| Dec-22-08 | | hms123: <woody> < OD> Here's what Fritz has to say. Interestingly, if you discard all the moves that are merely shuffling around (all the king moves and the rook moves back along the file) then <Rxf3> looks like the way to make progress. I am letting Fritz run more out of curiousity. After <43 Qd1>

Are you sure your boss doesn't have a C.G. account <OD>!? Could make things interesting...
Lots of respect for your games and moves, especially if you come up with these brilliances away from the board as well! Ever thought of writing a chess book? Could be a money-maker! Can I log a pre-order now!?

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Eyal, Woody, Dom> thanks for voting for me in the unlikely category of <games collections>! Although I certainly don't deserve said votes.
Last year I was hoping for "funniest kibbutzer", but <Technical Draw> may be invulnerable as the incumbent in that category. He told me I don't win that category because of too many "double entendres"... ???
I have no idea what he's <silk stocking> about.... |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <chancho>
You know I'd still see it if I were you. <Cruise> is such an "easy target" the last few years, and you know how everyone likes to pile on top of a big star once he seems to be falling. <Cruise Missile> has been very good in other historical movies such as <Last Samurai>.... |
|
| Dec-22-08 | | achieve: <Jess> You indeed also did remarkable work with your game collections, but check out the little post I placed plus response I got... Seems like <KingG>'s collections weren't really noticed "publically" prior to me nominating him... Amazing - the blogosphere is tjok-full of hidden treasures... Remember we talked about playing on in losing, yet still complex enough, positions? From his (KingG) profile:
<The hardest game to win is a won game.> - Emanuel Lasker And we all know what <Alekhine> said about how many times an opponent had to beat him before the game was actually won. <Last Samurai> I saw a fascinating documentary last week on the traditional (authentic> manufacturing of a Samurai Sword... It takes the proverbial lifetime to master that art! <Spinoza> Yes, avoid googling too much because of the danger of running into a semi-interpretation of his work; although reading up on social background and historical context is a must, I feel. Like going out to watch a movie in a theatre WITHOUT having read any reviews or seen any trailers... |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <El Pentium>
heh- well done on the <KG collection> alert. He has some good movies in the Profile as well. I just voted for you as <most helpful Elephant> in the Best Screenplay category- I'm hoping there is a "snowball effect"... |
|
| Dec-23-08 | | Eyal: <thanks for voting for me in the unlikely category of <games collections>! Although I certainly don't deserve said votes.> Jess, <KingG>'s game collections are certainly very impressive in terms of scope and he's a worthy winner of the award, but I just want to emphasize that my vote was definitely more than a mere "friendship vote". I genuinely like your collection, because it's more creative and instructive than the great majority done around here - not just a collection of data, but also highlighting an interesting point in the English opening which isn't exactly "common knowledge", so it may help to create chess knowledge. (Btw, speaking of the collection itself - do you think the drawn games included there demonstrate your point as well as the ones won by White?) |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Open Red>
No.
However, <How many Squab heads can you bite off in one minute> is one of the more difficult <Festivus Feats of Strength>.. I just voted you to be <funniest Kibbutzer>. I almost had to pull off my own fingers to stop from voting for myself though. HAHAHAAHAHAAH
wheeze
Actually I guess that's not that funny.

Dec-23-08
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Squaba> Thanks so much for your elaboration on voting for my <Game Bird Collection>!! Yes, I <did> in fact create it out of an interest in the <English> spawned by how often I was facing <3...Bc5?> in my <Yahoo games>. My record is all wins no draws no losses against this questionable move, but I'm not playing any GMs on Yahoo, to say the least. So, cognizant of that fact, I was very curious to know what the "Masters" had to say about it. I regarded the move to be weak because I thought Black's DSB is more useful on <g7>, <e7>, or perhaps best on the "Nimzo" square of <b4>... I suffered four losses out of the 10 games I've lost on Yahoo in the English to the DSB on <b4>... Anyhoo, I was pleased to see that <3...Bc5> is in fact played very rarely at top level-- And yes, I think the draws are still useful and to the point in that, arguably, in those games White is better, IMO, at the point of the Opening to Middlegame transition. All that said-- I would say that <closeness in ratings range> is by FAR the most salient determinant of the result of ANY chessgame... It's very tough to beat someone even 50 points higher, in my experience. |

| Dec-23-08 | | Open Defence: <LEGEND OF THE SASQUAB> Part Deux one reason why Squabs are served at Festivus is that they rarely dissapoint |
|
Dec-23-08
 | | jessicafischerqueen: heh....
Yes, a piping hot Squab has saved many a Holiday table wracked by family squabbling... Also, You'll be pleased to know that in <British Columbia>, the Indians DO in fact believe in the fabled <SASQUAB>, a seven foot high gigantic hairy pigeon who's as likely to bite off your face as he is to say "howdy do"... |
|
| Dec-23-08 | | achieve: <Jess>: --<I'm hoping there is a "snowball effect"...> Unlikely, my dear... These chessplayers are not that easily suaded by the bright and shiny <white crystalline bowl> you are expertly using there in your meta-squab-phork, and let me assure you that the squabinations and 'votes' have elevated my spirit upto a point that could be considered ... How was I doing? dang - that one final word...
Squabitatious??
Thank You.
heh
Excellent points by <Eyal>. BUT WE WANT TO WIN!!! |

Dec-23-08
 | | jessicafischerqueen: Yes-- chess is about winning.
All about winning.
And whining. Don't forget the inevitable whining...
Luckily, everyone gets excited when it's <Caissar Season> specially when "our people" have garnered many of the prizes... Also, of course, the <Festivus Feats of Strength> must also be faced... |
|
| Dec-23-08 | | achieve: I forgot who I nominated for funniest... I thought Woody Woody... And I voted for you last year, no?
For that <Carjacking> post with the TIER II tourney, "if he in fact IS playing ..." etc... You were goood, very, very good.
Better head back to Mannbee to endorse our <hms123> for best construction ... |

| Dec-23-08 | | achieve: Couldn't resist, for old time sake... I reckon <Woody> doesn't know this one, which is paced to perfection. Excerpt: <Lev>, star of last year's <Chess Olympiad> and a legitmate and logical contender to become next World Champion.
I think there's little doubt he has the talent to achieve this-- perhaps it's a question of nerves, luck, and how well the other Super GMs play. jessicafischerqueen chessforum |

Dec-23-08
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <El Piano of the Search Kibbutz> heh....
<Aronian> never gets that part... I think he lacks the <iron will> necessary-- I predict <Anand> will become the next World Champion, silencing those critics who say he's "too nice" to have the killer spirit needed for the throne.. You know the <prodigies> I feel a bit bad for-- <Reshevsky> and <Ivanchuk>. Maybe the most talented and thrilling chess prodigies in their respective generations- But never quite made it to the Top.
This has to have irked <Reshevsky> most of all due to the unfinished Match with <Fischer>, in which the new Boy Wonder was not winning when the Match was chunked. And now the post "drug fiasco" <Ivanchuk> meltdown, after his amazing tournament comeback this year... Chess can be very cruel, as <Eyal> said to me once. |
