Oct-20-08  Boomie: <Said in Jess>

Kramnik folded like a cheap sentence. He fell for a trap which GM Gonzalez saw two moves before it happened. That's what pawn grubbing gets you in a WC match. First ask youself "Why is the World Champion hanging a pawn here?" Ignore your opponent's moves at your own risk. Do not try this at home.

Domdaniel: <Boomie> - this - <First ask youself "Why is the World Champion hanging a pawn here?" > is sound advice for ordinary mortals, especially those who find themselves playing a world champion.

But what happens if the reasoning goes like this: <*I* am the legitimate matchplay world champion, whatever the petty rules say. I bested the mighty Kasparov in single combat. Therefore it is the duty of my opponents to leave pawns and stuff en prise. Thank you, I'll have that.>

Hubris clobbered by Nemesis, innit?

PS. I have *never* lost a game of go. I take the precaution of only playing against people I've just taught the game to. Works for me.

Oct-20-08  Ragh: <Wow, what an exciting game, big BIG miscalculation from Kramnik.> Congratulations to the World champion Anand on his victory. Thanks to Anand and Kramnik for entertaining us by producing another gem of a game today. Looking forward for round 6 game already.

  jessicafischerqueen: Hi <Rahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!>

heh= yes it looks like our dreams are coming true.

<GM Viswanathan Anand> <is> World Champion. He will <remain> World Champion. And there is no possible way anyone can ever say "OK he's champ <but> it's not unified, he's champ <but> it wasn't a match, he's champ <but> he didn't beat the guy who beat <Kasparov> in a match, He's champ <but> he lacks a "killer instinct, he's too nice a guy."

NO MORE.

never, ever, again.

The Tiger is a Cobra is a Killer.

His moves are <murderous>, as <Domdaniel> called one of them during the <Mexico Tournament>.

HE'S A WRECKING CREW! HE'S NUMBER ONE!!

HE'S THE GREATEST MAN IN HISTORY!!

Best,
JFQ

Oct-20-08  samikd: <jessie> Is Anand No 1 in live rating now ?
Oct-20-08  Brown: <All I want to do, ever, is just play <<<chess> Wasn't Reshevsky known to have said that? Thought I read it in OMGP.
Oct-20-08  Eyal: <Is Anand No 1 in live rating now?> Of course he is - a whole point ahead of Topalov... (http://chess.liverating.org/) I guess Topalov shouldn't be concerned anymore about this match being between #5 and #6.

jessicafischerqueen: Hello <Brown>, and thanks for dropping by.

I never heard that, no. I haven't read <kasparov's> "My Not Quite as Great as me Predecessors" either, so I'm in no position to evaluate your point.

BTW, I enjoy your "color."

Oct-20-08  Ziggurat: <jess> Why don't you try playing some Korean chess (basically the same as xiangqi, or Chinese chess, just some minor rule differences)? I had fun playing it with North Koreans (!) in Beijing.

  jessicafischerqueen: <My Dear Edifice>

Good idea! But no... I have enough trouble making even tiny little bits of headway in improving on "real chess," as we Finns like to call it.

They do have two cable shows in Seoul devoted to CHANGI analysis though.

It looks fascinating..

But I can't take even one second away from the "real game". I have too much invested in it.

Did the North Koreans tell you about their country?

DID THEY TRY TO GO HOME WITH YOU IN YOUR SUITCASE???

Mrs. Knows absolutely nothing about North Korea, and I live in Korea.

Oct-21-08  Woody Wood Pusher: looks like somebody started the party booze early in here! Anand is 2 up, but now the championship is his to lose so lets try and keep ourselves under control until it becomes a mathematical certainty !

oh and, GO ANAND! World Chess Champion!

Seriously, when he wins this, even Gandi will become a distant memory!

Oct-21-08  achieve: <Jess> - <Your guy against my guy> heh

I'm lagging at least a day behind, hrrrggghh

Everything OK?

Busy here, and quite exhausted, but thanks to <super Howard> I could replay Anand's second win on my old wooden board here. Copy the score and print et voila!

Nothing beats that. (the Ole Wooden Board -- the thing inspires me to THINK - whereas my GUI + engine tend to block certain thought processes- and willingness to "dig in deep" -- which is of course not "its" fault...

Oct-21-08  Woody Wood Pusher: <elephant> I find the same thing..when I am following the WCC games I make the moves on the board and study the position, and then post any ideas.

The computer screen numbs my mind for some reason.

Oct-21-08  achieve: <Woody> Yep - that's it. It either numbs my mind, or i let it.

Also commentary LIVE tends to distract me, instead of spur me on.... Too much data for the brain perhaps.

I need full focus. Also with the fast time controls with most tourneys now.
