| Jul-08-08 | | hoodrobin: <jessicafischerverybusy> Why fish pen makes you laugh? [I'm looking forward to fish for your giant pet - even if extinct]. |
Jul-09-08
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <fish pens> are used in fish farming all over my home province in Canada. Some of them even hire mice to ride the fish in from the range!! fish ranching.
They call the mice <fishboys>. Sometimes the voles dress up with a feather and shoot arrows at them. |
| Jul-09-08 | | hoodrobin: <jfq> sort of Robin Hood fishboys perhaps. |
| Jul-09-08 | | madlydeeply: Keep up the good fight against Leko, my Queen.
Queen of the tar sands.
Soon your country will have the priviledge of producing oil for our air conditioners. It will be a deep honor for your people. |
| Jul-09-08 | | madlydeeply: Hey, now don't say such things about the Dutch Doormat. He's personal friends with a billionare, you know. |
| Jul-09-08 | | madlydeeply: I thought all those salmon farms were polluting the yellow sea? Well ya learn something new every day. Look to see who is behind the fish farm in Canada... it could be papa Mao |

Jul-09-08
 | | jessicafischerqueen: Heh I just got back from your house.
Dont worry I'm not one of the <VAn Wheely> bashers. I was just giving the "stats" on the top three whipping boys around CG,.com. In fact, I've bet tons of Chessbucks on Van Wheely--
I've been one of his biggest boosters, as a fan of Dutch Chess and Dutch Chess history. I'm a personal friend of the great <Dr. Max Euwe> as well. He runs a <Chess Center> at <User: achieve> forum. |
Jul-09-08
 | | jessicafischerqueen: Heh, yes the long term biological data on <fishfarming> is just starting to become clear and it's not a pretty sight. According to some, the end result could be human extinction. I forget all the steps, though, and I'm too lazy to GOOGLE it. Mrs. Dilletante |
| Jul-09-08 | | madlydeeply: I used to pooh pooh Euwe until I realized that he went toe to toe with Alekhine for how many games? 50? Now there was the stud that was. |
Jul-09-08
 | | jessicafischerqueen: YES, there are great Dutch players, then and now.
My favorite is <The Great Jan Timman>. However the "game of the day" has <The Great Jan Hein Donner> getting the crap beat outta him by <The Great Sammy Reshevsky>. No flies on <Dr. Max Euwe>. Yes he didn't duck anybody and he got to be World Champion. He's a bit like Mohammed Ali, except not Black and not portrayed by Will Smith in a movie. |
| Jul-09-08 | | achieve: Dr. Euwe is the ONLY one doing the pooh-pooh-ing. And in style as well. I hope that's cleared things up. |
Jul-09-08
 | | jessicafischerqueen: Heh speak of the Dutch devil!!
It's the <Great Dr. Max Euwe> in person. And he's wearing an Elephant costume!!! |
| Jul-09-08 | | achieve: Just briefly looking in, you know me.
Best,
Bill |
| Jul-09-08 | | madlydeeply: Hmm, who would you pick to play Euwe? Rutger Hauer? Klaus Kinski? Bruce Willis? I can picture Bruce Willis sweeping all the chess pieces to the floor with his masculine arm and pulling out a .44 and shooting Campomanes between the eyes back in the 35th row of the LA colosseum. Hollywood is great at portraying chessplayers accurately. Did you notice the eerie similarities between Ben Kingsley and Bruce Pandoflini? In looks and in temperament? |
| Jul-09-08 | | achieve: Picture of the great Dr Max Euwe during a simul... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v... Some more photos and memorabilia, as well as recollections by the one and only <Malthrope>, are posted on the last page of my forum. Enjoy! |
| Jul-09-08 | | madlydeeply: Well I looked up the Chessgames stat and it appears that Euwe put the smackdown on Alekhine twenty times. Has anybody beaten Alekhine more times than Euwe? I will of course, ask achieve. |
| Jul-09-08 | | achieve: <madlydeeply> Indeed... I did a quick search but couldn't even come close to finding someone to have beaten Alekhine more than 10 times... "Alekhine is a poet who creates a work of art out of something that would hardly inspire another man to send home a picture post card." - Max Euwe |

Jul-09-08
 | | jessicafischerqueen: "Alekhine hasn't been in a real scuffle yet. He hasn't beaten a World Champion like me. I predict he falls in four." Mohammed Ali |
| Jul-09-08 | | achieve: Hey, <Jess>!!
"While he was hospitalized (during WW I) after being wounded (a contusion of the spine), he became the strongest blindfold chess player in the world. That's how great this guy was. I mean, when normal people go to the hospital, they are totally sad and in pain. Instead, he devoted himself to blindfold chess and became the best in the world in an extremely short period of time. You have to love this guy." – Terry Crandall (on Alekhine) Who the .... is Terry Crandall? But I love the quote. |
Jul-09-08
 | | jessicafischerqueen: How come there arent' any real blindfold blind chessplayers? I guess you'd have to see first and then lose your sight. Visualizing the board-- impossible...
Crandall's tea, I believe. Writes about chess and tea. <Alekhine> certainly a colorful and controversial player, going through many nefarious advantures and horrific circumstances... All the time dominating the chess world and scaring the crap outta everyone. He's the <George Foreman> of Chess. (Probably did a lot of work on the "heavy bag")...
Do you think <madly deeply> knows that we pronounce the doctor's name <oooh vay>?? Mrs. Alekhine's Gun |
| Jul-09-08 | | achieve: Is that what you been calling me? *shudder*
Well, "I knew" -- you can't possibly mess up pronunciation more than dear Tryson, his "Lilienthal" (recent vid) is hilarious: goes like:
liffenfall
The light bag was of course filled with TEA Leafs, which will obviously account for the origin of the quote and the Boxing stories that relate to them. Mr. Shoot |
| Jul-09-08 | | achieve: <Jess> The GOTD you mentioned: Reshevsky-Donner, was of course impressive by 'Schmul', but my engine showed that Jan Hein could have responded strongly around move 30 and force at least a draw... But Jan Hein did not pull a LEKO and went down like a man. Alekhine was really addicted to the game, a champion in the grandiose style of olden days, the word chess engine didn't even exist... But they can be a handy tool if you know how to work with ém. Good sparring partners... More interesting info is now being posted at the GMT page (hms123) heh - a wrye(spelling?) smile forms on my face now... Fear - but do not fear fear itself
| Jul-09-08 | | hms123: <achieve> Thanks for the shout-out. In a funny way the GMT game has now given everyone a chance to bring up some interesting things in a less charged environment. of course, <jessica-stirthingsup-queen> is probably going bonkers. <jess> now the bonhommie has you surrounded! |
| Jul-09-08 | | Eyal: <madlydeeply: Well I looked up the Chessgames stat and it appears that Euwe put the smackdown on Alekhine twenty times. Has anybody beaten Alekhine more times than Euwe? I will of course, ask achieve.> <achieve: <madlydeeply> Indeed... I did a quick search but couldn't even come close to finding someone to have beaten Alekhine more than 10 times...> There's Bogoljubov with 15 wins (out of 89 games); Euwe has 20 wins out of 86 games. That's a VERY impressive achievement, of course - but still it has to be remembered that no one else besides Bogoljubov got the chance to play nearly as many times with Alekhine as Euwe did (they played 3 matches - one in 1926/27, in addition to the 2 WC matches in the 30s). Capablanca is the one with the 10 wins (out of 50 games) - he would have had a chance to get closer to 20 if Alekhine hadn't systematically avoided playing him for almost a decade after their 1927 match... |
| Jul-09-08 | | boz: But, hey <jessicafischerqueen> the game needs players like Leko. What if there were no deserts? There'd be no genies, that's what. You've got to be prepared to go thirsty for awhile. |
