 | | jessicafischerqueen: Thanks for all the help you guys.
Since I actually have two good laptops at the moment, I'm going to hold my new one in reserve. I will use it only to read about <Vista> and to keep it updated- That way I'll have a new, clean computer to take back to Vancouver with me. I will then be armed with <Vista knowledge> and I will enlist the aid of <redoubtable nerds> at <nerd stores> to help me load it up and customize it properly. Thank goodness for nerds!!
Also, I will try to find someone to clean my old PC. |

You can find over a dozen of his chess videos here, and for free!! Thanks to <Blacksburger> who found this most excellent chess video site. http://www.chessvideos.tv/training-... |

Of course it's on a "secret" key, same as the double apostrophe I just typed. Now my fingers will have to learn TWO DIFFERENT typing memories!!! I suspect one of my keys can make the little color brackets too.... I wonder if they can fix this for me.
they SPECIFICALLY make this brand of keyboard for English only users. I want my money's worth and I'll get it I betcha. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Well my friend from school came over today to play chess. Unfortunately he is not able to offer serious opposition. But it was fun nonetheless- I offered to help him get better and we will likely play on a regular basis. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Yes, the new teacher guy.
He did- but he's not.
He was the chess champion in his University Dorm in Manchester. But he cannot offer serious opposition, which is a disappointment- However, he's very pleasant company and I'll play him whenever he feels like it. Meanwhile, back to <Yahoo> for my games next week. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Coach>!
Thanks so much for those excellent <forced decoy> moves-- The second one was tough to spot IMO.
I loaded it into my <Shredder> and played out several variations- It's funny, after the move the computer shows white only having a small edge- less than 2 pawns- And yet Black loses by force from here in all variations. I did trial and error for the last 30 minutes and White is in total control. White has the luxury of forcing Black into <zugzwang> in some variations- serious zugzwang in which Black loses by force. Excellent posts!!! |

| Mar-29-09 | | Woody Wood Pusher: Hey <JFQ>!
Sorry he turned out to be a 'weakie'.
I have been disappointed a number of times when sitting down to play supposedly 'strong' opponents from work and so on a number of times, which is why I cautioned about what his definition might mean in your case as well. But if he was <the chess champion in his University Dorm in Manchester> and you can crush him, nice confidence boost for you! Although reading into that statement more, how big was his 'dorm'? Does he mean he could beat his room mate regularly? haha
I'm not trying to belittle the achievements of other universities, but in my experience the caliber of the players generally mirrors the 'ranking' of the university they attend. I can remember my team would be much more relaxed about certain pairings than others. hehe |

heh....
<coach>- I will save these fresh lessons for tomorrow. I'll have plenty of time to dive in to them at work.

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Wood> well his pals at the Dorm would all play and he was 'top stick." But he's never played in a real tournament or a real chess club or anything. None of them were members of the University's actual chess club, for example. So I suppose I should be able to beat pretty much anyone who doesn't play regularly at a chess club, at the least. If that weren't true, I'd feel pretty dumb about having studied chess almost non-stop for the last two and a half years. I really need a chess club again, but that's what the future is for. My Dad's friend <Don> back in Vancouver can give me serious opposition. He's beaten me twice out of maybe 30 games.
But I have to work- and work hard to beat him.
we don't use a clock, and our games normally run 2-3 hours. I think <Don> might be maybe 100 points lower than me.... He's stronger than he thinks he is, in fact.
Anyways he's the toughest OTB human I've played since High school, except at my Chess Club, of course.I will play with him every day in August when I go home for vacation. |

|
| Mar-29-09 | | Woody Wood Pusher: OK so your friend was not actually part of a university chess team. No wonder you ate him alive!
haha
Playing with your pal <Don> sounds like something to look forward to. The last time I could enjoy the luxury of playing a game with no clock and still playing seriously was way back in school. We'd play the game out in stages most lunch times, some games would take over a week. It's nice to have an opponent you can enjoy the game with like that, without getting into arguments about 'time'. Wouldn't work for a serious match though, imagine Karpov-Kasparov I with unlimited time as well! haha |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Zargon
How is it possible for <Linux> to be immune from infection? Also, I just successfully installed the latest <java> so now I can look at chess games on my new computer. <heh> <heh <<<heh>>>> |
|
| Mar-30-09 | | zarg: It isn't <immune>, but on Linux we run Open Source programs, that means everyone can see the rotten code... and react. Some of the worst bashing I've seen on the net, is when Linus see a bad fix posted to the Linux kernel mailing list (LKML)... this place is kindergarten in comparison. :) Besides, script kids use Windows... IE.. OE.. like >90% of the world. The <real hackers> look down to those zombies, and do good things, even if we have the powers to do <a lot more> harm. |

| Mar-30-09 | | Woody Wood Pusher: Hey <JFQ>
I was so impressed by your glowing review of chessvideos.tv I asked a friend to dl a bunch of them for me. He hasn't got back to me yet, but as long as they are not encrypted or something silly like that I should have a DVD with a few on arriving shortly... |

 | | WannaBe: If you already have AVG 8.0 free edition, it is also free to update it, I logged into my PC the other day, and got a notice for free upgrade. You will have to download a short < 1.0 Meg exe file, and it will then (after you double-click it) download the rest of necessary .inf and .dll files, and after a reboot, you should be OK. |
