| Jul-23-09 | | PinnedPiece: <Up in heaven God was talking to an angel about this beautiful country he was creating. He described this place to the angel. "It will have lakes, tall mountains, as well as big trees covering the land. The air will be crisp and fresh , the water will always be clean, and the people will be the most friendly you will ever meet." "I will call it Canada and the people living inside; Canadians." "But God." the angel questioned, "don't you think you are being too nice to these Canadians?" "Nope!" replied God, "Just wait 'till you see their neighbors!"

Hi from your neighbor.

Very kind= thank you.
You may be pleased to know that the vast majority of Canadians have always considered Americans to be friends. Possibly due to our cultures being identical and all. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Why chess isn't always the best thing to try to understand: <(Part 4 of 4)always think that their pawns are the best pieces next to the queen which they aren't and never bring any of their pieces out and hide like cowards, also I can't bring my pieces out because of the pawns and it makes it so unfun in the end of it all so for the last time please give me something so I can then play positional , attack better against materialists , and play candidate moves.
Sincerely,
Suprme4321 aka Supreme32 >

| Jul-24-09 | | achieve: Hi <Jess> - I ran into this sorry stalemate for white, as I was playing out a won position, just to, umm, relax... White to play (ouch!!)
click for larger viewNever resign when your opponent faces time-trouble; no shame AT ALL, in making him/her play the moves. Contrary to what many say for auspicious reasons. J. Aagaard several times stresses the importance of never to throw in the towel prematurely. Understanding what IS "prematurely" is of course the key. Play on "Until the arbiter ends the game" - is his purposely exaggerated advice. For good reason. IMO. |

 | | Fusilli: <achieve> Your stalemate is with black to play, not white, right? In Louisiana there is a player who is well known for never resigning, no matter how humiliating it is to make the last N moves with a crowd watching over. And, sure enough, sometimes he gets stalemated! On the watching crowd: J.C.Hallman, in "The Chess Artist" (http://www.amazon.com/Chess-Artist-...) writes his amazement at the World Open, when he realized that a crowd gathering around a game do so because it loves blood. Even if the game has long lost any interest (because of overwhelming material advantage), the crowd loves to watch the blood, and the moment when the loser resigns. I prefer to walk away. Resignation should be as private a moment as possible, I feel. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <LMAJ> Yes, I explored may of the excellent annotations you provided for <Tal> games at your website a while ago. I've just taken a quick tour through your web page again, and there is a ton of good stuff!! Thanks for reminding me. |

| Jul-26-09 | | achieve: <Fusilli> Embarrassingly enough, I was white, and to play, and played Kg3 there, which I conveniently forgot to tell... I love those amazing stalemates, and they deserve a place in tournament chess, as well as in puzzle/problem collections. It's actually one of the parts of the game of chess, that still shows how much of a "game" this really is, and should be... By definition a comp will never fall for such a devious "trap". If not for setting traps, and an opponent who falls for it, there would never arise a substantial or winning advantage in a game of chess, and you could just shake hands and agree to a draw at move 1. That's at least my point of view.
I can't even remember how many times I let a 3-5 point advantage slip against my engine... Any opponent has the right to keep questioning me, provided the position offers enough dynamic. And I read The Chess Artist, as per the recommendation of our lovely host here. ;) Fascinating book. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Not so, my Dear Bishop.
Did you know that residents of Washington State refer to us as "Cheeseheads"? I once read this on the wall of a toilet in a bar in <Bellingham, Washington>: "Cheeseheads Go Home"
HAHAHAHAHAHAAH |
|
| Jul-26-09 | | Boomie: <"Cheeseheads Go Home"> That's just our intense hatred of the Green Bay Packers and the horse they rode in on. As usual, Canada ain't got nothin' to do with it. |
