| Oct-31-08 | | Woody Wood Pusher: <JFQ> not just animal noises though, IMO a disproportionate number of players resemble woodland animals. For example, Ivanchuck looks almost exactly like a human squirrel http://www.chesscenter.com/twic/eve... and Kasimdzhanov looks like a wise old chimpanzee http://www.chessbase.com/news/2005/... |

| Oct-31-08 | | Woody Wood Pusher: Anybody following the Cap d'Agde here?
Karpov was eliminated by Naka in the semi-finals (on blitz tie breaks) and Carlsen was eliminated by Chucky. So it's Chucky Vs. Naka tomorrow!
Chucky seems to be a nemisis for Carlsen, Bilbao, Tal-M and now this. |

 | | Domdaniel: Evening, ma'am. May the <Porterfield Rynd Fan Club> -- members so far, Niels and me -- meet here from time to time? Frogspawn doesn't want to risk being inundated. Pooftahs. |

| Nov-01-08 | | Woody Wood Pusher: Nakamura wins Cap d'Agde! Beats Chucky in rapids by outplaying him in the endgame! Wow! How many wunderkinde can the chess-world take!? |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Chess is a war game.
DID YOU HEAR ME?
War.
That's why <Hideous Nagasaki> is so good at it. I'm not surprised he won the <Cap D'Antibes Hotel> tournament. I only hope he had time to down a few absinthes with "Hem" , Scott Fitzgerald, and Valentino. |
|
| Nov-01-08 | | Boomie: <jess is a war game> Chess! Good god, ya'll
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing!
Say it again! |
|
| Nov-02-08 | | Woody Wood Pusher: War! War!
What is it good for?
Ab-so-lute-ly nothing!
except as the inspiration for chess of course.

| Nov-04-08 | | Ziggurat: Timman opens a big can of you-know-what: (Dutch-English Google translation) <The current generation of leading an anonymous existence, finds Timman. 'It's nice that Jan Werle the tournament in Liverpool has won.But otherwise I see no great performance from the Dutch. They do not speak to the imagination. Smeets and Stellwagen are intelligent, nice guys. But they do not have the look of a Hein Donner.> <And Loek of Wély is understandably bad, you can not expect much from him. I find it remarkable that he is making such poor results. At his age I was at the top.> Ouch! |
|
| Nov-04-08 | | Eyal: http://translate.google.com/transla... <Timman, in a cafe in his hometown of Arnhem: "Ponomariov was still a great talent. But Khalifman became world champion in a knock-out tournament, where the luck factor played a major role. He is now even outside the tophonderd cases. Khazimdzjanov also won the world title after knock-out matches. In ancient Rome they are called soldiers emperors."> |
