Oct-29-08  Open Defence: thanks for the wishes!!!! so Anand came through and quite well at that... the 2 point margin actually looks impressive

Yes but don't tell Aruna.

Oct-29-08  Open Defence: Pity Kramnik lost, I am still a fan of his play, but I am happy Anand won, but most of all I think we saw great chess, I dont think the score line reflects the struggle, both players were obviously under tremendous pressure
Oct-29-08  Boomie: <Open Defence: Pity Kramnik lost>

The match could raise Krammy's level of play, which is a frightening thought. We may see him more aggressive with black in the future. If there was a lesson here for him, it was to play more like Tal and trust in his ability to navigate murky waters.

This is a very good point <Boomie>. The Kramnik of the 90's was a much more aggressive and instinctive player than the one who was just thrashed by Anand.

Even in 2000 Kramnik largely beat Kasparov through superior tactical means.

I don't understand why he thinks he has to play so passively and defensively, it seems to be psychologically related to winning the title and going 'defensive'.

Anand showed this approach is not enough to beat a top in-form player. Kramnik's only victory came when Anand self-destructed for a game. But Anand directed all the play in his victories.

Kramnik's style in this match reminded me of a Petrosian but without the sense of avoiding danger he had (repeating meran!) and this combination was bound to fail!

I hope he goes back to his roots and comes back stronger and more willing to fight!

I'm just reading through the <Match commentary> and related materials- Thursday-Friday I have to teach 300 hours of lessons, so I will be back tonight to address all of the pressing concerns posted here by my friends and mortal enemies.

YOU CAN'T HURRY <LIVIV>!! YOU'LL JUST HAVE TO WAIT@!!!

Stupid Phil Collins. I can't believe he was such a great drummer for the greatest band of all time before Peter Gabriel and then Steve Hackett left.

Mrs. Peter Gabriel

Oct-30-08  Boomie: <Woody Wood Pusher: < Boomie: <Open Defence: Pity Kramnik lost>>

Petrosian seems a better fit than Tal. Although known for tenacious defense, the Tiger was a first rate tactician. Botvinnik said "When Petrosian offers a sacrifice it's time to resign." Kramnik needs to adopt the Tiger's patented exchange sac attitude.

Something like that! hahaha good one.

But you can't hurry Lvov. Just to wash the Phil Collins version out of your ears, here's the original girl band version. We used to dance the Frug to this...or was it the Mashed Potatoes? In England they danced the Mashed Potahtoes...bloody poms.
