Today I just passed my mortal enemy <Percy Blakeney> on the ALL TIME BIGMOUTH LIST!! I'm now number Two BIGGEST LOUDMOUTH at this website!! Only <acirce> has more posts. Of course, his posts are all very intelligent posts about chess. I just did a quick search and discovered that over 1,000 of my posts consisted of this: <Quack>!
heh...

Nothing escapes your prodigious ability to read every single post at this website. I don't know how you do it---
I was just looking at the most recent analysis on our game and I wanted to thank you for the clarity of your recent contributions. I'm a very, very slow "analyst" and it takes me a long time to understand even one post of analysis from you guys. I find your analysis posts very well organized and clear. A. Fan |

| Feb-09-09 | | achieve: <Since he didn't give the rest of the analysis! <Tricky Elephant>... :)> Good Morning from here, <Mal>, <Woody>, <Jess>, <OD>! It was a bit too much to post the engine defense line, as I reasoned it would take away too much from the great analysis and <also beautiful solution Jess found...> Qe4 did look unnatural to me, and the other more human (?) defenses all led to really charming quick mates. And it was late, but I am hungry for breakfast now!

Thanks, <Mal> for buttoning it all up! I also caught on to the ...Qa5 lines last night ;)) |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Travis>
I look forward to reading it.
Chess is darkness, for those of us who dare to play the game against other humans. It's war- and you will live to fight again, like a MAN. Chess is a MAN'S GAME, except for when me and <Deffi> play. Or <Judit Polgar> or <Alexadra Kosteniuk>. Well Ok I suppose it's a HUMAN'S GAME.
For humans who like open intellectual warfare- no prisoners, only one winner. Well except for in draws.
Can you tell I'm an expert?
HA!
That's right.
I said Ha! |

| Feb-09-09 | | achieve: More like pragmatic; I wouldn't have had the energy nor the organizational skill, to type it out like <Mal> did. I know my limitations.
One of which being that I DO NOT know my limitations. (usw.) <Jess> Thanks for the clip at my place!! I decided to let it stand there as the last post untill I had time to respond in style (doh) Thanks.
It's music most of the day for me now; Choir practice Preparation! |

| Feb-09-09 | | achieve: I just read you girls' posts at the Fischer Page - and I actually could not agree more... Very honest and deeply insightful reflections...
Hats off. |

| Feb-09-09 | | Woody Wood Pusher: <Oh Woody it's probably this crazy line...> Oh my <mal>....I didn't mean for you to do a detailed analysis, I was just going to ask <hms> to ask his buddy Fritz later today. You have posted so much great analysis lately, and I am very grateful indeed to get an insight into the thoughts of such a strong player like yourself, but please be careful not to tire yourself out. Maybe I am over-estimating the energy it takes a strong player like you to write such long and detailed posts, but I know I get tired through concentrating for long periods on analysis and I feel guilty over the valuable energy you expended on this problem. I hope you will not think I am being indiscreet, but this is my honest reaction and how I feel. We all love your posts <mal>, but please make sure you look after yourself first! OK, I hope I haven't overstepped the mark, and if I have I apologize. Now I will actually go over your analysis move by move and see what it is to think like Master! Cheers <mal>!

Choir!!
I hope some of the music will be put on the internet so I can listen. <posts>
I disagree strongly with your assessment of the insightfulness of our reflections!! I maintain our posts were sheer nonsense.
But I'm no expert...

| Feb-09-09 | | malthrope: <achieve: More like pragmatic; I wouldn't have had the energy nor the organizational skill, to type it out like <Mal> did.> Which reminds me -- let me correct this mistype in one line... ~lol~ <Having looked at everything I could think of but only found a mate in 8 in this line with 5... Qa5+ 6. Kb2 Rxb1+ 7. Rxb1 (7. Kxb1 Qxc3 and mate next) 7... Qxc3+ 8. Ka3 Qa5# Then decided to try something I rarely do -- use an engine! ~lol~> All is good now! <sheepish grin> Thanks Jess and Niels! :^)

| Feb-09-09 | | achieve: <Jess> Of course there are additional points that may add valuable perspectives EG like the perennial dicussion in Music, wether one can be in a position to judge the beauty of work of Bach or Mozart, while one cannot compose oneself... Oscar Peterson once said: "I really never thought about talent or anything-- I just knew I could (learn to) do that." Some of us learn we can not, sigh, but I still can sing along with Oscar's most complex solo's, and judge the ones where I think he is taking the technical way out, and loses the beauty and depth of conception completely. The even musical flaws in my No 1 hero?
Probably a bit of that, yes.
Yet when he was on song, innumerable times too, he played like inspired by God, and he knew it. As soon as the tune ended he did take his bow, but still was in a different emotional state... He found it tough to deal with. Real Life. Yet didn't resort to drug use. I think Blitz games can instill a enhanced belief in one's instincts, first ones, esp. when stringing a number of wins and Ok games together, -- huge confidence builder... Yet a string of losses does the opposite. That's why the best of the best play blitz and like it, like Capa, and why not? In the end we are all part children and just wanna play another game. |

| Feb-09-09 | | malthrope: <WWP: <Oh Woody it's probably this crazy line...> Oh my <mal>....I didn't mean for you to do a detailed analysis, I was just going to ask <hms> to ask his buddy Fritz later today.> Please do! :) I'd be interested to know what a powerful engine has to say about all this? Does Fritz find a mate in 7 from 1. Qe4? ;) <Maybe I am over-estimating the energy it takes a strong player like you to write such long and detailed posts, but I know I get tired through concentrating for long periods on analysis and I feel guilty over the valuable energy you expended on this problem.> Don't worry Woody -- I live for solving esoteric Chess problems! This one totally fascinated me and it was just bum luck that I analyzed the "c6) 4. c3 Re1 (threat 5... Qc1#) <5. Ka3!>" last. Then realized there was a big problem. :( I always appreciate your frank (not the spider!) and honest thoughts always... It's true, I have other important things to do and will soon have to concentrate solely on those task alone. :)) - Mal |

| Feb-09-09 | | achieve: <Bad Argument>
EXAMPLE:
Proposition: I know the distinction between
A. Quality and Beauty in both Music and Chess
B. The increasing and disturbing absence of it
Proof:
A. I have a CD player
B. I have state of the art Chess Engine
HAHAHAAAAAAAA!
I surrender!
But really, any argument should be entered unbiased, with noise reduction turned on to its maximum (optimum) - which is impossible for any human to keep up. Do you know of someone?
That's why I hesitate to engage in "fierce debate", even aside from the fact that I lack academic language skills in English. I've run into too many airheads among countrymen already, failing to admit to their flawed reasoning. Mine isn't of course. I refute myself all the time. A class of its own. heh

| Feb-09-09 | | Travis Bickle: Thanks Jess ; ) |
|
| Feb-09-09 | | Woody Wood Pusher: <elephant> I always prefer to buy the recordings of Live performances over studio recordings. Even though the sound 'quality' is less, the performance is more often than not better IMO because of the 'imperfections' you were talking about earlier giving it a genuine character. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Quack! |
|
| Feb-09-09 | | achieve: <genuine> THAT's a useful word, <Wood>... We all look for it when attending a concert of out favourite artist, I think - yet if you give 200 concerts per year, it's hard to keep up that standard. You still gotta look for the gems, and oftentimes take the Good with the Bad (and the ....) Quite a dilemma for the Live Performing Artist, and a tremendous added emotional burden and hence responsibility, to not let one be exploited by record companies, to name just one aspect. But you're right, though I do have a sparse few, inspired, studio performances from OP. Though they too (yes indeedy) had a selected 5-15 man audience (friends & critics), if I remember sharply. |
|
| Feb-09-09 | | Woody Wood Pusher: <yet if you give 200 concerts per year, it's hard to keep up that standard.> Yea that's true, certainly some concerts are better than others. But that's where the alcohol comes in handy. |
|
| Feb-09-09 | | achieve: One more thing
OP was at his best when his musical confreres were around; people to whom he looked up to and respected. That includes the members of his "then" Trio, for wom he played with the greatest affection, yet they also tried to " play eachother off the Bandstand" as Herb Ellis said. A healthy musical rivalry within the group. Then at some point oscar embarked on a solo, and the two other members of the Trio just held their Bass and guitar in amazement, quietly and with a grin on their face, occasionally bursting in suppressed laughter, when he'd pull out a few amazing impossible runs, concepts and climaxes. Musicians do really feed off eachother tremendously when all are top class and have mutual respect. Atmosphere. That was my sermon for the late Oscar P. for today.
Very dear memories indeed.
Sorry, <Jess>, if I took too much space in your forum this morning, was not my intention and style, but I just went with the flow. Thanks for your hospitality. |

| Feb-09-09 | | achieve: <But that's where the alcohol comes in handy.> Randy Newman once admitted that Heroin and Cortisone did the trick for him, but I disgress. For me Alcohol is Poison. Now. Probably always was. |
