jessicafischerqueen: Thanks <Big Crawdaddy> that was a lot more concise and germane to my query than a GOOGLE search- I regard using GOOGLE to be "jejune", even though I use it Googol times a day.

And thanks for that invaluable pgnmentor link.

I've bookmarked it.

I wish I had more vacation time because thanks to your resources and my current study of Menchik, I think that a lot of her missing games could be submitted to the database.

Feb-27-10  Travis Bickle: Queen Jess now you have to go back to the mainland and get stressed out with the young ladies & gentlemen of the S. Korean curriculum. Your many duties will include to supervise, survey for cheaters & rap knuckles with sturdy rulers! You have to motivate, try to get whats between their ears to get a spark & grade those test scores twice a week. A job well done Dr. Jessica! ; P
Feb-27-10  crawfb5: Oh, Canada, indeed! Those women know how to party!

Feb-27-10  crawfb5: All of Vera's Ramsgate games are already here, but none of the Mieses match games have been uploaded. You'd have to look for important games and check to see if they're already in CG's database, and if not, upload them one at a time.
Feb-27-10  Travis Bickle: Hey Jess look on the bright side, at least you don't have to teach in the west. ; P

Feb-27-10  Travis Bickle: Hey Jess remember the time you asked me who I thought would win in a Bruce Lee vs Muhammad Ali fight? This is why I chose Lee. The man was just so resourceful! He always found a way to win!

Feb-27-10  A.G. Argent: JQueen <...last Chess Video for a long time...back to work...> Nooo! Loved the Menchik piece. You can't stop now; you're establishing a fan base. I was just getting ready to ask if you would ever start considering requests. For example; The Great Fine.
Feb-27-10  Travis Bickle: Jess I just watched your Vera Menchick video and it was superb!! I think it is your best video so far! Very well constructed harmoniously with locations, chess scores, great pictures & chess history all precisely packaged in such a short film. Remarkable!! I loved the music and learned quite alot about Vera, who I had no idea was that strong of a chess player. Your ending was done in away that was chillingly sad with that Nazi plane flying overhead. Outstanding!

Only 1 criticism and maybe its just me, but I wish you would give a few more seconds in between images when giving information and showing pictures, etc.

Feb-27-10  Travis Bickle: Jess when you have time I have a bold request of a documentary on Paul Morphy who Fischer once said "was probably the greatest genius of them all"!
Feb-27-10  hms123: <jess> You're a star!! You even have your own <Argent> (minus the <r>).
Feb-28-10  Russian Grandmasters: <A.G. Argent> I did look in to <Fine> and also <Flohr> and <Reshevsky> and a few other very strong player from the 30s and 40s-

But with the exception of <Reshevsky> there simply aren't enough photos of them available on the Internet- that I can find.

There are enough images of <Morphy> to do a video however- so <Travis> I will take your request and construct a <Morphy> film.

I figure I will just have to work more slowly.

There should be plenty of time to do it while I'm at "work" though-

heh

Feb-28-10  Russian Grandmasters: <A.G. Argent>

And you know to tell you the truth I looked long and hard for more <Flohr> pictures. He really got the short end of the stick by historical events.

In 1937, before the <Alekhine-Euwe> rematch, FIDE narrowly selected Flohr over Capablanca as the next Candidate- although Capa of course missed a lot of premium events because Alekhine successfully blackballed him for years.

Even so, Flohr finished ahead of Alekhine three times in the 1930s.

However, I guess Flohr really blew his big chance when he finished so poorly at AVRO 1938.

Ironically, both he and Capa finished at the bottom, and <your man> Fine finished shared first.

Although they had a playoff and <Keres> got the official winner's wreath.

Feb-28-10  Russian Grandmasters: <Travis> I'm glad you said that. I also prefer a longer look at the photos- the default setting is five seconds.

I extend the photos longer sometimes, but I always feel guilty and worried people will get bored.

Also, there was so many resources for Bobby and Alekhine that it would have taken longer than 5 chapters.

And nobody ever watches a "home movie" longer than 5 chapters.

Most won't even do that.

That's because HOME MOVIES ARE CRAP!

aahhhhhhhhhhh

Feb-28-10  achieve: <Jess> Having just watched the <Vera Menchik> tribute film, if I may say so--

I am genuinely moved, and typing here misty eyed...

The timing of the pictures with the musical score seems outstanding to me, and the way you tell her story, an absolutely remarkable and unique one, is just gripping- and at some points I rewound the clip and paused it to have a closer look or read...

I could go on and on, but one more thing, and absolutely had me fall off my chair almost--

At 8:28 - that photo with <Sonja Graf> and the way she had her hair, and her facial features... A carbon copy almost of <KD Lang>!!!

heh

Well, full marks for this video, and I'll go and watch it several more times, and look up some of her games, to see how she "took it" to the likes of Euwe, Mieses, Spielmann.... The list goes on and on.

Thank you!

Feb-28-10  Russian Grandmasters: lol

Yes she really could pull off the "Men's Look" that Sonja Graf.

I'm glad you enjoyed the film and the music <Niels>- thanks to you and <Howard> a whole new world has opened up for me.

Feb-28-10  achieve: And you in turn are opening up worlds to me ("us"), <Jess>. That's how it goes. (Keres, Menchik etc. - you in a way really put them "back on the map" for me.)

I think you deserve praise for all the time you put in, and for the quality of your work. I call em as I see (hear) them.

So back to "work" on tuesday I read somewhere?

I bet you'll make the transition quickly. I'll probably be bugging you on Menchik's wins OVER ME! - Doctor Euwe!

heh

10 b2-b4? (Fischer)

16 ... ♘e5-c4

<Garech: I agree with the above, a brilliant game from Fischer. The fianchetto variation is a bit disheartening to the King's Indian Defence player as the traditional counter-attack with f5 etc is not advisable. <<<However, the weakness with fianchetto systems for white is the c4 square>>>, and this was a virtuoso display not only of exploiting that but also of how to build positional pressure and turn it into a decisive breakthrough - great game!>

Now I understand Fischer's comment, that 10 b2-b4? was a *bad* move.

In the KID, often the White light-squared bishop is on the e2-square, covering c4. But in the Fianchetto System, it is on g2 where it does *not* cover c4.

<Fischer is saying that 10 b2-b4? is bad because <IN CONJUCTION WITH> the fianchettoed g2-bishop, it makes the c4-square too weak. <<<After 1 d2-d4, 4 ♗f1-g2, and 10 b2-b4?, who is left to <PROTECT> the valuable c4-square?>>>>

Mar-01-10  notyetagm: <jessicafischerqueen: <Coach> That's a wonderful example of some "opening theory" from the <Donner> game- thanks for sharing it with me.>

Thought you would like it, since you are a big JFischerQ fan. :-)

BTW, did I tell you I drew Fischer rival GM Bisquier in a rated club game a few weeks ago? :-0

jessicafischerqueen: It's a good time to visit the <Max Euwe Center>:

<"It is 75 years ago that Max Euwe became the 5th World Champion by beating Alexander Alekhine in a tensely contested match. Honouring a request of the Dutch Chess Federation, FIDE has recognized Euwe's achievement and aptly declared 2010 'Euwe year'. Undoubtedly FIDE also wished to honour the achievements of the Dutchman in his capacity as 3rd President of the World Chess Federation. It was under Euwe's presidency (1970-1978) that FIDE expanded considerably; today it has a worldwide membership of 169 countries.

In the Netherlands the Max Euwe Foundation will organize a number of events in 2010 to celebrate its eponymous hero. The heart of the Foundation is the Chess Centre in Amsterdam which has its domicile on the Max Euwe Square (close to the Donner Bridge).">

This way to <The Center>: User: achieve

Mar-01-10  Travis Bickle: Hey Jess Correction <Ali> met *<Superman> in comic book form. And yes team Canada beat The Americans who looked like they were playing without hockey sticks. hahaha!!!

jessicafischerqueen: Edge to Fiske April 3 1859

In the presence of the London Chess Club, Mr Mongredien said to our hero - “You must be very careful, Mr Morphy, what you say and do with regard to Staunton: he is a wily customer and will find means to back out of this match and throw the onus upon you”.

Still further, am I not the sole cause of his remaining in Europe and beating Anderssen, without which he would have returned to America uncrowned and unacknowledged?
