game today.

I want to learn to play like <Bobby Fischer> (his style- I have no illusions about my true playing strength or potential)

BTW, I checked out <Vulgar Gash in the Face> Profile and he's playing the best chess of his life right now.

Goooooooooooooo <Vulgar Gash>!!!

Perhaps he will play feisty tonight.

Good GRief!! Is that your travelogue from China?

You sound a bit like <Hunter S Thompson> there.

I hope all is well with you!!

Apr-30-08  BishopofBlunder: Hi <Jess>,

Just stopped by to say "Howdy", as we say here in the great state of Texas. I have been very busy (read: lazy) lately (I must answer that note from the Queen) and haven't had any time to visit Chessgames in a while.

At least, not since this:

<achieve: <I haven't looked at the game, but my guess is 1.Bd6. All black responses that I tried either lose a piece (most likely the bishop) or the game.>

<Bishop> You nailed it!>

I shall have to mark this day on my calendar as the day I got a puzzle correct.

Love and Misses,
<Bishop>

P.S. Is Korea still overrun with Koreans?

No thats' not me- I'm nowhere near as sexy as that girl.

However, <Chessmoron> put a picture of some HO up there that didn't look anything like me, so I gave him details about what I look like- and he did a kind of "police artist's search" on the Net.

So the Hair color length and style, body type/shape, height, and general face of that picture is pretty accurate. But she's a model and I'm not as attractive as she is by any means.

I think it was his fourth try going from my description.

You can ask him for more details if you want as he found the picture, I'm sure he'd tell you.

May-01-08  Red October: <MAY DAY!! MAY DAY!!>

seriously today is May Day...

Happy May Day!

May-01-08  metatron2: <No thats' not me- I'm nowhere near as sexy as that girl.>

OK, thx Jessica.

I think that:

1. If the body shape, hair color, etc. are pretty accurate than I guess you are not too bad yourself...

2. Some of the men do not define women attractiveness entirely based on looks. I am sure, that for example, this model knows nothing about chess...

3. I am married with children so I am only talking theoretically here of course :)
