Apr-13-09  achieve: <Jess> Congrats on your excellent work on the new <Fawn Pawn> GC.

Always impressive to me to see such dedication... And it is a "group-effort" as well.

  jessicafischerqueen: Thanks <El Phanto>!!

Actually there is tons of work still to be done.

Like <notyetagm>, I want to make informative posts on the actual game pages about the <fawn pawn>.

To do this, of course, I'll actually have to understand something about the chess positions....

GHOD

Apr-13-09  achieve: "Let's get < ... > to do that then!"

Nah... You are perfectly capable.

And there's always "the Gang"

There are so many interesting pawn configurations to zoom in on, that have a similar latent energy...

Might be an idea to "expand" on the Fawn Pawn theme at some point in the future.

But get this down <pat> first ;)

Apr-13-09  achieve: Btw - I passed the 9,000 posts mark without realizing it; somewhere around 9010 now, I guess.

Enough for a top 25 ??

Maybe

jessicafischerqueen: Congratulations on <9 million>, <El Phanto of the Opera>!!

The <Big Ten> mark will come soon...

I think you are already in the top 25 no?

I will check the database.

It's kind of a shame that "breaking the forum" record here won't even be recorded on the Stats Page-

And more than a little ironic since IT WAS MY FAULT that Stat got dropped from the page in the first place.

heh

Oh and <Niels> look- <Edward Labate> has linked my Profile to his "friends page" where there are a number of <Fischer and Chess Blogs, and also a guy who Teaches Chess Online>:

"With great power comes great responsibility..."

That pesky <slomarko> has been climbing to 18th spot; I was ahead of him a few months ago.

Btw - I just now posted the line I played out to move #23 - at my place - in the game with <5.d6>, that we analysed.

Check it out if you like. The machine had no clue to proceed for white...

  jessicafischerqueen: <That pesky <slomarko>>

heh...

Ok I will take a look at your new findings.

You know, maybe- maybe the most important lesson I learned from all that analysis I did, and the analysis I got from my friends is this-

My <Shredder> kept SHRIEKING at Black to play <...d5>-

So I assumed it MUST BE "correct," and I was predisposed to finding "human justifications" for the move.

Your hard work has shown that <...d6> is full of its own merit.

It's not an inferior system- It is a different system.

And a vastly different system at that.

Isn't that what's so great about chess?

One square difference on one move can have an IMMENSE "Butterfly Effect."

Apr-13-09  achieve: Yes, it does...

Like in the <scheveningen> - the pawns on d6 & e6 are restricting Whites Knights. Opting for development in a little less space, but with expansion on the Qside as prospect.

Simply put: ...d6 covers c5 and e5 squares, while ...d5 leaves them "holes", "behind" for good. Especially the e5 square is a target, and requires an immediate ...Nd7, in most lines.

But it is like you said, you enter a completely different "tree" - or forest, for that matter.

jessicafischerqueen: Speaking of "forests," did you see the post by <CG.com> on the <Carlsen> thread?

They are putting their foot down.

I hope they follow suit on the <Fischer> page, and keep it up, too.

jessicafischerqueen: <Niels> good point- and yet more evidence that I have been letting my <Shredder> dictate too much of my thinking- particularly about Opening systems.

I've been playing a Black Schveningen pawn set up EXCLUSIVELY on <yahoo> against <1.e4> for over a year now...

So you'd think I might have thought of this when I was analzying my <fawn pawn> game with <Shredder>...

DOH!

Apr-14-09  achieve: <[...] I have been letting my <Shredder> dictate too much of my thinking- particularly about Opening systems.> That was indeed the point I tried to get across, partly subconsciously, with many of my recent posts, including some of the ranting over at <Howard>'s.

I'm still reminding myself to keep questioning the machine, esp. in specific areas.

I simply CAN NOT overstate this point...

I think I spoke of a <"quiet brainwashing process"> at howard's.

That must be avoided at all cost.

Live and learn - to use one of your phrases.

  jessicafischerqueen: <Live and learn>

Yes, I'm proud to say I invented that phrase.

I didn't, but I'm still proud to take all the credit for it.

Apr-14-09  achieve: Well - I know I copy a lot of your phrases, part because I find it fun, but more so because I think our brains are similarly wired in sort of language sub-department, considering we were brought up in two entirely different ones.

But it is the meaning behind it, and the humour, gile, existential questioning and such, that appeals to me.

Apr-14-09  achieve: <They are putting their foot down.

I sent an email last year specifically pressing for DF to keep reinforcing, and making his then claim, true.

My thoughts and emotions on what followed are not "fit for publication" on your public forum, I'm afraid.

Still upsets me when I think back what happened then, and at what cost.
