"FROM" one of his games...

(Doh)

Feb-13-09  achieve: <Jess> This is one of those games I had in mind - W So vs M Bosboom, 2009 - simply moving his Knight away to make room for the Queen to move over to <b3>, exploiting the weak Qside pawnformation (b7) - and the rest is history.

Some great technique there too.

And <Anish Giri> in second place! ( I like the kid - saw an interview with him somewhere, looking really healthy, speaking with clarity and joyful eyes...)

Ok - back tomorrow.

Feb-13-09  crawfb5: Glad you have found some use for the <baseless table> site. As you can imagine, the computational load ramps up rather steeply as you add pieces when building the base, but so does the memory requirement for the solved positions:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tableb...

The commercial program Freezer (linked at the tablebase site) tries to handle more complex endgames by ignoring certain kinds of improbable situations.

Someone in the <Wooden Nickel> game has been working on <Hoffman> http://www.freesoft.org/software/ho..., which attempts to do move pruning and selection in a more sophisticated fashion than Freezer.

Oh, and as a little aside, I played a guy from Bell Labs at a US Open back in the late 1970s. He kindly arranged for me to play a 10-min game against BELLE, which I won, despite being a lowly 1700 player at the time.

Feb-13-09  madlydeeply: Thanks for the information Jess I dutifully forward it to my korean/peurto rican cutiepie realtor friend Lana so she can have a more insight into her mysterious culture.

jessicafischerqueen: Thanks for the tip <Wood>! I just made my homage there.

Nice to have a place to apologize to the people who by all rights should have permanently banned me for multiple posting violations and for wasting so much of their valuable time.

Thank goodness for <hms123: A Civil Communication Engineer>, who has turned me from a shrieking Cockney wench into a lady who can balance a chessboard on her head when she walks.

Ok so very nice <Wood Sandwich> there. What was the occasion?

1. Calm discussion about the questionairre.

2. Woody tears <Kram n' fans> a new one

1. Calm discussion continues...

HAHAHAHAAHAHAAH

Also you never answered <dumgai> about <Anatoli Drawpov>?

Also, how do you feel about <Magnes Drawsen>?

And our world champion <Viswanathan Drawnand>?

I've been cheering for Vishy for years but he pulls more <tournament strategy short draws> out of his hat than <Drawnik> and <Drawko> combined.

You see people are so scared of losing to him that all he has to do is say"

"Ok this game is drawn buddy. You get me? Drawn."

And it's all over.

Be advised: <Linares> will feature 88% short tournament strategy draws and we'll have to read pages of noodleheads whining about it.

  jessicafischerqueen: No, they don't.

They don't have <Ballantine's Scotch> day here at all.

They <do> have "Pepero Day" in November though.

It's a version of <Sadie Hawkins> day.

Are you aware that such "holidays" where the girl asks the boy, as opposed to the usual way, stem back to 10,000 year old harvest/and-or planting rituals? In the Northern hemisphere the dates for these quaint, but very old, customs fall on the Fall and Spring equinoxes, or therabouts.

Here's another good one, in which the most nubile girl in the village would choose the fittest male to be "King for a Day" and then after the <racing action> he would be sacrificed to the Harvest Goddess and his blood sown into the soil.

"April Fool's Day" has its genesis in this ancient, and rather humorous (from the ladies' point of view), practice.

Good times.

On <Pepero Day> the girls buy "Pepero brand choco-sticks" and give them to their favorite boys.

If the boy is "tagged" with a "Pepero stick" he has to eat it and then do what the girl says. In ancient Korea they used symbolic sticks, but not the kind made out of chocolate.

Can you guess what the symbolism suggests?

Mainly, I saw a bunch of kids shrieking, running, and gobbling chocolate.

Makes you wonder if they have any sock-puppets of their own...

<That's the <Wood Sandwich> (copyright all rights reserved).>

HAHA

Well I was going to ease off on him, but once you told me about your <Leko is a draw mongering weasel> line, I just couldn't resist it! (especially since I noticed <acirce> in there too, and thought he would appreciate the fond memories) Plus there are another couple of people joining in the fun as well now, Kramnik's page is beginning to look like more of a joke than his Black win percentage!

<Also you never answered <dumgai> about <Anatoli Drawpov>>

Nah I don't go to the Drawnik page for a discussion of any kind, just to troll it. Players who love to draw like him and cheat the fans should have a dedicated troll for their pages, it's the least we can do to repay them.

<I've been cheering for Vishy for years but he pulls more <tournament strategy short draws> out of his hat than <Drawnik> and <Drawko> combined.>

Maybe, but I can understand adopting a strategy to win a tournament that involves strategic draws. That's clever. But handicapping your own Black openings to <only> draw? What's up with that?

Feb-14-09
Premium Chessgames Member
jessicafischerqueen: I agree the strategy stinks. But <Leko> is even worse IMO.

<Leko> strategy- Draw with both colors to save up his energy for...

??????

WHAT A SCHMUCK he's just chicken to lose ratings points. What a waste of chess talent.

It's depressing that as fans we can say this but either of them could beat the entire website here blindfold simultaneous 900 times in a row.

Ok- what about <Radjabov> deliberately using the <Scotch> to draw so he can win with <Black>?

Same thing? Worse? Better?

I didn't even realize this until <Eyal> pointed it out.
