  jessicafischerqueen: <Travis> not so.

In <No Limit Strip Holdem>, going "all in" means you take off all your clothes and actually climb into the pot.

If the player calls you, he/she has to strip and then climb into the pot with you.

Then, the winner of the pot is decided by hand to hand combat.

Mar-26-09  Boomie: <JessieMessyGirl>

A new show is on display at the Galleria Boomius.

Mar-26-09  Boomie: <No Limit Strip Holdem>

Really, people. Pull your minds out of the gutter. Strip Holdem is merely the style they play on The Strip in Vegas as opposed to the stodgier downtown variety. Sheesh.

<Eddy>'s recommendatios and such I posted over at How's - go over and have a look!

The Chess Messenger

(I'm over sixty pages into the Chess Artist now; brilliant read. Btw I am busier than ever this past week, hah!)

HAHAHAHA

I'm never going to risk playing that then. The thought of crossing swords with another naked guy in a pot is truly terrifying!

  jessicafischerqueen: <Niels>

Thanks for the detailed <Eddy Report>!

I was able to read the links and judge that the <Sillman Book> is best for me.

I'm going in to town to order it tomorrow along with <Fischer vs. the Russians>.

They are both available on <amazon>.

heh

Mar-27-09  Woody Wood Pusher: I read those links that <achieve> kindly provided as well <JFQ>.

They all look like good books to me.

Funny thing is the endgame 'specialist' <Sillyman> does not count Karpov in the top 5 endgame players of all time.

You can imagine what I think of that.

Other than that though, his writing style seems very engaging and informative indeed.

Plus I can't remember seeing another endgame book divided into sections based on rating.

I'm kind of curious how that works in fact.

Let me know how you get on!

Mar-27-09  Eyal: Here's another informative review of Silman's book: http://www.chessville.com/reviews/S...

Btw, I doubt if Niels would approve of the following...

<Silman mentions in the introduction that he doesn't bother teaching the infamous king, knight and bishop vs. king ending — he says that he has only had it once in his entire career, while his two friends IMs Watson and Donaldson have never had it! Thus he feels your endgame study time can be better spent elsewhere.>

Mar-27-09  achieve: <Eyal> heh - No, I would certainly not approve...

<Capa>:

<It will be seen that the ending is rather laborious. There are two outstanding features: the close following by the King, and the controlling of the squares of the opposite colour of the Bishop by the combined action of the Knight and King. The student will do well to
exercise himself methodically in this ending, as it
gives a very good idea of the actual power of the
pieces, and it requires foresight in order to accomplish the mate within the fifty moves which are granted by the rules.>

Quite <silly man pajamas> to argue the old master on this one... Everyone makes mistakes.

<Jess> Good choice nonetheless I believe, despite eyal's voodoo search powers.

Silman also co-wrote the Benko epic work. Gotta take the good with the bad anyway...

Happy Hunting For Good Books WEEKEND!!

Mar-27-09  Woody Wood Pusher: I just did a quick endgame search on C.G. and there are 78 games with K vs. K+N+B.

10 % are actually draws!

I would laugh, but I doubt I would do any better if someone sprang one on me right now with the clock ticking.

haha

HAHAHAHAHAHAAH

HAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAAH

Well time to change the name of my forum again.

Mar-27-09  Woody Wood Pusher: hey <JFQ>!

Are you gearing up for another chess weekend!?

Not long now eh?

Well, not long for me at least!

  jessicafischerqueen: <Wood>

Well I'm going in to town all day tomorrow, so it would be <silly man pajamas> for me to try to "squeeze in" a chess game.

That'd be a recipe for disaster.

I may play my friend on Sunday if he's around.

Good work on your new blindfold career!

jessicafischerqueen: Ok right now my forum name is

<Silly Man Pajamas>,

But in the past it's been:

<Frogspawn>, <Branko's Chess Palace-the Sequel>, <The Legacy of Squabby Fischer>, <The Anteater of Bobby Fischer>, and <Let's Get Niels to Do It>.

Any suggestions for further names are welcome.

Mar-27-09  Woody Wood Pusher: <I may play my friend on Sunday if he's around.>

Yeah, but if he does another runner then you know he is scared!

haha

<Good work on your new blindfold career!>

Thanks <JFQ>, you really think I could make a career out of beating up an electronic board from 1991 though?

Maybe if I added a danger element, how about playing with Tigers around and some raw meat in my shoes?

That should spice things up!

haha

Mar-27-09  Eyal: <I just did a quick endgame search on C.G. and there are 78 games with K vs. K+N+B.

Yeah, and I see that Niels has posted explanations of the correct technique in several of them... In E Inarkiev vs F Peralta, 2007 from the recent World Cup, even a <GM> has made a laughing stock of himself when he flagged while pondering how to win it. In current tournament time controls, if such endgames are reached it's usually when one is tired and playing on increments - which makes it especially important to have basic endgame techniques down pat.

Mar-27-09  Eyal: <Jess> I believe the name was also <N'Swaba: K'ung Bushman> for a short while...

Glad to see you're in a good mood again - does your PC at least work without major problems at the moment?

Mar-27-09  Woody Wood Pusher: I seem to remember it was called <Caro Kann Forever> at one point too.
Mar-27-09  achieve: <Silly Man Pajamas>

An appropriate quote I feel, and one that may ring a bell (<Jess, howard>) or two:

"Play was fiction, I came to learn. Play was <alternate space>."

"Puppies and children know intuitively that play <matters>, and to mature is to simply confuse play with non-play, to assign seriousness to that which is still whimsical."

-------

Re the B+N mate:

Even though there is a case, as <Eyal> explained, to get it down <pat>, the practice of this mate mainly serves acquisition of technique, re piece coordination and harmonization, and indeed does not belong strictly in an <endgame tutorial>; It is much more important than that.

Getting it down <pat> in an OTB game is just a <bonus>, whereas the practice of the technique serves many purposes outside the realm of "endgames", and translates to openings--> middle games--> endgames.

As <hms123> said recently: "It makes you look at the board differently."

Mar-27-09  Thorski: Bach of the day: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qB76...

To be administered aurally, after your daily fruit and vitamins.

This is the first part of his Partita #2 in C-minor. If I ever code an online game, it shall be dubbed Counterpoint JS (and I think that's the nerdiest pun I've ever made.)

Mar-27-09  WBP: <Jess> Last night I shot a bigfoot in my <silly man pajamas>.

Funny how suave he looked in them.

Cruising the cosmos.

Best, Bill

P.S. 2,666!!!

Mar-28-09  Ragh: Hi Bill, Its that Quarterly visit time again, eh, to drop by and say Hellos :)
Mar-28-09  Ragh: <Jess> Here's a cool (and a G-R-E-A-T) website to practice <tactics> and also endgames.
