May-11-09  benjinathan: <Maybe YOU already bought every chess book in Toronto?>

You must have been speaking with my wife.

Did you ever go to the Brunswick House where, in my youth I bought <trays> of beers (I never see beer being sold by the tray anymore) and sang drinking songs?

I'm very happy to see you drop a game in here--

I'm going in now...

May-12-09  notyetagm: You'll like it. Morphy was like god. :-)
May-12-09  hoodrobin: <jess> Sorry for reposting. I believed I forgot to post, that's all. Delete all you want to (of course). Best wishes!

May-12-09  Eyal: Morphy vs Schrufer, 1859

Is this an early version of <Shredder>?

It has some spectacular moments, of course, but I have to say that I don't enjoy as much as I used to those games by Morphy in which his opponents keep insisting on grabbing pawns, opening central files for his pieces and not castling (10...0-0-0), and also on not putting up any real resistance in critical moments (19...Ke8). Still, I suppose one of the main reasons we know today how stupid it is to play in the opening like that is because of such games by Morphy...

I have the <Schrufer Classic 3> Engine

May-12-09  blacksburg: <Still, I suppose one of the main reasons we know today how stupid it is to play in the opening like that is because of such games by Morphy...>

also why Morphy's games are among the most instructive. learning how to punish mistakes tactically is an important skill to learn.

That's for sure.

And as a teacher, I can tell you that <learning how to punish students tactically> is also an important skill to learn.

Here in Korea, they line them up on their knees in the hall, and then wail on the soles of their feet with bamboo sticks.

YOU SHOULD HEAR THEM YOWLING!!

(this is a true story- corporal punishment in the Korean High School is not only legal- it is encouraged)

May-12-09  hms123: <jess> In the first game (Owen's Defense), you played about as well as possible. You might have played <7….Qh5>, but otherwise I don’t see any improvements.

In the second game (French Defense), there were a few alternative moves worth considering.

1...Qe8 2.h5 Ne7 3.Bd3 Nf5 4.g4 Nxd4 5.hxg6 Rxf4 6.gxh7+ Kh8 7.Bxf4 Nxf3 8.Qxf3 Qe7

Instead of <9.Rac1> you might give thought to

<9.Rh5 Bd7 10.Bg5 Rf8 11.Qxf8+ Qxf8+ 12.Bf6+ Qxf6+ 13.exf6>

After <9...Bd7>

Again, instead of <10.Rc7>, you might consider

<10.Rh5 Qf8 11.Bg5 Be7 12.Qxf8+ Rxf8+ 13.Kg3 Bxg5 14.Rxg5 Rd8 15.Rc7

If <10.Rh5 Rf8> then <11.Bg5 Rxf3+ 12.Kxf3 Bc6>

May-12-09  just a kid: <<Just a Kid> Thanks for the elaboration.

I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to see that video you posted here, but like I said it didn't work.

So you play on <gameknot>?

Do you recommend it?

Have you played on FICS?>

Gameknot is pretty good.No I haven't played on FICS.

May-12-09  just a kid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2a5.... Oh wow.Listen to this song.Probably one of the darkest I have ever heard. For some twisted reason I can relate to this song.
May-12-09  just a kid: <JFQ>The bad video link song was Stay Together for the kids by Blink-182.Try to look it up on Youtube.
May-12-09  benjinathan: <just a kid> Hey! Stay away from the dark music. To quote Lisa Simpson (while watching kids listening to Smashing Pumpkins "Zero"):" Making teenagers depressed is like shooting fish in a barrel". There is plenty of time to listen to depressing music when you get old like me.

heh- Don't listen to that Old Guy!!

<Korn> Kiks ass-

The track you gave me reminds me of <9 inch Nails> and <bauhaus>-

I like it a lot too. Ironically, <Korn> was of course also featured on <The Simpsons>.

I hope that one day I can be an Old Gal who is Married and Has Plenty of Time to Enjoy Dark Music.

In the meantime, please consider enjoying this <not dark> greatest love song ever made and share it with your wife maybe-

<Thorski> found this for me, and I listen to it up to 9000 times a day on a loop.

Heh- yes <Magnus Drawsen> pulled that devastating "lateral attack" out of nowhere, it seems-

<Vincent Gallo> seemed to be perfectly fine- right up to the time he was about to lose his Queen by <force majeur> and resigned.

Stunning play by <Magnus Winsen>
