  Stonehenge: <Biggles>

Bovril:
How was it?

Squadron Leader:
Top hole. Bally Jerry pranged his kite right in the how's your father. Hairy blighter, dicky-birdied, feathered back on his Sammy, took a waspy, flipped over on his Betty Harper's and caught his can in the Bertie.

Feb-26-09  Eyal: THE ADVENTURES OF BIGGLES. PART ONE - BIGGLES DICTATES A LETTER.

Biggles: Miss Bladder, take a letter. Dear King Haakon...

Secretary: Of Norway, is that?

Biggles: Just put down what I say.

Secretary: Do I put that down?

Biggles: Of course you don't put that down.

Secretary: Well what about THAT?

Biggles: Look. <she types> Don't put that down. Just put down - wait a moment. <puts on antlers> Now, when I've got these antlers on - when I've got these antlers on I am dictating and when I take them off <takes them off> I am not dictating.

Secretary: <types> I-am-not-dic-ta-ting.

Biggles: What? <she types; puts the antlers on> Read that back.

Secretary: Dear King Haakon, I am not dictating. What?

Stonehenge: <hms> That's more like it :) Btw, Rockpalast on WDR still exists but it's always so late at night :(
Feb-26-09  Woody Wood Pusher: <JFQ> The dog was called Foxl, when Hitler's company was redeployed the dog went missing and apparently that upset him a lot. Enough to kill 60 million people maybe.

What about this little dog, I never heard of that story.

I thought Blondie was the favourite, even had a cyanide pill in the end so she wouldn't be captured and forced to be Stalin's wife.

Feb-26-09  Woody Wood Pusher: Man walks into a bar.

'Ouch!'

Feb-26-09  Woody Wood Pusher: Yes I am SPAMMING your forum <JFQ>!!

SPAM SPAM

I'm not entirely sure why, probably because I haven't done so in a while.

Plus I saw you and Nosher buying matching pyjamas earlier.

jessicafischerqueen: <Wood> the "Blondie" misconception is one of the biggest in world history.

Hitler's fave was actually little <Burli>, a lap dog terrier.

If you ever feel like torturing yourself, watch all 7 hours of <Hitler: Eine Film Aus Deutschland>.

I'm sure info on it is availale on GOBBLE.

Good work on the WWI Dog!!

Hitler loved dogs. Too bad about the poeple.

Feb-27-09  crawfb5: Q+R vs Q+R with many pawns is no day at the beach either. Here's an ending I recently punted at QA as White by pushing too hard for the win.

click for larger view

I was on the move and played 1. c6 with the idea of trying to shelter the King at b6 (the Rook can swing over to b7). But after 1...Ra8 I quickly got into trouble with Black being able to bring the Rook down the file. Even so, if I can trade off the Rooks, I win. If I can trade off the Queens, I win. Even if I can trade off the Queen and Rook for Queen, I win. If I play like an idiot, I lose.

I like dogs better than people. What's your point? :-)

Feb-27-09  crawfb5: Just a quick heads up. CG has opened registration for the new team FischerRandom game. No engines allowed.

Feb-27-09  Woody Wood Pusher: Very true <Travis>, I used to drink a lot of wine whilst painting. Then I found out Nosher is a wino too, so now I only drink spirits. And I burned my pyjamas.
Feb-27-09  achieve: <Jess> I think you were right on the money with your assessent of <Manic Monday>.

But Prince is truly a magician.

EG - over the years of making all kinds of innovative music - he always stayed- indeed - that Beatle-ish composer of popular tunes, with which he can and could do anything.

EG let's take <Starfish And Coffee> from the Sign o the Times album.

<Raspberry Beret>

<Little Red Corvette>

<Forever In My Life>

<Morning Papers> (Diamonds and Pearls)

and on and on, the list is endless.

Prince wrote so prolifically for himself as well as musical friends, that it is almost laughable.

He infuses ANY genre if he wants, when he wants, at any time.

Diversity and musicality personified.

I do - however - like how you make a distinction between his funky- and folky-pop songs he wrote for others.

He had it all at his fingertips.

It may take a looooong time til we can welcome another musician of his standard and class.

I think he was best when cooping with Bonnie Boyer, Cat, The Doc at the keyboard, Maceo Parker on sax... A better POP band was not possible.

Makes U2 look like a bunch of lameys. (well - in a sense)

There's no substitute for genius, but genius.

I put up Glam Slam at the Center and within the first 60 secs you know you are in touch with genius.

Feb-27-09  Woody Wood Pusher: There is a FR game starting up <JFQ>. I took a look, but it scorched my retinas just looking at the start position.

  jessicafischerqueen: <Wood>

Thank you for calling it <Fischer Random> instead of that godawful "960" nonsense.

Could there possibly be a NERDIER MORE STUPID NAME for a game than "960"?

OOOH let's play "960"~~!!!

If someone said that to me I would simply slap them in the face.

That said, I have to confess that Bobby's idea never appealed to me.

I love the history/tradition of the opening systems.

Also- Bobby was a tactical genius- I'm not.

But I can remember things pretty well.

So I'd actually play at a lower strength in <FischerRandom>.

Funny thing is that Bobby also loved the tradition/erudition aspect of chess, in his youth.

I sometimes wonder if his idea for <FischerRandom> was some kind of deflection for him-- because he was afraid to face the mighty <Anatoly Karpov>...

Oh what chess lost because of Bobby's nutty collapse after 1972.

Chess lost itself, for a time...

<Karpov> was there to pick up the pieces though.

LITERALLY!!

hahahahaahaha

Feb-28-09  Woody Wood Pusher: hey <JFQ>!

Yea as far as I'm concerned it is Fischer Random, like it or not he invented it.

I think the people involved want to disassociate the variant with him though, and regardless of all the badmouthing he did in his later years, that is just a stupid blunder.

Mainly because, as you rightly point out, <chess 960> just sounds about as appealing as a $2 aftershave.

jessicafischerqueen: Yes <Wood> it's scientifically proven that only NERDS say the words "chess 960".

Recent experiments from Harvard also indicate that these people are also more likely than the general population to eat NERD cereal brands such as <Captain Crunch>.

Oh~ I'm eating some <Captain Crunch> and then I'm going to a <Chess 960> tournament~ Oh look at me~~~!!

NERDS give chess a bad name.

Chess is a MANLY sport that women can enjoy too, but only if they like to obliterate all opposition and sow salt in the ground so nothing ever grows there again.

  jessicafischerqueen: BTW what's up with <Magnus Drawsen>?

Will he wake up and win the tourney?

He'll have to win a few games probably.
