May-03-09  achieve: <Switch> You're right, <BabasChess> is simply off the chart.

I just installed it. Brilliant.

Thanks again!

  jessicafischerqueen: <Niels>!

I just copied you and tried out the BABA BOARD-

It works fine and it's easy to chat.

BUT HOW DO YOU MAKE THE BOARD BIGGER?

it's a tiny little board in the upper left corner and I want to make it full screen.

Can anyone help me?

Signed,

FICS muppet.

Thanks for the help <Switching Owls>!!

May-03-09  achieve: <Jess> Quick response (super busy) from a fellow FICS Moppet: You gotta minimize all the consoles right- and under the BOARD, and then you will find in one of the drop down menus (2nd or 3rd) an option for FULL SCREEN board, and click that.

Bye for now!

PS - I just saved a high level Blitz game I was observing, and managed to save and transport the PGN. I posted it as a test to my forum.

Well, the toolbars, the move list and the chat/comment/analysis/observers area need their bit too! But some things you can try:

- Stretch the board part (with your mouse).

- Do the opposite to the move-list part.

- Pressing Alt+Enter gets you into (and out of) "full screen mode", though this doesn't gain much extra space. (This is what <achieve> mentioned.)

- Pressing Ctrl+Shift+B gains a lot of extra space by hiding the chat/comment/analysis/observers area. (There's also a button for this in the lowermost toolbar.) You can still chat during games if you want, but without Babaschess doing quite as many of the technical bits.

- Pressing Ctrl+Shift+M hides the move list. However, since the movelist can be shrunk to such a small space it doesn't interfere with the board, this doesn't actually help.

jessicafischerqueen: thanks guys- I accidentally figured it out- and in the process played a bunch of truly awful 10/0 games...

heh

Well that's the end of my 10/0 career.

OK if a guy "adjourns" a game- can he force me to finish it next time we are both on line?

SwitchingQuylthulg: <jessicafischerqueen: OK if a guy "adjourns" a game- can he force me to finish it next time we are both on line?>

Not force, no. However, if it was you who disconnected in the first place - I guess this wasn't the case though - you'd better agree to any attempts to resume when you're both online since you might otherwise be considered a disconnection abuser and receive a warning from FICS or even be placed on the abuser list.

Mind you, it's quite possible he won't even try to resume the game, but will run straight to Adjudication (though that is against FICS rules and recommendations). Read (=type in the main console) "help adjourn" and "help adjudication".

  jessicafischerqueen: Yes, he adjourned it.

So I'm off the hook then?

I don't want to resume a stinking 10/0 Blitz game.

I'm never, ever, ever, playing Blitz again.

Thanks for all of your <Swooping in from nowhere with helpful info>, Mr. Owl.

I just don't know how you do it.

jessicafischerqueen: Heh- if he goes for <adjudication> I don't think I have much hope.

I believe he had several Queens at the point of adjournment.

Who adjourns a Blitz game when they are winning?

??????

Do you think his wife made him or something?

Chess players are crazy if you ask me.

Looks to me like your only stored game is a 60 0.

<So I'm off the hook then?>

Probably, but considering the game's most likely adjudication result is a win for your opponent, if you don't plan to resume you might as well resign without resuming.

May-03-09  blacksburg: i love you too <JFQ>!

i always had issues with <BabasChess>, and i prefer <Winboard> for FICS. but you do have to learn some commands in <Winboard> and there's a lot more typing involved. but i might try <BabasChess> again now that i have a new notebook that doesn't freak out all the time.

60 minutes per game seems like an eternity to me. how are you supposed to win on time after you hang your queen? i would never win a game EVER!!!

anyways, i'm glad to see you have joined <FICS>, and i'm sure you'll have a great time with it, it's a truly great place to play, and there are a lot of interesting characters hanging around. just wait until you meet <cutnpaaste>. :) actually, the only thing i like about <ICC> more than <FICS> is the auto-pairing in the pools. if it wasn't for that, i wouldn't have joined <ICC>. i really wish that <FICS> had auto-pairing.

also, i always hear the Virginia Tech ROTC jogging outside my apartment early in the morning when i'm eating cheetos and playing blitz. makes me feel like such a slacker. :(

Ziggy House of Noodle!

I'm <jessicafischerque> on FICUS

I thought of you today, as I was downtown in <Daegu> and saw this fine sign advertising a <dental clinic>:

"Dream on Dentist"

HAHAHAHAHAHAAH

I love <Konglish>.

You know what's funny- every highway sign and government building sign that's in <Hangeul/English> is always perfectly correct.

But every single private business sign is perfectly incorrect.

  jessicafischerqueen: Ok I'm in.

Hey you know I've never had to wait longer than 30 seconds for a game of 60 minutes or longer so far on FICS eh?

I still don't know the "lay of the land" though.

At least I can see the freaking board now. Stupid <babachess> is amazingly great once you figure out how to make the chess pieces bigger than an ant.

Hi <Jess> - Amazing, eh?

This is part of an interview with <V. Anand>, our current World Chess Champion. That's right!

Thought I'd share this here. The full post with link to the interview, courtesy of <Deffi>, is in my forum.

Worth checking out if you have the time, of course, Mrs. FICS ;)

Btw - I had a busy but great time with the celebrations today.

May-03-09  hoodrobin: <jess> Wow! The good old 1st (for me) avatar ... I loved it and still do ...

May-04-09  Boomie: <JessieRoo>

CG stole my pun for the GOTD. Since you have purchased the rights to "Sviddler on the Roof", perhaps we should consider litigation. This could be our path to Easy Street.

May-04-09  Boomie: I mean next they could steal my song from the play. "If I was a Chess Man. Ya dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dum. All day long I'd Sviddle with my pawns. If I was a Cheesy Chessy Man."
