Merry Christmas!!

I just found your posts on the <Topalov-Ivanchuk> game from <Pearl Springs> and I was inspired to write a partial analysis of it in my profile...

Holy Cow <Topalov> is back!!!!!>

Indeed, Topalov is back!

And Merry Christmas to you, too.

Dec-20-08  Boomie: In those third world countries like Korea which are squab deprived, one can make do with a Rock Cornish Game Hen. If you tie a ribbon on the wings, turn your head sideways and squint, it almost looks like a squab.
Dec-20-08  malthrope: The game is in its last throws... The final buzzer will ring any second now. Looking down the court, dribbling all the way and fending off attackers, she positions herself just outside the 3-point perimeter (her team is down by 2) and shoots.

The crowd anxiously awaits as the ball is up in the air and here it comes the trajectory looks to be right on track... Gasping cries are now heard running rampant through the crowd (both <acirce> & <percyblakeney> seem to be beaming from 'ear-to-ear' with devilish grins)...

Belated Congratulations on conquering yet another successful milestone in the annals for chessgames.com

I suppose 500 pages record is the next in line now.

Did you mean "last throws?"

That's it -- that's the first line! ~ROFL~

Glad the basketball story brought a hearty grin Jess! :)

Dec-21-08  achieve: OK - <SwitchingForumshere>

<Jess> I found this priceless link with all 'Courage of Lassie' albums listed/reviewed etc...

http://www.beggars.com/banquet/inde...

Following The Temptation to exist - the albums <Sing Or Die> and the latest <This Side of Heaven> (1994) were made.

I am most impressed by the the accompanying text from that article, which was published originally in 'HearSay' magazine, if I understand correctly.

Here a couple excerpts:

<From the evidence of music, novelists, poets and film-makers, there is something uniquely beautiful about modern Canadian culture. There seems to be two sides to this - first, only in Canadian culture do you find that totally unique combination of French, British and American influences, creating a strangely colourful, romantic atmosphere; second, Canadians seem unafraid of expressing and exploring their own natural identity in ways other nationalities seem unhappy to do. Much of the music discussed herein seems to exude real nature, you can almost hear the waterfalls, tall trees, mountains. Canadian culture has something uniquely vibrant about it, a wonderful cross between the best of Europe and America and a refreshing outlook upon the natural world. This is your invitation to join us on our musical travels...>

And on their album This Side Of Heaven:

<When you hear the band's music , it's easy to appreciate how they can inspire such love and enthusiasm. 'This Side of Heaven' is a collection of songs, including a cover or two, road-tested by the band since 1992 and stylistically the sound and atmosphere is pure Canada - a blend of French, English and American folk laced with violins and accordians, that echoes the styles of Leonard Cohen, Robbie Robertson and Joni Mitchell, whilst remaining something truly individual in its own right. What comes through most strongly is the band's absolute love of music.>

I'm going to get my hans on those albums. Here in Amsterdam we have the largest Public Library incl. CD DVDs, in Europe - so I will find them, or else order them from the production label directly.

  jessicafischerqueen: <Canelephant>

heh good digging!! I only heard the one record "Temptation to Exist", but it was sure beautiful.

Well done on finding more info!!

There's actually a lot of Canadian Indie music on <youtube>-- I was a little surprised <Courage of Lassie> wasn't there.

I expect it will be sooner or later.

Although I have this sneaking suspicion that all the "free" video servers will eventually get shut down.

And not because of copyright issues-- But rather because of the fact that they pay the bills only through online advertising.

And who came up with the brilliant idea that people who are too cheap to rent movies or even buy a TV--- that is, all the people who actually USE the free video servers-- would be a good advertising market?

HAHAHAAHAHA

Those cheapos (including me) wouldn't buy ANYTHING

heh

I'm not surprised your <method> is spreading.... I used it today in fact to play out the end of <Svidler v Topalov> at the point of resignation-- I was able to carry the win against <Shrubby>.

These GMs certainly know what they are doing-- they don't resign for "nothing"...

(Maybe that guy should cut down on the <crows>?)

HAHAHAAHAAH

Dec-21-08  achieve: <Jessica Timmanski> I even found this MySpace link with four audiotracks! -- http://profile.myspace.com/index.cf...

<Although I have this sneaking suspicion that all the "free" video servers will eventually get shut down.> Key word: eventually

They will not catch onto your logic very soon... The Financial Market Meltdown is a good example of how long people can fool themselves...

It's a crazy world.

Brilliant digging... I"m listening right now.

Amazing how much better the <Myspace> sound quality is than on <Youtube>...

Like 100 times better....

Plus Myspace has a video host function as well.

So why doesn't everyone post on Myspace instead of Youtube?

????

Heh I just checked and my favourite YOUTUBE videos ARE IN FACT ON MYSPACE

heh

I'm enjoying all 26 minutes in a row of <Genesis- "Supper's Ready"> on Myspace WITHOUT the annoying 10 minute breaks, and WITH amazingly better sound!!!!

HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAH

ha ad a ff f fwe

Dec-21-08  achieve: heh Jess, Enjoy!!

It was a discovery for me as well so have to check it out further...

I also put a link to Spinoza's work in Boomie's place. Fascinating read...

Fascinating read, esp since I already encountered a treatise with exactly the elements in it on which I was in deep thought, earlier this morning...

More on that later (prolly via emu - I freakin didn't believe it when I read it...)

Dec-21-08  Woody Wood Pusher: Hey <JFQ>

Thanks for pointing out that great Topalov game!

37.g4!!

WOW!

I'm going to go and have a look at the rest of the game now.

I really like the way Topalov is playing great fighting chess, but the higher his rating goes the more obnoxious he seems to become...

Oh well, guess he is only following in GK's footsteps really.

jessicafischerqueen: No <Wood> obnoxious is what it takes.

That's how to win in chess- you have to hate the opponent.

<Fischer> understood this.

So did <Kasparov>--

They are the two greatest players of all time- the greatest fighting spirit.

Chess is Total War.

Read <Fred Waitzkin's> very fine <Mortal Games>, about the 1990 <Kasparov-Karpov> match, for confirmation.

<Waitzkin> spent many hours in <Kasparov's> hotel room on the New York leg... and <Kasparov> was candid, and very detailed, about how much he <really hated Karpov>....

He hated him with great passion. He also Respected him-- had great respect for him even-- but this respect did not diminish his animal hatred for the man one iota.

Let's just say they don't get together for a glass of vodka these days to "reminisce"...

I was just thinking about this earlier today-- about how I can't play friends any more.

On <Yahoo>, I want to destroy the other person. Humiliate him. Burn him to the ground.

I need this feeling to play my best.

It was <Eyal> and <Noteyetagm> who pointed out this fine <Toppy> game to me.....

Well I"m back on the <Top Wagon> now as well.

HAHAHAAH
