| Oct-10-09 | | achieve: Yep - though I'm still in the "pre-love" stage with "Matt". May change soon though; he certainly is "a person of interest" ... Hmmm <Val Kilmer> plays the lead role in The Thaw, and ever since his brilliant performances in <Tombstone> (Doc Holliday) and 'Chris' in <Heat>, a few years later, I thought he surely was one of the best, but regrettably played in a lot of "lemons" since then, as well.... (At First Sight springs to mind-- I remember finding the audio dubbing extremely disconcerting, to name one aspect...) <Also, preliminary IMDB info is totally unreliable because members of the film's production team always spam 10 out of 10 reviews for a bit.> Yes-- The Thaw - is probably a bit disappointing (still have to watch the 2nd half), but I will go in for a closer look tonight. The one starring Liam Neeson *does* look to be - though with a "heavy" subject matter - the stand out film of the three... |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: I will await further "reports of interest."
BTW did you notice that <Anatoli Karpov> has opened a new forum, and he's devoting it to "endgame studies of interest" at the moment? I'll be back later at a "moment of interest." |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Matt Pullin> was the second prescription I got on my youtube channel. Or maybe the third-
<The King's Truffle> was the first. |
|
| Oct-10-09 | | achieve: <Jess> Have you seen <The Truffle Queen>'s vid of last night's league game? Quite hilarious, as he cracks up several times, also because he realizes he can't remember what he was thinking during the game, less than "24 hours" prior to shooting the vid... ????
I'll be back after getting me something spicy for dinner tonight-- I feel like eating a good biiig steak with lotsa garlic, to be honest! |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Yes- I love the stories and the background info-
Cherniev nowhere to be found- traffic- late start- Muswell Hill- third board- Plus, <Ruffed Grouse> is in a really good mood these days which is marvellous. What a wonderful chessman he is. |

| Oct-10-09 | | Travis Bickle: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069050/
A psychological thriller! ; P |
|
| Oct-10-09 | | Travis Bickle: If they could only make a great film on this subject, (there is 1 film but it is mostly fictionalized rubbish). In the Chicago suburbs on Willow Springs road right mext to Ressurection Cemetery there has been an urbam legend about her for over 50 years. Her ghost has been spotted walking down Archer Avenue about 10 minutes from my house. Chester's Tavern's owner has been said to leave a shot of whiskey on the bar every night when he locks up and in the morning the shot glass is empty! Happy Halloween Jess HAHAHAHAHAH!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4cd... |

| Oct-10-09 | | Travis Bickle: Read and watch these clips late at night Jess. BOO! http://www.ghostresearch.org/sites/...

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Anatoli>
That puzzle is a constructed fantasy position.
I concede that solving these kind of puzzles is a more than worthy intellectual exercise- I even concede that they teach you valuable chess principles (control of squares especially). However, on aesthetic grounds, I find these fantasy positions offensive on some level. I think they "cheapen chess" into some kind of magician-like parlor trick. I would never look down on anyone for enjoying these, however- or for enjoying chess variants, for that matter. Except for Gothic Chess, because it's "creator" is evil. It's really just a ripped off version of a Capablanca variant anyways. So I'm not going to try this one here. Although I applaud your brain power for solving it!!! In that vein, I thought you were unnecessarily hard on yourself over in your forum for missing a puzzle solution on your first two attempts. A: You are a good puzzle solver
B: The "heavy hitter" solvers at this site are just that- they have a formidable talent/knowledge base for solving puzzles. An "easy puzzle" to them might be a nightmare for such as me. Of the people I know personally, <Big Crawdaddy>, <Switching Owls for Thugs>, and <hms123: A Puzzle Solving Odyssey> are most definitely "heavy hitters." They are the Jose Cansecos of puzzle solving. |

Thanks!!! I'm not even going to open those links until just before bed tonight. With my headphones on loud, no lights...... I can't wait.

| Oct-11-09 | | achieve: <What a wonderful chessman he is.> Well said. Seems like he drinks, eats and sleeps chess, and what also caught my attention is the fact that he says repeatedly to not want to be a slave to rybka, and announces in real time when he "turns her on" so to speak... I believe him, and he appears to have struck the right balance there, and his upbeat character really shines through of late... "Can I have an ounce of that, please?"
Also, he announces his uploads on Twitter... Tryfon seemed to be everywhere at the same time, and even kibitzed here during Pearl Spring. Btw - great posts on the c6/a6 deflection tactic; Almost impossible to calculate in your head the lines where the Rxh7+ are being refuted... That is, I found it very difficult to do. |
|
| Oct-11-09 | | A Karpov Fan: Thanks for the encouragement over my puzzle solving skills <Jess> (I needed all the help I could get after crashing and burning <twice> on <switch>'s 'simple' puzzle -lol-) Full agreement here that the more exotic puzzle positions are an acquired taste. Although I didn't think that one was <so> bizarre. I will look for some more realistic OTB positions for you next time. But as I am working on mate in twos, these might be a touch less challenging then your mate in 7 :-) |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Dr. Euwe> Well as you know I'm in full agreement on "The King's Truffle Finder". He's a class act all the way.
You know one time I was horrified that I had offended him with my typically overly-blunt and rude comments- after all he's done for me personally. Posting one of my games, dedicating Fischer games to me, answering my personal messages... So I felt just awful and messaged him "I hope you can forgive me." So he TEXTED ME FROM HIS MOBILE CELL PHONE "Of course I forgive you". What a mensch.
He actually checked his youtube messages from his cell phone and responded right away. Also- you know that he beat <GM Cherniev> in the great North End Blitz tournament, where he finished second. If he had won his second game against Cherniev- and he had a massive advantage in it- he would have taken clear first. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Doctor> also, I had a very eventful chess Sunday- wild ups and downs- I reported on it in the poor long suffering <Howard's> forum.... I may be trying his patience... |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: I really don't understand people who don't love chess. I hope that doesn't mean I'm going insane. |

| Oct-11-09 | | achieve: <<Doctor> also, I had a very eventful chess Sunday- wild ups and downs- I reported on it in the poor long suffering <Howard's> forum....
I may be trying his patience...> heh - just read it, tactics training is indeed cruel... Remember everyone was shouting "Carlsen missed the simple tactic Rxc6!!" - but he of course went on to win the game, and would beat us all 20/0 in a simul.... Btw - I couldn't help myself but to correct your spelling over at Perfesser Eyal's Ministry of Zilly Talks heh |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Yes I saw that.
You have my hearty Zanks!! |

Oct-11-09
 | | jessicafischerqueen: I remember almost every word you've told me about chess training over the last three years. Believe, me, I appreciate it.
Instructive!
(literally)
HAHAHAHAAH |

| Oct-11-09 | | achieve: Likewise!
And you can also ZWANK me later!
heh |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Yes, it's well known that long haired wiener dogs like to see a good hearty laugh- no doubt <Lars> joined in. Your mention of laughing out loud brought back a memory of a time I also laughed out loud- and continue to do so whenever I remember it. Do you remember this TOP SECRET COMMINUIQUE?
"I know something they have in common. Neither of them owns a chess board." HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA
Remember?
I don't know why that was so funny to me, and still is. HAHAHAHAHA
I suppose I wasn't expecting it. |
|
| Oct-11-09 | | achieve: Yes - I *do* remember, but mum's the word; only *we* know... Btw, I really find it more than slighly puzzling, that someone who can spell and use words like "scrutinization", manages to spell "opopent" - see latest onto-miniature at the Carlsen page... |
|
Oct-11-09
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Niels> well you know <dak's> theory might be the solution to the mystery. <onto> might be perpetrating some unusually entertaining "performance art." |
|
| Oct-11-09 | | hms123: <jess> <niels> My vote--<performance art>. He's just too good. He's only second, though, to <I Like Fish>. He just gets better and better. |
|
| Oct-11-09 | | achieve: Honestly, I think he's *too* confusing in his brilliancy-- I can not imagine anyone 'composing' this work on purpose. Best to sit back and enjoy; like Howard says, he may just be warming up, as well... |
