 | | Domdaniel: <Henge> I like your plan to *irritate* the Sahara desert. Very ambitious, of course, and out of my league. Though I managed to annoy a piece of coastline once by calling it <a son of a beach>. Now let us Gobi thankful that Jess is on the mend ... |

 | | Stonehenge: <Dom> Ah, I have been playing cards with Christina Applegate's mother-in-law whole evening (not kidding). And now I come back at 2.30 AM, not quite pissed (sorry <Mack>), and I discover that the Queen is alive and bloody well kicking! Far out man! <Queen> I have a welcoming back present for you. I will behead anyone you like (or dislike rather), exclusively for you :) |

| Jan-12-09 | | brankat: <jessica> After a brief Ice Age in the Lower Mainland and the Valley, we are now experiencing a Great Flood all over again. Doesn't it just make You feel home-sick? :-) It shouldn't. You've been sick for long enough. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <My Dear Bishop>
Good to see you more regularly. Unfortunately, the Korean spider is not dangerous. They eat mosquitos and pigeons and such, helping to control the real pests. Also, while I appreciate the fine song, I do not formally recognize the existence of any <superhero> except <MannBee>, because every Hollywood film is about a crappy Superhero or a talking cartoon dog. I hope a giant hedgehog appears at the <Golden Globe> awards and eats everyone with too much makeup on. That would be all of them, of course.

| Jan-12-09 | | zanshin: <JFQ> Do you know what has happened to your beloved Doggimus? After his self-imposed exile from <CG>, I sent <twinlark> email several months ago and did not get a reply. Have you been in touch with him? |

 | | Domdaniel: Happy Birthday, too, your majesticity.
I'd send you a present ... but you already have an <interesting past> and a <glowing future> ... so who needs a <present>? As you can probably tell, I've had some practice with excuses. |

| Jan-12-09 | | Woody Wood Pusher: Hey <JFQ> Happy Birthday! I just heard a recording of Allen Ginsberg reading his poem 'Howl'...it has really shaken me up. I'm somewhere between running and weeping right now. |

 | | Domdaniel: <Woody> Less with the <starving hysterical naked> and the <angry fix>, please. There are ladies present. Admittedly, they like Ginsberg, or so I've heard. So, ah, carry on. As you were, atoms. Great piece of writing, is Howl. I wrote a parody version once, called *Whimper* - about the somewhat less extreme dilemmas and privations of the 80s/90s generation, compared to what Ginsberg, Kerouac & Burroughs went through. Appropriately, I lost my version. It had a line about having to take a cab across the block to buy Belgian chocolate. Which is really very like dragging yourself through those dawn streets looking for an angry fix. I guess. |
|
| Jan-12-09 | | Woody Wood Pusher: <Dom> Yes it is a great poem! I'm a complete beginner when it comes to modern poetry and this was the first Ginsberg poem I have come across. I got a CD with various poets reading their works for Christmas, but this one is nothing like the others on there! Not having the words in front of me, it was a real journey, and quite a dark and shocking experience! Other poems on the CD include Robert Frost 'The Road Not Taken' (I really love his poems) and Ted Hughes 'Thrushes', so I was kind of lulled into a false sense of security about what to expect. And then WHAM!
Before I had rediscovered my bearings I was half way into a bad LSD trip! I'm going to read up on this poem so I can understand it more, but the way Ginsberg uses the one breath lines in it is so new to me, I'm still a little overwhelmed! |
|
| Jan-13-09 | | zanshin: <JFQ> Please ignore my last post. <twinlark> replied to my email - and I only sent it last month. I guess it just seemed much longer ;-) And belated birthday greetings. |
