jessicafischerqueen: Heh not to mention a few men at <Mattel Electronics>..

RYBKA is evaluating Radjabov game at 0.00 and I don't know what the hell it's talking about with so many pieces on the board.

Woodchuck has a won game and is torturing Aronian about to go to 5 wins in a row...

I've been watching them by myself cuz none of the "fun" people are on the game page last time I checked...

WHACKA <Dr. Euwe> I have a thirst for chess... Just looking at the motionless pieces makes me happy.

Plus, despite my whining to <Positional Genius>, I'm actually winning my last two Correspondence games on <letsplaychess.com>.

One is against a 1983 rated player from Finland, I'm White in an Open Sicilian and it dawned on my while I was at work that he cannot avoid losing major material or being mated--

Choice is his.

Heh...

I believe I will keep 2 Correspondence games going after I finish these.

At 10 days a move, I think I can handle that.

Funny how they don't seem like a mental burden when I start winning them.

I'm still 1900+ rated and after these I'll have finished 20 rated games.

You have to finish 50 to get an "official" rating.

More live chess for me tomorrow...

Two Black games, or just one if it's a toughie.

May-12-08  achieve: <Just looking at the motionless pieces makes me happy.> Me too

It's nice and quiet on the surface... but underneath it...

It's so much better than the NBA - except the Jordan years.... maybe...

May-12-08  achieve: I copied a post by <chesstoplay> to my forum ( from the GMT page) -- wonderful chess community we have here.

PS. I will always be a hopeless romantic re the Jordan/Pippen/Bulls years... can't really help it.

Kick some ass in the morning!

May-12-08  Boomie: <JessieMessie: I'd be happy to help write an UNCENSORED TELL-ALL book about the <Great Jan Timman> v. the <Computer Expert GM-equivalent Sprawling, Brawling and Analyzing Hordes>.>

The book under question is The World vs GMAN. Of interest is how hundreds of certifiable creatures can organize into some semblance of a cohesive mass. All the organizational ideas such as forae were hatched in the GMAN game.

Also the GMJT game has been a total mystery to me almost throughout. The sequences are so esoteric that only a devotee could hope to decifer them. I have a better grasp of the GMAN game. I understand the Sicilian better than the Dutch. (It's just like a Sicilian to bring a bishop to a rook fight).

As for the actual work on the book, I wonder if it would be most appropriate to assign chapters to as many team members as possible. This strikes me as in the spirit of the experience. The chapters would have to pass through some kind of editorial filter to polish and coordinate the style and tone. Perhaps you and Dom could help there.

May-13-08  notyetagm: <CG.COM> Here is a game that I submitted to your database that would make a good Tuesday/Wednesday puzzle, on the theme of <TRAPPED PIECES>.

White to play: 34 ?

Great example of a queen not defending a square because she will be <TRAPPED>: 34 ♖d1x♗d6! ♕a6x♖d6 35 f4xe5 ♕d6xe5 and now 36 ♗e3-f4! <TRAPS> the Black e5-queen in the middle of the board(!) since it has NO RETREAT(!).

May-13-08  Boomie: <positionalgenius: <jess> Why are you adressing <boomie> as "GM Timofeev"?>

My name is Tim and Jessie loves to play with names. The GM stands for Good Man and yes, I am hard to find.

Domdaniel: Hej, Jess. A bit of Fischer source material for you .. picked up nearer Iceland than you or I usually venture:

<"There was no fanfare, no media, no fuss-- that would come later. Fischer didn't want a public ceremony; he didn't want his grave transformed into Iceland's next big tourist attraction. The last thing Bobby Fischer wanted was a media circus over his death. Fischer just wanted to be buried like a normal human being -- not as a chess player, just as a person.">

- Bless, Bobby. Requiem for the Black King. Remembering Bobby Fischer. By Sara Blask.

(Iceland Review, 46.01/ 2008)

(I'll attempt to wrap the whole thing up in an emu if you want -- it's not a great article, but it's a good one, and from an interesting perspective.)

And isn't it strange how the people I respect and/or admire often turn out to be recluses or mediaphobes? After Bobby there's still Pynchon and Scott Walker...

ciao, bella.

Chess pop-semiotic department sez: this is pretty weird. Unscrew the weirdometer... and, yeah, that other guy too.

A "Clare Benedict" is a type of nun (possibly flying).

"Chaumont Neuchatel" is a type of wine. After a bottle or two you'll believe a nun can fly.

The "Blau Max" was a World War I German award for aviators and aviatrices. None knowingly awarded to nuns, but I think Dr Nunn has one.

"Donner" is what cartoon German soldiers shout, and is also heard in the sky wherever Blitzen is seen. Or Santa Claus and his nuns ...

And there's that date. I was four days old back then, sigh. Yeurgh. A proto-ankle-biter, sans teeth.

What does it all mean? ... I'll check it out on the internun.

Wow, what a great combination by Radjabov, a 2700-level example of the <PINNING> theme.

This superb combination by Radjabov goes straight to the top of my best <PETITE COMBINASIONS> for the year 2008.
