Mar-07-09  waustad: <JFQ>If you happen to know Bob Perchin say hi from somebody in Athens, Ohio. The last time I mentioned him to someone who taught English in Korea, I was told that he is a legend there. That's a few years ago, so maybe he's moved on, but he taught there for decades.

jessicafischerqueen: <1.Re6> first and then after <1...Qa3 2.Re7+> Yes that's what I played.

First Re6 then he goes Qa3 then I hung the rook Re7+ Qxe7 and then I still get to pick up his Knight Qxb6.

Mar-07-09  achieve: <Jess> Of course that is what you played! Picking up the Knight on b6 still leaves you with a won game.

The threat of rook c7 upon a B move (to d3 possibly) will leave you immune to the back rank woes and the win is in the bag almost.

Watching <Valkyrie> at the same time here atm, but for a few tricks I think White is still winning.

It isn't automatic, though, and boy do we all know it.

Just continued practise sessions against the silicone scaredevil will get you there.

The guy is damn lucky to escape with a draw, EVEN after you hung a rook.

Now I understand <woody's> reaction. Well a bit. :)

Mar-07-09  hms123: <jess> Was this the position?

If so, Did you bring the Queen back to <f2>?

Instead, there's a nice shot here: <1.Nxf6!>

Now <1...Rc6 2.Nxd5 Rxb6 3.Nxe7>

<Is this the position? If so, Did you bring the Queen back to <f2> ?>

Yes, it is- and yes, I did...

Doh!

Man you are pretty good at making FENS from purely verbal descriptions. Especially since I never told anyone I brought my Queen back to <f2>.

That's a fabulous tactic you found <Howard> and thanks-

Kind of makes me wish I found it during the game....

<The threat of rook c7 upon a B move (to d3 possibly) will leave you immune to the back rank woes and the win is in the bag almost.>

Heh-

Yes, it certainly would, if it were My move in the FEN you posted.

Unfortunately, after I take his Knight it's Black's turn and he immediately pinned my bishop with <Rc8>, as per <Howards'> FEN there.

Mar-07-09  achieve: <Howard> How did you get the Black Rook on c8? I had it on <f8> still.

then it's a different ballgame...

I could be wrong, though.

Back to Valkyria, Cruise misses two fingers, which is pretty bad.

Dutch actress Carice van Houten to the rescue!.

Mar-07-09  achieve: Ah - Ok - AHA - Black plays Rc8 and Nxf6 will overwork the Queeen.

Brilliant!

Case solveeeed.

I applaud Jess' resilience after just hanging the rook.

Really.

Mar-07-09  hms123: <jess> The key to knowing that you played <Qf2> was that you said the knight had to go to <d3> after being kicked. That meant that the Q was at f2 to defend the pinned bishop. <Rc8> enforced the pin. It is like one of <mal's> retrograde puzzles.
Mar-07-09  hms123: <jess> I have been thinking more about how you might have known to play <24.f6> in your Lopez game.

1. I think <24.f6> would not be easy to find, especially when you have an alternative plan in mind with <24.Qxd4 and 25. e6>.

2. After <24.Qxd4 g5?>

click for larger view

the fact that your opponent played a weak move that opened up the <b1-h7> diagonal might have made you sit up and take notice. The possibility of setting up a <B+Q> battery on the diagonal, the fact that your opponent's pieces are mostly stuck on the Q-side, and the fact that almost all of your pieces are on the K-side (or can get there quickly via a rook lift) all combine to make it almost certain that a mate is possible. On top of all that, the <BK> is stuck in the corner with no way out.

3. Given all that, I think you should have played <25.f6> and worked out the details later. I know that you are trying to avoid "coffeehouse" tactics and highly aggressive (possibly unsound) moves, but I don't think <25.f6> fell in that category even not knowing what <Shrubber> later revealed. I am very confident that you would have figured out the mate or won a <lot> of material.

You are clearly playing very well these days. It is fun to see the games. My predicition stands: You are on the verge of a <big> move up. Thanks--hms

jessicafischerqueen: <Howard>- thanks so much for your encouragement and concrete help. It's almost as if you were a <professional educator...>

I played out the <f6+> line both after <...g5?> and on the previous move as well- against my <Shredder> and it was not at all difficult to crush Black.

It's a lot faster and easier once you see how it works.

How would you rate the film? I enjoyed it a fair bit- I think that as a <WWII> film it's definitely on the plus side.

Mar-07-09  Travis Bickle: Hi Jess could you send me a link of labates site?
Thanks Travis ; )
Mar-08-09  crawfb5: My game with the connected passers on the 7th ended. I eked out the win. :-)

I promoted both pawns to eliminate a couple of defenders, then sacrificed a Rook to drive him into a mating net.

GAME OVER :-)

I'm doing some notes on a game that's finishing up. You might find it of interest. It will probably take about another half dozen or so moves, so it's going to depend on how fast my opponent plays. Unlike the one from QueenAlice where I caught the guy out in the opening and ground him down, this one's a K+P ending.

(modeled on Homer Simpson buying the cursed monkey's paw)

It's a Ruy. THAT'S GOOD.

It's an exchange Ruy. THAT'S BAD.

It's Fischer's 0-0 line. THAT'S GOOD.

Black played an outdated line. THAT'S BAD.

It's a K+P ending. THAT'S GOOD.

I provided notes. BLANK STARE.

That's bad.

It's late. Time to creep off to bed with sleepy little dogs. :-)

  jessicafischerqueen: <Travis> sure no problem.

I have to catch up with email as well because I'm hopelessly behind in replies, including to <Mr. Labate>.

Mar-08-09  Travis Bickle: Trice cursed chancho, whiskeyrebel, me, and others on another website. I hate that fat bas$#%@!! He thinks I am Ed Labate LMAO!!!!!   jessicafischerqueen: <Travis> yes, I'm up to speed now.

<Ed Trice> has lost all his influence at this website--

Me and my buddy got stern warnings from <CG.com> a few years ago- we weren't even allowd to type the words <Ed Trice>.

Now, it seems that <Ed> himself is actually banned from the Fischer page?

And his <Wikpidia article> on Gothic Chess used to be 200 pages long with 3000 pictures of his goofy looking 8 foot tall wife.

Now the article has been almost entirely deleted.

Also, he lost a big court decision to <Mr. Labate>--

The actual Document of the Court decision is posted on <Mr. Labate's> website.

I'm not going to be able to organize my email bidness till tomorrow- when I'm at work.

heh...

I think the forces for good have already triumphed, it seems.

I wish the <Fischer page> went back to talking about <Bobby's games> and his chess career.

Mar-08-09  Travis Bickle: Jess The Fischer page like the man was, is unique! It has multi faceted functions of chess history, game analysis, truely heated arguments, plus quite bizarre postings leading to great theater and comedy. I think Bobby would appreciate it. Once I wrote Fischer on his website a few years back, and asked him to come on this site and straighten out these fools speculating on his Match demands vs. Karpov. Bobby posted a few of my letters on his site but never replied. P.S. I had a chess friend from another chess site now defunct (WCN), anyway this person had a friend from Iceland named Einar. This guy was a pretty good chess player but a total moron as a person LOL. Anyway this guy Einar actually met Bobby Fischer in Iceland at least twice!! Once my friend told me that she had told Einar that my chess handle on Playchess.com was 'The Fischer King' and Bobby was surprised and said "really"? Fischer was pleased and smiled. I guess he thought Americans forgot about him. No way!

jessicafischerqueen: Heh- I guess you are right <Travis>.

Plus, I have to confess that the "entertainment" value of reading the last 10 pages was quite high.

I think that's right- Bobby loved things stirred up with people yelling at each other.

Well, mainly him yelling at other people.
