Domdaniel: <just a kid> An interesting game. I hope you gain the 10 rating points you need to get you out of the 1400-1499 boonies.

This is how I would annotate the Berlin:
1.e4? e5?
2.Nf3! Nc6?
3.Bb5? Nf6!

Since the only good moves played by either side are Nf3 and ...Nf6, it makes sense to skip the rest and just begin:

1.Nf3! Nf6!

Then things gradually start to get interesting. The two armies should make contact around move 20, with the first exchange of material by move 30.

In such Reti/English/KIA systems, both sides will inevitably make moves that make an engine shudder with horror. And yet they will be *good* moves...

Jun-22-09  Boomie: Scanning the ChessoBlogosphere, I discovered this nice idea by <kingscrusher>

<I am glad to see some comments on my idea. My favourite chess book in the world - "The World of Chess" by Saidy and Lessing, saids about winning in the introduction to the effect of: Many players win, to create beauty and everlasting truth. If this is the criteria and not just to be a titled player, or a famous player, and this site is about beauty and not just technical engine analysis (see the current crop of voting games), then I think there should be a drive to see chess beauty and encourage members to put their most beautiful games on show.

Maybe there could even be chess beauty prize competitions for games played by members each month from whatever the source - e.g. online blitz, online correspondence, or Over the board tournaments, etc.>

A lot of members like to post their games. A Member Games forum would be a great place for students and teachers.

I was thinking of actually making such a forum and setting it up whilst on my vacation.

Then I had a vision of 9,0000000 members dumping their games in it and 1 member actually looking at any of them.

You may have noticed that many, many, many games get posted at CG.com but almost none are ever actually analzyed or even looked through.

Sad but true...

Trajan's arches are still intact, but I should re-write them. Nobody likes to follow the same (story) arch for too long.

You should also check out Trajan's column (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trajan...), which I write every week, lack of inspiration notwithstanding.

Caesareanly yours,

Jun-23-09  Travis Bickle: <jessicafischerqueen> Most all of that information about The USS Indianapolis is true! I think some details are not exactly right, and from what Ive read there are different accounts of the sharks attacking the men. One medic in the water says he didnt recall any shark attacks but he said when they pulled the men out over 50 men were mutilated by sharks and the medic came to the conclusion that the sharks were content on feeding on the dead in the water. Another eye witness account said he heard men sreaming Sharks! and said they were attacked. Out of 1,196 men who were aboard The Indianapolis there was only 317 some survivors, some went down with the ship when it was sank by the torpedoes, but most of the men went into the water. I'll send you some eyewitness accounts in your email.

jessicafischerqueen: Well that's the second chess invitation I got today!!

Thanks <Trajan>!!

Unfortunately, I must decline- I'm already involved in a temporarily suspended consultation game at the moment-

Also I don't have the time necessary to devote to your exciting project.

I have played in these games before and to do them properly I find you need a lot of spare time over a long period that you have to commit to.

When I played partners with <Eyal> against <Brankat and Deffi> me and <Eyal> worked as much as 4 hours a day each on it-

That was during a time I had no other time obligations and even then it almost killed me.

Best of luck though you guys!!

And say hello to any Dacians you happen to chop in half on the Danube, too.

Jun-23-09  Thrajin: <jessicafischerqueen>, I'm sorry you're unable to join, but I do appreciate your quick response.

Consider this: We don't require our members to play any games if they don't want to. Our team forum functions as an extension of chessgames, and you can drop in anytime you like. So the invitation still stands if you want to join us now or later.

Jun-23-09  wanabe2000: <JFQ> I found this, I think interesting, site that to me proves that Bobby Fischer was the best of all time. If anyone presents a challenge, you will have some data. enjoy http://www.truechess.com/web/champs...

btw: thanks for reviewing my RJF sites.

Jun-24-09  Boomie: <JessieKim>

Your twin sister won a big game against the baduk version of Judit Polgar (Rui Naiwei) in one of Korea's major tournaments. I wrote a little congrats note and she responded:

<^^; I am not that strong. She is by far the better player. Anyway, I should walk upon this endless road and find bright moves. Baduk hurts me, as always, yet I love him dearly =) I don't know why.>

How profound is that? Her English has risen to the point of poetry. The line about finding bright moves is almost identical to Newton's quote about finding a few interesting shells on the beach while before him lay the great ocean of knowledge. I doubt Cho has ever heard that quote.

Her expression of love for the game even though it hurts should resonate with all of us struggling to understand chess.

Anyhoo you should be proud to have such a twin sister.
