| Oct-11-09 | | dakgootje: He (supposing it's a he) has a nice name actually; freely translated as 'being sarcastic'. onto from the Greek verb for to be ontos (?), compare with ontology which is the philosophical study of being (as in existence). Caustic (in merriam-webster's words) meaning 'marked by incisive sarcasm'. Strengthens my belief someone likes looking words up in dictionaries (and thus writing the harder words consequently right). |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: The admins like <I Like Fish>, and have even parodied him on the chessgames.com forum. Which might explain how he just got away with bloody murder the other day with some hilarious sexual-content posts.... |

| Oct-11-09 | | achieve: I finally dared to do what I promised some days ago; I asked him to disclose his native language, at the Carlsen page, where he posted some minutes ago... Btw - I am not a fan (on the contrary) of <I like [...]> - but that's - as is the case so many times - a matter of taste, I suppose. Not near onto's shadow, imo. <Strengthens my belief someone likes looking words up in dictionaries (and thus writing the harder words consequently right).> Good chance, I agree. |

| Oct-11-09 | | A Karpov Fan: Sorry about the miscommunication earlier <Jess>. I really didn't mean to imply chess was easy, or that there is any easy way of playing it. Not that I know of currently anyhow :-)
I was looking at this position and thought you might enjoy trying to find the combination. click for larger viewWhite to go and win

| Oct-11-09 | | dakgootje: oi, I knew there was a catch solving the puzzle :(
I'll give them a go tomorrow (hopefully) :D If I find the time... which is scarce either way currently and just found out I've <really> got to see <loads> of youtube-videos... yeps, compulsory ;) |

| Oct-12-09 | | Open Defence: heh I am playing against a guy rated 2367 ... not only has he avoided my Marshall lines.. but he moves instantly.. the moment I move about 15 mins later he logs in and moves... the call is definitely coming from inside the house.... |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Deffi> do you mean you suspect him of a little "extra help"? I think his rating might be too low to indicate that no? If you're going to use that kind of assistance, wouldn't you have a 3000 plus rating like all the other cheaters? Maybe he's just online ALL THE TIME.
heh
You can have them send you a "tweet" in these games when someone moves, if you choose that setting. Well you can at my site anyhoo. Although you know what truth be told- everyone knows that "real ICCF games" permit engine help because there's no way to stop that so you kind of have to. I don't see any real argument against allowing engine use in Correspondence at any level- although I should think it would be more fun for both if engines weren't used. Luckily I never got my rating over 2200 so I sincerely doubt I ever played anyone who got "help". |
|
| Oct-12-09 | | dakgootje: <If you're going to use that kind of assistance, wouldn't you have a 3000 plus rating like all the other cheaters?> not if the person doesn't run the engine for that long per move or just had a crappy engine :P <Luckily I never got my rating over 2200> heh, I believe my game-knot rating is still 1700-ish :D |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <dak> my site starts at a 1400 baseline system so you have to subtract at least 200 points to compare it to other sites- and even then you'd have to know how the other sites work the rating. 1200 is a much more common baseline- that's what <Yahoo> uses for example. Chess.com uses JIMINY GLICKO for example.
But not <letsplaychess.com> |

| Oct-12-09 | | crawfb5: <jessicafischerqueen: Also I've retired from Correspondence chess permanently because it gives me hives.> Careful, or you'll set off another round of bee song parodies... "What's the buzz? Tell me what's a-happening..."
Also, I'm not such a problem ace as you might think. The more "problem-like" the piece placement, the more disoriented I get. Everything seems out of context. I'm better at finding interesting problems than solving them. |
|
| Oct-12-09 | | crawfb5: My current opponents at Kingscrusher's site are rated 2726 (1 game), 2649 (2 games), 2445 (2 games), and 2287 (2 games). I think I'm crusin' for a bruisin'... |
