| May-02-09 | | achieve: Spot on - you are in fine form this evening, Miss Fischer. Interesting: to "observe" the curve, the slope of improvement, - through technical enhancement, discovery, and modern day media influences-, can at an impossible to pinpoint point in time, reach a tilting point, after which there is more loss than gain, at which point the downslope has set in. Within the realm of discourse this is all wildly interesting, and besides the overwhelming majority who doesn't really *get* let alone *care* what is hitting them, there are the "vielfresser and vultures" on the one side, opposing a more and more desperate small group of preservers, on the other side of the spectrum. This is my theory, and I have just now verified it a minute or so ago. But really, this is all very subjectively tainted reasoning, though that very awareness in itself is as much a strong point as it is a vulnerability. Perhaps when the overall balance gets "rocked" (countless little ones adding up across the spectrum, micro- and macro level) and more people become aware of these processes within their surroundings, and themselves, and the potential trouble that lies ahead, is the time when El Chango might get a bit of momentum, and critical mass rolling. To be honest, only the sails of Knowledge, Humility, and Leadership are able to catch the winds of Love, Integrity and Authenticity. I did like the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders in their <Granny dresses>, oddly enough... |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Well you know chess is special- it's lasted virtually unchanged in its present form for about 500 years, and it's this weight of tradition- and chess history- that should make the task of preserving it a bit easier than in other sports. The history of chess theory is a case in point- this is a realm of erudition, not simply caluclation and sport. That is, a chess historian could be interested almost entirely in the progression of chess ideas- for their own sake- not merely as a path to improving individual playing strength. Chess players come and go, rise and fall- patzer and world champion- but the history of the game overshadows the fortunes of we mortals who dare explore its deep, deep, mystery- and beauty. Such is the majesty of the chess tradition- and the reason why variants- especially <Fischer Random>- will never catch on in any significant sense. "Chess is a school of silence"

It's a form of meditative combat- in the tradition of the code of Bushido- the warrior philosopher. |

| May-02-09 | | achieve: <It's a form of meditative combat- in the tradition of the code of Bushido- the warrior philosopher.> Frightening, how that remark has hit me. Ever since I can remember I "dreamt" of becoming a Master of Meditative Combat. Only natural that I love- and care for- chess, and Sport, so deeply. |

| May-02-09 | | vonKrolock: That new collection brings also a new insight on the studies on RJF - Its simple as an egg- as he never played 1951 born Karpov, how he played against players younger than himself? I thought on this already for some years, but while he was still there, I abstained - it could be regarded as a form of... hmm, attempt to hurt him personally regarding that his results against some of the younsters like Gheorghiu or Hort were not necessarilly the avalanche of rubbles one could expect (even if it was really so, nothing would compare to the exposed fracture provoked by his refusal to meet Karpov in 1975 - we really missed very much that encounter...) Well, so it started today and it's already a few games high - some blitz and demo there, of course prefered tournament games - later some researches to stablish some doubts (therefore some games not included) Game Collection: ROOT OF SPAWN or Bobby vs The Youth |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Yes, the Netherlands has been a bastion of enlightenment since the Medieval age, in fact. Chess may make its last stand there.
Yes of course whatever happens is automatically "history"- and again we want to convince others that shorter time controls is a bad thing- a slippery slope to an era where we aren't offered a choice, because the sponsors will only be able to raise money for the short time events. This is the nightmare, of course.
There's time to fight against it and Luckily the consensus at this website- and among "real chessfans" is still to preserve the longer time controls. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <vonKrolock>
Thank you so much for dropping by with your very interesting <Fischer Games Collection>. I shall go through it, and add it to the Fischer collections in my profile. You should also post it on the <Fischer page>- I bet lots of people there would be interested in your idea, and the work you have put into it. |
|
| May-02-09 | | achieve: <Jess> Sorry, but I deleted to avoid risking to restate what you already said, without having added much of substance. |
|
May-02-09
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Niels> well I disagree with the notion of you not having added substance to the discussion in your last post- IMO we are exploring a theme together, and each new post will cover the same topic of course- but there will always be subtle differences and additions in each new post. Unless we just copy and paste everything we've already posted. heh |
|
| May-02-09 | | vonKrolock: Thanks, <jessica> - BTW how that title sounds?! |
|
| May-02-09 | | vonKrolock: I see, already in the RJF page - nice, it will be a not so big but surelly a representative collection |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Niels> why did you close the <Euwe Center>? I hope everything's ok!!
I will EMU for details.
Is it refurbishing? |
|
| May-02-09 | | achieve: <Jess> Yes - everything is OK. Just that when I realised I had spent ober 6 hours online yesterday, I thought I'd pull the plug for a while. But it's OPEN again!
I have still a bunch of things to do as my Mom turns 70 tomorrow and I have to get a tea party organized here. Lotsa work still to get things ready. If you have problems getting a looong game I think it would be fine if we'd play some training games on FICS together. Rated or unrated. I know we both would benefit greatly from the analysis afterwards, as long as it's done efficiently. Just a few games a week/month, depending...
Also experiment a bit with under 60 min TCs.
Just a thought.
Now I'm up very early to prepare my Mom's 70th Birthday though. |
|

 | | jessicafischerqueen: HAPPY MOM'S BIRTHDAY!!!
heh
Enjoy-
Ok training game idea sounds fun- we can also analzye while we play with the "undo move" function. However, we need to figure out how to chat to each other on the game board. I don't know how to do that yet- but it can be done, because one of the guys today talked to me during a game. No problem of any kind getting a long game agaisnt someone good. Details in <H> forum. |
|
| May-02-09 | | achieve: <I don't know how to do that yet- but it can be done, because one of the guys today talked to me during a game.> Exactly. That is one of the (many) things I yet have to get to know about, on FICS. Using Gameknot, for training like you described, is a more than excellent alternative, too. |

| May-02-09 | | Ziggurat: <jess>, <achieve> You just type "say" and then what you want to say. This will send the message to your current opponent. If you want to chat to a non-current opponent (say "achieve", you type "t achieve Hi!". ("t" is short for "tell") What user names are you guys going by? |
|
| May-02-09 | | achieve: <Ziggurat> Thanks! My username I wouldn't mind telling you, but I do not want it to be "public" on a CG forum; but just for friends, no problem. I can email it to Jess, or send a tell or personal message to you at FICS ;) |

If you want to chat to a non-current opponent (say "achieve", you type "t achieve Hi!".
