The song Strawberry Fields came about when The Beatles began writing for SGT Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. It was a childhood place Lennon had memories of. Paul McCartney in turn wrote about a place in his childhood memories which was Penny Lane. The songs never made the album SGT Peppers because Beatles Manager Brian Epstein pressured record producer George Martin to release some knew Beatles music. Martin later stated that was the biggest mistake of his career! Imagine how much better Sgt Peppers would have been with those two songs on it!
