| Aug-14-08 | | notyetagm: Aronian vs Gelfand, 2008 Black to play: 25 ... ?
 click for larger view25 ... ♖f8-d8?? ♕b2-e5! 1-0
click for larger viewI just love this one-move tactic by Aronian (White), because it uses three(!) tactical ideas: 1) Game Collection: Pins against undefended pieces 2) Game Collection: Weak back rank 3) Game Collection: Telegraphing your move I particularly like how Aronian's 26 ♕b2-e5! turns the intended 26 ... ♖d8x♘d7?? into a deadly blunder, allowing the <BACK RANK> mate 27 ♕e5-e8+!. |

|
| Aug-16-08 | | Duck McCluck: Oh and I have to tell you this hilarious story--there is this other person living with me, and I realized that our 5-gallon zephyrhills jugs can be refilled manually from walmart's 2.5 gallon zephyrhills triangular-dynamic bottles (the ones on the bottom shelf on the water aisle) cheaper than our old subscription service and I was was too lazy to get up any time soon, so I didn't punch a hole in the 2.5 zephyrhills jug so that it would train ultra-slowly into the 5 gallon jug (that fits on top of our water cooler) and well anyways, I figured 2.5 + 2.5 = 5 but the pair of 2.5 gallon jugs I thought would run needlessly unattended, the other person said "I don't think its gonna hold it all" and I was at my computer, so I said <hit pause on the 2.5 gallon zephyrhills> LOL |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: HAHAHAHAHA AHAHAHAHAH!!
heh
<GM J.H. Donner> on the Organizer of one of the tournaments he played in: "We were soon convinced he had probably been a 'Gauleiter' during the war, who was now trying to make his come-back as a chess organizer. It's remarkable how quickly East and West agree when it comes to disliking krauts." HJAHAHAHAHAH
Well you just can't get that kind of chess journalism today. |

| Aug-17-08 | | notyetagm: Here is my loss against GM Sergey Erenburg (FIDE 2563) in a slow, rated OTB game from the Blackstone Open (http://blackstonechess.com/event88g...) in Pawtucket, RI. Do not laugh too hard at my 14 ... ♗d7-b5??.
Position after 14 ... ♗d7-b5?? 15 ♕c4x♗b5 1-0
 click for larger view
click for larger view14 ... ♗d7-b5 is the move I had envisioned playing before I played 10 ... e7-e6, 9 ply earlier. That is, from this position click for larger viewI thought that I would have the advantage in this line that I calculated which actually occurred over the board, since I would have the <BISHOP PAIR> and the GM would not be able to castle kingside with my bishop on b5, as compensation for my pawn deficit. <Yes, I had the balls to play a <pawn sacrifice line> against a GM in an OTB rated game.> It would have been a good idea if it didn't drop a piece. :-) Of course, my Black a5-queen is now <OVERWORKED>, since it cannot both <PIN> the White c3-knight _AND_ deny the b5-square to the White c4-queen.
So after 15 ♕c4x♗b5, I just stopped the clocks and resigned. Fritz 11 says that 12 ... ♗g4-d7! would have given me a winning position(!) against GM Erenburg. :-) (VAR) Position after 12 ... ♗g4-d7!
click for larger view<<<Damn is it intimidating to play a real GM OTB in a slow rated game!>>> Just to be clear, this was _NOT_ a simul. I was playing GM Erenburg mano a mano. :-) [Event "Blackstone Open"]
