Sep-03-09  achieve: Shredder actually raises its finger at my moves 16, 18, 19, and 21 - though I was very satisfied with my approach, also cutting off counterplay with <21 c3>

And shrubby also stresses that 16. hxg6 would be considerably stronger than what I played with 16.h6

  jessicafischerqueen: Ok <Niels> position after

<14.h4>

click for larger view

As you pointed out, Black wasted tempi with ill-considered Queen moves. He knew the opening well enough, but one second after the main line was set up-- <Dragon, Yugoslav Attack>-- he had no idea how to approach the Middle Game. Not even thematically.

Mainly, he has to speed up a Queenside minority pawn assault- this is necessary, not optional, against the Yugoslav attack.

So here from the FEN he's already losing-

And he moves

<14...Be6??>

click for larger view

This move does nothing for Black- except block his own <e-pawn>- He has to start moving pawns at this point on the Queenside. Or at the very least he just can't leave your Knight sitting there on <d5> like that.

<14...e6> or <14...h5> are called for here- although IMO it's already too late- you have a won game out of the opening- Your knight on <d5> is already a monster and it threatens both tactics on the Kingside and total control/occupation of the <b6 square>.

Now here after

<15...Ne5>

click for larger view

I would have taken <16.hxg6> to bust up the King pawns straight off- you have your pieces all lined up to kill him already. It's time for an open file here I think-

Here, you play

<21.c3>, which I don't even think is necessary--

click for larger view

However, I like this move a fair bit- it's like rubbing his face in the fact that he has ZERO counterplay, and you have time- lots of time even- to render his DSB totally useless with this "in you face" bit of prophylaxis.

heh

And this my other favorite move from your game-- another "in you face" slap-

<28.e5!>

click for larger view

Heh- he could have resigned here- he can't recapture with either pawn without losing his Queen. He's already trussed up like a turkey. It's all falling apart now.

I like this move a lot also-

<30.Bd5!>

click for larger view

Since it blockades his <d-pawn> and permanently stalemates his King. Black is COMPLETELY PARALZYED WITH NO COUNTERPLAY OF ANY KIND WHATSOEVER after this move. White has any number of ways to win here, but I like this methodical crushing. If he had an ego, I think it has to be crushed after this move.

And of course the final move of the game

<32.Qh2> which is Mate in One-

click for larger view

Terrific win <Doctor>-- you CRUSHED HIM LIKE AN INSECT.

And that's the real beauty of chess, in my view.

Bobby's too.

heh

jessicafischerqueen: JINX on the <21 c3>!!

That's one of the luxuries of the Fischeresque "restricting all counterplay" approach- even if it's not the "best move" according to some engine, it's a really, really annoying move to the enemy.

Psychologically, I love this move.

Did <canstein> or <majnu> or <tryfon> participate?

That means you won the tournament, surely?

Sep-03-09

jessicafischerqueen: <Niels> why don't you submit your best game from this event to our database?

<Annie's> game against <Tryfon>, as you know, is from the same website, of course.

I also beat <Tryfon> once at the website, but I don't think he was paying much attention.

After he lost, he made good and bloody sure to obliterate me in our next two encounters.

Sep-03-09  achieve: <Jess> Wow - thanks for your spirited, quality and ruthless bit of analysis!

<Black wasted tempi with ill-considered Queen moves. He knew the opening well enough, but one second after the main line was set up-- <Dragon, Yugoslav Attack>-- he had no idea how to approach the Middle Game. Not even thematically.

Mainly, he has to speed up a Queenside minority pawn assault- this is necessary, not optional, against the Yugoslav attack.> Spot on, and I assumed he was a little over <beginner> level, as most of my opponents were, so I toned down a bit re agressiveness...

It is exactly moves like c3 and Bd5, that I like to play, and have learned to play, the hard way, because of the many training games and playing out resigned positions against my engine...

But you're right - the game was objectively over after 15 moves, agreed.

Still very nice of you to pick out some themes though, and the restricting and then crushing part is what I enjoy also.

No use in denying it!

Sep-03-09  achieve: <Hang on you only lost ONE GAME?

That means you won the tournament, surely?> Yep, basically all beginners, except one guy who was rated over 2100, but with less than 50 games on his telly, so the rating means little...

Played two good games with him though, but nowhere close to sending to <our> database...

heh

The thought!

hehe

But why not!!!

jessicafischerqueen: Congratulations <Dr. Euwe>-- though to be fair (to the fish you reeled in), you are about as much a "beginner" as is <Roger Federer>.

Would you consider posting the encounter with the <2100> fellow?

That's a decent enough rating on <letsplaychess.com>, in my experience enyways.

jessicafischerqueen: <Mal> look forward to reading the first missile-

Finally I have your EMU address.

I was secretly planning to sell it to a <fanatical right wing hard shell evengelical Baptist mailing list>.

Don't worry though- they only send several hundred emails a day to their contacts.

I think that <historical archiving> might prove to be one of the most enduring achievments of <CG.com>.

Especially the tournament games collections project of <The Big Three>.

But we all can do our part.

I still think you should write a whole book though.

Sep-03-09  malthrope: <jessicafischerqueen: <Mal> look forward to reading the first missile-

Great Jess! ;) I've got yours and you've got mine (e-mail wise), thus we are in perfect sync and now ready for stage #2! <grin>

<I was secretly planning to sell it to a <fanatical right wing hard shell evengelical Baptist mailing list>.

Terrific! Can't wait to get their complete mailing list. They will just worship my detailed analysis of Construction task Chess Problems. I'll start them off with a simple one... White plays first move 1. P-K4 and now construct a mating sequence where Black's 5th move is 5... NxR# as it will drive them into unadulterated insanity. Oh wait, nevermind they have already arrived there. ~lol~

<I think that <historical archiving> might prove to be one of the most enduring achievments of <CG.com>.>

It's about time the Big wigs around here finally begin to fully appreciate the "professional kibitzers" that have all assembled at this, their wonderful website. :))

<Especially the tournament games collections project of <The Big Three>.>

Indeed the "Big Three" are heads & shoulders above the rest of pack! :D

<But we all can do our part.>

Yep! The enduring strength of the collective mass is truly a treasure to behold... There's nuthing else quite like it in the known Chess world! ;)

<I still think you should write a whole book though.>

That's one of the points that I'll be addressing when I finally get that post ready for you that was promised in my chessforum. First priority - full updates for my ~September~ Chess events calendar (I'm only 3 days late, atm). ~lol~

My Best Always, - Mal

PS: I'm in the doghouse until priority #1 is a done deal! <sheepish grin exposed again>

Sep-03-09  achieve: <Jess> Slight change of plan... I went over the game I had in mind, but for several reasons, I prefer to present you this endgame gem by young <Robin>... Out of seemingly total equality he creates something worthwhile

Watch out for:

A) Ingenious plan to very creatively reroute the Queen into the enemy camp

B) Incursion of the Knight in a rather similarly describable way

C) K-side Preparation for the final combination

Do I come across as biased??

Perhaps, but kidding aside I was genuinely impressed by both imagination and technique, clever and a surgical cleanliness about it.

Enough babbling from yours truly, here's the PGN, and Robin shares a 100% 3/3 score with 4 players btw...

Sep-03-09  achieve: PS - he also moves his king over to <d7> - which is excellent preparatory "prophylaxation" regarding annoying perp checks by the White Queen via the open c-file.

My engine doesn't have a clue what is going on for quite a while.

He must really have gotten a tremendous psychological boost from a game like this, the little Fide Master of just 15 y/o. To pull this off with a perfect flawless finish.

heh

I will submit the games to CG, no doubt, if they would not process the U16 and U18.

I don't mean to be rude but I never give out my email address if I can help it. My three golden surfing rules are no email, no payments of any kind and no names.

No worries- you can't be too careful on the Internet, I agree.

I had a very bad experience around 5 years ago that actually involved me changing IP providers and getting a new IP address.

If a "cyber harrasser" knows even a little about hacking, they can be a nightmare if they target you.

Speaking of which- a fine first EMU, and I just now read it.

Also, I just flagged you as "safe" and added you to my "addresses of friends" list.

I'm not so worried about cyber harrassment these days since I retained the services of an excellent "rogue lawyer": <hms123>.

He's expensive (he drinks "Screaming Eagle Brand Red Wine- Now in Gallon Format"), but well worth it.

Thanks so much for the fresh <Robin Hood> game!!

It will be my first chess activity of the morning.

Also, thankfully, <Robin> has his own player page, so after the dust settles, we can figure which games were recently uploaded here and then "prompt" the Grand Piano to upload more if necessary.

He's a top-notch man for the job! It's a jungle out there and one cannot be too careful these days... You couldn't have picked better security measure in retaining a "rogue lawyer" like <hms123> - you're is safe hands with him... :)

Hehehe... It's a good thing you didn't pick me as I would have been even more expensive! :P For me it's Johnnie Walker - Black label and Hennessy VSOP all the way. Then of course, there would also be a well stocked side table of exotic liqueurs. It's a damn good thing "ice" is cheap! ~lol~

FYI: From my last post <PS: I'm in the doghouse until priority #1 is a done deal! <sheepish grin exposed again>>
