jessicafischerqueen: Ok if you don't know, this is clearly the <Nerdiest> and possibly the <worst> Chess TV channel ever.

And yet, I love it.

It's on Youtube, there are almost 50 episodes done- and they are all 28 minutes long, with continuous play on one video, which is unusual for <youtube>.

The host of this particular episode is <quite clearly> the Biggest Nerd who ever lived.

Just watch five minutes if you can- You'll see I'm right about this.

UNBELIEVABLE.

Holy Cow if you can stand watching him embarrassing himself in such a flagrant fashion, you may slip into the <seductive chess nerd vibe> that helps show you that <you> have more in common with this guy than you do with- well, just about anyone else, sadly.

Or happily.

This show is aimed at an audience of the <demented beginner>, IMO.

Oh well I really like it- I bet five burritos none of you can make it through all 28 minutes of this video, however.

Do you accept this challenge?

(Hint- you will regret it)

HAHAHAHAAH It's 10 minutes in and he's trying to get someone to call in and make a move- the idea is that the members of this New York chess club play the "audience" on the phone.

Nobody has called yet though, and he's rambling about nothing.

HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAH

This channel is on <New York City Public Cable Access TV>.

Who doesn't love <Public Access Cable>?

This is better than "Wayne's World."

HAHAHAHA he finally got a call from a guy named "Hippo" and there's not one move played yet...

Good grief what am I doing with my life.

Enjoy, if you dare:

  jessicafischerqueen: <Deffi>

Thank you for your kind inquiries about my good friend <N'Swaba: K'ung Bushman of the Kalahari>.

You'll notice I've renamed my forum in his honor!

To answer your two questions:

1. No. The indigenous martial art of the <K'ung> is dodging coke bottles that fall out of airplanes.

2. Yes, but only when they get the chance. There are actually very few Chinese resaurants in the <Kalahari Desert>.

Mar-08-09  madlydeeply: Excuse me but there is not a patch of hectare on the planet without a chinese restaurant.

the chinese are fearless colonizers bringing egg foo young to every corner of the globe.

Have you ever had egg foo young? its an adventure. A humongous inch think omelette dronwed in tasteless brown sauce.

But the WORST adventure is the Malaysian Fish Flake soup. Don't try it. It is like fish food but 100 times as pungent.

Unless you are trying to force your body to expel toxins or making an art film.

Mar-09-09  Trigonometrist: <madlydeeply>

Try the Malaysian Fish "Lake" soup...You must have pronounced it differently to the waitress...:)

Mar-09-09  madlydeeply: Fish "LAKE" Soup? Does this mean you've tried it?

It was more horrifying then watching open heart surgery. more grimacing than the cheapest tequila straight. And yet I kept trying to prove to myself that I could handle it and repeated my folly over and over...and each bit was just as terrible. I guess I just couldn't believe something edible could be so foul.

It was full of fish flakes.

Seriously...did you eat that stuff Trig? I commend you. You must have had your olfactory nerves burned away in some kind of tragic accident...

chancho: <Jess> In that youtube link Fischer is talking about having been in solitary confinement for five days at least twice. And that the light in his room was so bright that even when covering himself with a blanket he felt the heat searing him and was convinced that someone kept in that condition for a long period of time would die from that exposure. The person who interviewed him asked him if he played chess with the guards, and Fischer ignored him. In the second interview he said if released he would spend his time working on Fischerrandom, and again, nothing about Chess. But according to the fake book, Fischer was analyzing while locked up and a game called Fischer vs The Rats 2004 came as a result. What a load of @#$%.

Mar-10-09  hms123: <jess> Here’s a quick run-out on your LCP game starting with this position:

click for larger view

I tried to take a thematic approach by trading pieces and pushing the <h-pawn>, so these moves are not necessarily those with the highest evaluations, but are those that fit in with my theme.

Jess - LCP
1.Bf6 Re1+ 2.Kd2 Qf8 3.Qxf8+ Kxf8 4.Kxe1 Bxc2 5.Kd2 Bf5

click for larger view

6.Rxf5 gxf5 7.Nd5 Rc8 8.Rg5 Ke8 9.Rxf5 Kd7 10.Rh5 Ke6

Now for a bit of prophylaxis (Kc3 and a4)
11.Kc3 a6 12.Bh4 Na7 13.a4 h6 14.Nf4+ Kd7 15.Rxh6 Re8

16.Rh7 Re4 17.Nd3 Kc6 18.b3 Nc8 19.Bg3 Nd6 20.Ne5+ Kb6

Now a pawn is won and a piece is exchanged.
21.Nxf7 Re7 22.Bxd6 cxd6

click for larger view

Here comes the push of the <h-pawn>.

23.h4 Kc5 24.Ng5 Re1 25.Rxb7 Rc1+ 26.Kd3 Rd1+ 27.Ke2 Rh1 28.Nf3 Ra1 29.h5 Rh1 30.Rh7 Kb4 31.Nd2 Kc3 32.h6 Kd4 33.Rh8 Rh4 34.h7 Rh6 35.a5 Re6+ 36.Kd1 Rh6 37.Nf3+ Kd3

Here’s an interesting position. Black is threatening mate, but so is White after <38.Re8>. If <38...Rxh7 39.Re3#>.

38.Re8 Kc3 39.h8Q+ Rxh8 40.Rxh8

Mar-10-09  Woody Wood Pusher: I guess LCP will be licking its wounds after that!

hehe

On a side note, does anybody think LCP has an opening book? I don't think it does.

I don't understand why they even keep it around, the JESTER program is a lot stronger IMO.

Mar-10-09  hms123: <jess> dangerous anteaters--aha! By George, I think I've got it. Back soon with more by emu.
Mar-10-09  Woody Wood Pusher: I interrogated LCP in this position today.

I water-boarded it with the a-pawn.

drip drip drip

and it broke.

I have my doubts about the value of playing against this program to be honest <JFQ>.

But it is good for a laugh.

jessicafischerqueen: <But it is good for a laugh.>

Actually my "chess career" is more <good for a laugh>, considering I've only beaten <LCP> twice out of 900000 attempts.

Some of us find it psychologically difficult to beat even the weakest Java based <5 ply> program.

Mar-10-09  Travis Bickle: Hi Jess here's a clip I found of Alexander Alekhine being interviewed, maybe you could pass it on to Mrs. Alekhine if you you see here. Travis

Mar-10-09  Woody Wood Pusher: <Some of us find it psychologically difficult to beat even the weakest Java based <5 ply> program.>

Yeah I wouldn't worry about that too much <JFQ>.

LCP and programs like that are so unbalanced I'm not surprised you don't like them. I sure wouldn't if I was still a developing player.

What's the point of an opponent that can punish even the slightest tactical mistake in the middlegame, and that then goes on to play the endgame like somebody that just learned how the pieces move?

No point as far as I can see. That's why I doubt it is very good time spent for somebody like you who is mainly playing humans.

Are you getting excited about the Amber tourney?

Hopefully Vishy will be back to his tournament dominating best.

Mar-10-09  Woody Wood Pusher: If you want to see something that is really <good for a laugh>, take a look at the latest game <OD> loaded up.

Some 1600 player (I think that was seriously inflated as well) gets his ass handed to him.

haha

No. I'm not a fan of <GM Rapid or Blitz> chess.

I know that all of them could whup me with 1 minute on their clock and a week on mine-

But it's still not MANLY enough for me.

I like GM games with LONG MANLY time controls.

And preferably QUADRUPLE ROUND ROBINS and TWENTY FOUR GAME MATCHES where <Anatoli Karpov> loses 70 pounds and almost dies while playing.

And then signs up for more the next year. And more. And more.

Finishing with a virtually <EVEN> record against <Kasparov>, but never, tragically, climbing that last <centimetre> of the mountain to beat him in a match.

I need the MAJESTY of such <chess seriousness>.

To me- Rapid/Blitz chess is for fun.

Like going to the water park or something.

But Classical Chess and long matches is like going to Guadalcanal.

I prefer war movies myself.
