  jessicafischerqueen: <El Pirate Phant>

Well there's not much anyone can do to you. Pretty sure. Why would they want to? Dutch people are nice. Did you know that the people of <Eindhoven> suffered five years of German occupation, and they threw this giant parade for elements of the fine <US 101st Airborne Division> who liberated them-- and then the American soldiers were ordered to occupy the high ground around <Eindhoven> and then the Germans counterattacked in force, the Americans were forced to retreat, the Germans reoccupied the town, and <Eindhoven> got the crap bombed out of it in the ensuing battle.

And the poor people had to wait a few more months.

What a terrible story- I just watched a show about it on free streaming internet.

"Operation Market Garden" it was called-- the plan to sneak through <Holland> to cross the Rhine and end the war by Christmas.

The number of ways to get free entertainment content-- and much of it in perfect <HD BlueShark Ray DIVXNL VLC Go for the Long Bomb> technology.. is staggering.

If you are willing to download you can literally get anything.

As a "streamer," or "uploader," there's some stuff I want to see that I can't find yet. But you never know when it might turn up.

I was a "downloader" and then the Torrents started giving me all kinds of <Malware> and crashing my computer and making it honk.

I think there is a safe way to download now though.

I haven't tried for a few years now.

Mrs. Steals Entertainment Content

Feb-08-09  achieve: I didn't know about <Operation Market Garden>, to be honest...

You know I think you are a definite contender for <Best Informed Kibbutzer> - and I am not kissing butt here.

At first I felt a bit awkward downloading from those P2P things, but the embarrassment seems to fade on me, the last few weeks; I have 33 good films lined up atm...

*ughh*

I only download from safe uploaders, as far as I can judge, of course.

DivXNL even has a site to which you can subscribe and volunteer for screening and translating the films...

They're bona fide in my book.

  jessicafischerqueen: Bloody good show <Niels>.

We'll have you on the INTERPOL top ten list in no time!!

Chicks love the "bad guys".

Well I'm informed by TV and Movies mainly, so you have to re-check everything I say to be safe.

The show I saw was HBO <Band of Brothers>, which Wiki informs me may be the most realistic World War II movie ever made.

11 hours long in 11 parts.

The writers based all of the details and most of the actual events on veterans of the 101st Airborne who fought from Normandy to Germany.

At the start of each episode, a few veterans tell a few short anecdotes.

The battle sequences are absolutely terrifying--

I'm half way through the series. I recommend it very highly.

Feb-08-09  Woody Wood Pusher: <JFQ> Just reading about the ups and downs of your game has left me dazed and confused, what a fight!

<I WON BACK MY PAWN WITHOUT EVEN REALIZING IT FOR AT LEAST 15 MOVES>

haha, that really is intensity on another level entirely I bet that guy thought you had sacrificed the pawn deliberately after you got the initiative and took it back.

Sorry to hear you were the last one to blunder, but at least you can learn something from the game now it's over. Every player learns more from their defeats than their victories, so next time that guy won't be so lucky!

<<Wood> have you ever had any problems with the Java crashing on <Yahoo chess> ?

Do you know any workarounds? >

Yes I have big problems with my set up because it is so unusual, which is why I only play rapid games ATM because I know my browser will crash every couple of hours at least.

One thing I have found which increases its stability though is by blocking all the adverts on yahoo before you start the game.

Most of the time loading up an advert which my browser can't display properly is what causes it to crash, but they still might give your browser some trouble even if you are fully up to date with the plug-ins.

First step is to load up yahoo as normal and then when you see an advert, move your cursor over it and find out its address. Make a note of all the source addresses for all the adverts you see.

Then go to the preferences in your browser and put all of these addresses on the block list.

Next reload yahoo and start your game and you will have no adverts loading, and increases stability.

I have also noticed that keeping the screen at normal size and not maximizing it also increases stability on my system.

Also, not chatting before or during the game also increases stability on my system, because when a few dozen lines of chat have been recorded my browser just crashes.

These problems are also related to a critical shortage of RAM on my set up as well though (256 MB hard RAM but running a virtual HD and OS off it...)

These tips will definitely significantly decreases the demand on your browser while you play though, and might make the difference. This system enabled me from being stuck with 5 min games to daring to risk 45 minute games, so I can vouch for its value!

Good luck for your next game <JFQ>!

Black to play and win, find the shortest mate

Feb-08-09  madlydeeply: You know Jess...if there was ever a story that would seduce a male chessplayer...it would be the one you just told!! What a dream girl!!

By the way...there might be a relationship between 7 pots of coffee and throwing things around the room...i'm just sayin'...

Or are those Korean "pots"...

By the way, I just worked three days with my friends stepfather, "Mr. Kim," a 61 year old Korean Jack Lalane! I swear he worked so hard! Smashing things with sledgehammers...drilling holes in concrete...throwing lumber out of the truck...chainsmoking the whole time. Apparently, according to Mr Kim, "everybody in Korea" works that hard. Is that true?

There is this big filth covered outline on my bed of my body...because when I got home I just collapsed and fell asleep....

Peace out YoYo

Feb-08-09  Pyke: Re: <Band of Brothers>

Yes, some of the best I've ever seen so far!

<I'm half way through the series. I recommend it very highly>

Half way through? Hmm, then there's some of the most intense stuff still to come! "Enjoy", though enjoy is not the right word ... no, not at all.

Feb-08-09  Woody Wood Pusher: <pyke>! Hey buddy nice to see you! Come over mine and enjoy a cold one with me, I'm watching in awe as the big guns <OD> and <mal> get some serious chess analysis done!

Feb-08-09  Open Defence: <Jess> did you try the puzzle ?
Feb-08-09
Premium Chessgames Member
  jessicafischerqueen: Puzzle

Not so easy for me. 20 minutes to solve

1...Qg5+
2.Kc3 <forced>
2...Qe5+

Now, if

3.Ke2 then...Rd1+!!!

heh

4.Kxd1 <forced>
4...Qe1 <checkmate>

And if

3.Kc4 then ...Re4+

And If the White Queen does suicide

4.Qxe4 or 4.Qd4

It only postpones mate by one move in the first case and two moves in the second case.

jessicafischerqueen: Well it's 5:30 AM here in Korea and apparently someone is strangling a duck right outside my window.

At least- I'm choosing to believe that.

I don't even want to think about "alternate" possibilites.

Feb-08-09  Open Defence: hmm the first part is correct but re-check the line with 3.Kc4
Feb-08-09
Premium Chessgames Member
  jessicafischerqueen: Wait

4.Qd4 is mate next move

and

4.Qxe4 is mate in two moves

I had that reversed in my first solution.

In a real game on <Yahoo> with the clock i wouldn't have found the shortest ways to win here.

I would have won though.

After Black goes Qg5+ White's Queen can be trapped by force by pinning it to the King with the Rook, but the game continues- With White having a totally lost position.

<Deffi> did you find the short wins in your game?

What was the time control?

Feb-08-09
Premium Chessgames Member
  jessicafischerqueen: <Deffi>

HAHAHAHAAHAHAAH

Oh my Gpd I was so proud of myself for "getting" the puzzle as I find them very hard.

I got stuck for a long time before seeing the Rook sac in the first variation--

Then I was so relieved that I just went with the Rook check in the second variation-

Which does win of course exactly as I said

BUT NOT AS QUICK AS

<Ba6+>!!!

HAHAHAHAAH

I was so absorbed in manipulating the three black pieces to force the mate that I FORGOT ALL ABOUT THE BLACK BISHOP!!!

I looked at him at the start to see what he could do.

Not later though.

Doh!!

HAHAHAHAAHAHAH

What a relief...

These puzzles drive me crazy.

So what did you do in the game, and what did he do, and what was the Time control?

Like I said if I had that on <Yahoo> I would have gone <Qg5+> and then pinned the White Queen with my Rook and I would have had to keep thinking to win from there.

Feb-08-09  Travis Bickle: Jess check out my rebuttal on The Fischer page. ; P
Feb-08-09  Open Defence: <1...Qg5+
2.Kc3 <forced>
2...Qe5+

Now, if

3.Ke2 then...Rd1+!!!

heh

4.Kxd1 <forced>
4...Qe1 <checkmate>

> this part is 100% correct

but if 3.Kc4 there is mate in 1!

Feb-08-09  Open Defence: Jinx! ok you owe me a Black Najdorf for getting that right, this was my usual 7 days time control so I could work everything out, but yes, it would not have been easy in an OTB game with the pressure, btw there was a mate in 8 earlier which i found I will post that too :)
Feb-08-09  Woody Wood Pusher: <Travis> Nice rebuttal,<Herr Doctor> has been literally begging for something like that for a week IMO.

Nice one!

jessicafischerqueen: <Wood> why not give your opinion as well? I just did, thanks to <Travis> breaking the ice.

Best to make a strong message in numbers sometimes.

Like the message the men in the American 101st Airborne gave to the Germans at <Bastogne>:

"No further."

Feb-08-09  Woody Wood Pusher: <JFQ> OK you tagged me in, I started with a couple of chops, then hit a double-axe handle and finished up with a chair-shot to the back. I'm the heel the crowd loves to hate!

haha

Feb-08-09  achieve: My first reaction seeing the puzzle was: "Hey, ...Qe3 would be mate, so just kick the queen out with 1...Ba6! - since the White Queen can't capture!"

So my first instinct was ...Ba6, oddly enough, and c4 fails on indeed the crossfire ...Qg5+ and Qc1 mating the next move!

Hah - great puzzle!

Ba6 is a monster!

Great solution by Jess with the rookd1 combo!

  jessicafischerqueen: <Wood>

Thanks for your fiery encouragement of my chess games. It means the world to me.

For me chess is warfare. Like World War II.

You are in my <Band of Brothers>, which is why I don't want to play you on the Internet.

In person, however, with real clocks to slap after we move, it would be a different story..

I'd try to kill you. Gladly.

For reals.

Then we could set up the pieces and try again and again.

OTB is heaven- Internet chess sucks-

And you need HUGE NERVES to play chess anywhere.

You have to really care if you win or lose.

<Bobby Fischer>; "Don't give up in the middle game if you are discouraged about your position or even if you are in real trouble. Later, you may get a burst of inspiration or your opponent may make a mistake."
