Dec-09-09  Thorski: I haven't read <AS>, just <JP>+<LW>, <Prey>, <State of Fear> and <Sphere>, which make up roughly 0,1% of his oeuvre.

<Prey> was mildly annoying, with its ravenous nanobots.

Air, the French electronica duo, were in Oslo last week. <SM> should make a montage for one of their songs. They seem up his alley.

Dec-12-09  theagenbiteofinwit: Re:
<Konglish <is> a language. Possibly you should review what constitutes an accurate definition of the word "language" from a reputable linguistics text book>

That was completely uncalled for. You misunderstood the intent of my post and apparently took the opportunity to attempt to impugn me.

I never said that Konglish wasn't a language, I was referring to signage in which English is used more for aesthetic elements than to communicate a specific message. The December 8 entry of Engrish.com seems to be an instance of this. Again, I am not referring to any type of verbal communication. I was only talking about signage in which English is used as a design element.

Lexically categorizing sentences that weren't made to function as literal communication IS a waste of time. It would be far more productive to be able to actually talk with the person who came up with the idea of the sign in the first place and learn what they were trying to achieve, and what their aesthetic motivations are.

jessicafischerqueen: Yes, quite right- <signage> is not actual language.

I was pulling your leg- I didn't mean to impugn your linguistic expertise, which is doubtless superior to mine.

I investigate <Engrish.com> on a daily basis, so I do know exactly what you are talking about.

I urge you to file my response under the <bite of wit> category.

Dec-12-09  Thorski: <Jess><Who will be King this year? You, <mack>, <Switching Owls for Thugs>? Will <TOUCHDOWN> score a touchdown? Will <thorski> win?>

Maybe next week, once I settle into my Christmas holiday. Gotta be around when the clues appear. They must get knocked off pretty quickly. Been a few easy ones, such as the long kid and the ASCII code (we spent the early '90s working with HEX-editors to modify our games, heh). No idea on the current clue. Looks like a still from an '80s concert video. The player looks vaguely like Lasker, but the chin's off. The elongated pieces resemble the 1895 St. Petersburg set.

Off to a family get-together. Have a great weekend, Jess! *hugs*

  jessicafischerqueen: Great song <H> thanks-

Who knew that the historic <Bretton Woods> conference was not actually held in Europe, as most think, but rather in house of a talented American soul singer?

Also, I don't know if you noticed, but the fellow who uploaded that video is named <Willy Beable>.

HAHAHAHAAH

I want to be "Mrs. Willy Beable."

In Canada, shop is always spelled "shoppe", same as in Archie Comics.

Actually everything about Canada is exactly the same as in an Archie comic.

Dec-12-09  hms123: <jess> Does that mean that there are closet Canadians running <shoppes> all over the US? Does Homeland Security know about this? Probably not.

What's to be donne?
