| Jan-03-10 | | notyetagm: Game Collection: COA: Capture or Attack The Underrated Removal of the Guard
by NM Dan Heisman
http://www.chesscafe.com/text/heism...
- "A piece that is guarded by another piece which is subject to
capture or attack is likely not defended at all."
- "The logic “a guarded piece is not really guarded if the guard can be taken or attacked” is not emphasized in most beginner’s books." - "One reason for the difficulty in understanding this motif is due to the fact that there are two similar but different concepts that could beinvolved. The idea “Removal of the Guard” can mean either
“capturing it immediately” – as Black missed in the above example by
not playing 3…Rxf5, or it can mean “attacking the guard” in such a
way that if the guard has to move away from its guarding duties, it
leaves the guarded piece vulnerable. An example of the latter concept was the missed 1…g6." |

| Jan-04-10 | | crawfb5: I've been meaning to ask you what you know/think about this Canadian band I've recently run across. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twvb...
QUACK! indeed... |

| Jan-04-10 | | zarg: <jessicafischerqueen> The other day I saw a terrific post by you on Feynman and natural science in general, but lost my Internet connection before I could applaud it! Now, I couldn't locate the post any more, perhaps it just has turned into pure energy and is travelling through the Universe. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Big Crawdaddy> I never heard of THE DUKHS before so thanks for showing me- I do like that song a lot- who wouldn't like yet another song where a woman accuses someone or other of various heinousness. These songs are popular with young women for some reason. But what's up with their name? Are they DUKHOBHORS?
I don't hold with that kind of thing, you get a lot of it in Alberta. I think one of them set his whole village on fire a few years ago because his wife made him a coat with buttons sewn on it or something. Do you think Mormons have good folk bands too?
(good animal puns heh) |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <zarg> yes thank you for reading it and for your kind comment- Unfortunately the post you refer to was near the end of a thread that I started by posting a long, and obscene, rant that broke every single one of the posting guidelines, as well as every dictum for acceptable human communication. Consequently, I deleted the entire thread.
I don't like people arguing in my forum, but when it's me who starts the argument, I have to get rid of my posts as well when I do the "cleaning." Incidentally I don't believe in "free speech" in my forum. Same as I don't in my house.
If someone walked in to my house- without knocking- and started putting up posters of Lev Aronian all over my wall I would take them down, rip them up, throw the person out, and call the police. I would do the same in my forum, and frequently do.
Lev is a fine chessplayer but I really can't stand to look at his face, for aesthetic reasons. If there is a female equivalent of getting a saltpeter dose, then a photo of Lev should do it. As always, thanks for dropping by <zarg>!! |

| Jan-04-10 | | crawfb5: <I do like that song a lot- who wouldn't like yet another song where a woman accuses someone or other of various heinousness. These songs are popular with young women for some reason.> I find it disturbing that Doreen is familiar with this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3ya...
especially when you consider she doesn't listen to much country music...I've gone from sleeping with one eye open to both eyes open... The Duhks (supposedly pronounced <ducks>) are from Winnipeg, so I thought you might know something of them. They blend a lot of different styles, and that song is probably the most pop-oriented. Here's the title track from the recent album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UBv... Speaking of young women, have you heard about those arranging for them to swim with, um, "frisky" sea mammals? The facility even went so far as to install guard predators, but doped meat will put even the king of the jungle to sleep. It's a terrible thing to transport women across staid lions for immoral porpoises... |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: staid lions... heh
Well <Big Crawdaddy> I deplore all such "trends" regardless of their actual content. I think people should be working 16 hour days in a stuffy office instead of skylarking with Killer Whales and other questionable species. Bloody malingerers.
I will listen to your new song posts later, I have a few voles to wash and other important errands at the moment. The sum total of what I know about <Winnipeg> is this: If you go to Assinaboia Downs race track, the only safe bet is to back a horse that is not from Winnipeg. That's based on bitter personal experience.
I also stood at the corner of Portage and Main in a blizzard just to say I did it- unfortunately I can't remember the experience now- and I'm against photography "on principle." There are lots of DUHKABHORS in Manitoba so I remain "suspicious" of this band. |

| Jan-04-10 | | Travis Bickle: <jessicafischerqueen> Hi Jess you made my day when you stopped by! ; ) Your 1 of the few people I really enjoy sharing ideas and conversing with! Ya know Jess I never made that connection but Mazzy does seem to parallel Jim Morrison's artistry! Of all The Beatles George was by far the most spiritual. I thought his songs fit the writings on your page. Thanks for the compliment on me talking about your video work! I think you really have talent!! Whatever method an artist uses for their art is ok as long as it works for them. I would like to challnege you
with the idea of doing a video with no clear cut message but 1 of making somebody feeling passionate. To me that is truly art! Keep up the graphic art cause your good at it! ; P
P.S. I linked a song before your video to set a mood. It's 'Wear Your Love Like Heaven' by Donovan. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Great song <Travis> and yes it fits perfectly with the mood. I'm also very glad that a music historian such as yourself is running the <Emporium>- there is a big demand for this at the website and you should remember that many many people who don't necessarily make posts are in fact listening to the many selections at your forum. Also, music history experts such as <Jim> and <The Alchemist> and <Deffi> make it a very good learning environment for music buffs like us. |
