Game Collection: QUEEN TRAPS: when your Lady gets checkmated

This has got to be one of the *worst* games I have ever seen someone with a 2465(!) rating play.

GM Baburin in Chess Today gives 13 ... ♘d7-b6? and 14 ... b5-b4?, after which the Black Lady is <TRAPPED> by force.

Mar-10-10  obientag: <JFQ> hi sistah.its been along time, where thou has been? we've been missing you for a long time at wesley so page. see yah... :)
Mar-10-10  Open Defence: <jess> what did you think of this one ?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pt2R...

Mar-11-10  Boomie: AMBER ALERT!

We desparately need to come up with new nicknames.

Here are some modest attempts:

1.Levon Aronian - Leave a Light On

2.Magnus Carlsen - Magnum Opie

3.Leinier Dominguez - The Marines Have Landed on the Shores of Leinier Dominguez

4.Vugar Gashimov - Great Vulgar Gash of a Man

5.Boris Gelfand - Gelpack

6.Vasily Ivanchuk - Evil Chucky

7.Sergey Karjakin - Carjackin'

8.Vladimir Kramnik - Krammy

9.Alexander Morozevich - Dropped out. Think Gristle took his place.

10.Ruslan Ponomariov - Pornomariobrother

11.Jan Smeets - Smeets do yo stuff, Sweet Smeets, Smeets don't fail me now.

12.Peter Svidler - Anything containing the word "Fiddler"

Mar-11-10  Boomie: <Jessie Messy Girl>

Occurs to me that Marines ref is so obscure that even I don't remember it.

Atchully it's the great folk songwriter Phil Ochs song. Alas I can't find his version of it.

Here's a pigden version on UTub.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJx-...

Here's a funny Ochs song that I used to sing incessantly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RID3...

Ochs was a master of black humor. He loved to slam the so called liberals who suddenly change into conservatives when something effects them personally. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulTm...

He was also produced some beautiful ballads. Unfortunately I can't find his version of "Changes" but here it is ably and lovingly performed by Gordon Lightfoot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cybV...

wwall: Your YouTube videos on Fischer, Morphy, Keres, Alekhine, Menchik, etc are great. Keep up the good work. I'll have to update my Fischer bio file soon. Waiting for the movie to come out.

jessicafischerqueen: <wwall> Thanks so much for your encouragement-

And thanks for all of your hard work.

I made heavy use of your "Bill Wall Chess Biographies" of <Alekhine, Menchik, and Morphy> as well as tons of rare material from <Sarah Beth>.

You know I almost drove myself insane trying to find a picture of <Thomas Wilson Barnes>- still no luck.

But I did find a way to crop a picture of <Mongredien> and Sarah Beth found a picture of <John Owen>.

I will add your fine <Fischer biography> to my Profile and I'll keep an eye out for the "post-film update."

It's very good to hear you again- I remember you from the <Schiller-Wall-Katic vs. FRITZ> Match you played three years ago. You were very solicitous to answer our questions and comments from the PEANUT GALLERY in that exciting event, and hats off to <chessmoron> for organizing and hosting it.

Best regards,
Jess

Mar-12-10  Travis Bickle: Hi Jess I think after all that hard work you should pour a glass of wine light a canle and slip into a hot bubble bath and chill listening to the..."Chaiyya Chaiyya" video LOL!! Wait no that will give you an andrenaline rush. Better turn on Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony instead.

; P

P.S. I'd rather have a hello from you than a stadium of thousands singing "you'll never drink alonnnne"!! lol

P.S.#2 A meletron is basically a keyboard set up with tape loops of recorded sounds. The tape loops are then sampled by playing the keyboard using verying speeds & pitches. Here is a good example of one.

Mar-12-10  Travis Bickle: Jess here's the ultimate Al Green song!! David Letterman requested Al to sing this one on his show!

Mar-12-10  crawfb5: <You know I almost drove myself insane trying to find a picture of <Thomas Wilson Barnes>- still no luck.>

Try this:

http://books.google.com/books?id=iy...

Mar-12-10  crawfb5: If you really want to do the game, you have my blessing. I quoted the most relevant notes by Geller from <The Application of Chess Theory>, but you might want to look over the whole annotation. I have a book on Najdorf, but it's late and I'll have to look later to see if it adds anything -- I don't think so, which is why I didn't quote it in the notes to the game.

I didn't go into Fischer's ideas at all because the game didn't take that turn. I thought at first it might be in M50MG, but it was the Candidate's tournament game in 1959 that I was remembering instead of the 1958 Interzonal game. I don't know if RJF did any formal notes to that game or not.

I think Niels has found the bust I was seeking with his rook lift idea. I'm not completely certain, but almost.

Maybe you're seeing more potential in this than I, but if you want to try something different, go ahead. Let me know what, if anything you need.

Mar-13-10  notyetagm: Check out this great win by GM Ivan Sokolov.

I Sokolov vs A Lenderman, 2010

Mar-13-10  hms123: <jess> Check out this game as well: I Sokolov vs F Caruana, 2010

Note especially how Sokolov plays <35.Rxh6+> to simplify into a won Queen ending.

You should also pay attention to how Sokolov wins the ending by a combination of checks that end in snapping off Lenderman's pawns. The underlying theme is typical in these Q+P's endings.

Mar-13-10  notyetagm: Sokolov sure does love to sacrifice material for <CONNECTED PASSERS>.

chancho: <Jess> I just saw your Morphy video. I only have one word for it: Awesome.
Mar-13-10  Travis Bickle: Jessica I just watched your Morphy film. 1 word to decribe it, Exquisite!! I commend you on your excellent choice of music, sets magical tones to an expertly put together film! Your music actually builds tension as the video progresses! I like how you combine scenic images with art like shots of Morphy sailing and game score history. Your moving piece game scenarios brings the viewer to that moment in time and to view excellent chess! I got the feeling that this short film you painstakingly made could be made into a full length feature film by Hollywood! You know, real life American unrecognized genius Chess Hero movie with an excellent story to tell. I can see Johnny Depp as Morphy! ; P

P.S. I see you grow with almost every film you make that I think after your prison term in S. Korea (; P) that you should consider going to film school! Bravo Jess!!

Mar-13-10  notyetagm: <jessicafischerqueen: <Coach>

great series of <Soko lov them passers> games- I played out the resigned positions against my Shredder. Tougher than it looks, at least for me.>

Yes, *very* instructive play by Sokolov.

The top GMs make chess look so easy. Just make some connected passers and win! What could be easier than that?

:-)

jessicafischerqueen: NEW Chess History film- now with more fiber and "moving chess pieces"

<Paul Morphy: Mozart of Chess Part two>

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsPg...

Mar-13-10  Travis Bickle: Jess I think there is a market for a film like that if the right actor or director were to get involved. Too bad I didn't have a screenplay to send to Martin Scorsese or Johnny Depp. Don't forget that Searching For Bobby Fischer was a big success at the box office!

Notice in particular how <TACTICALLY ALERT> Ivanchuk is, even in a blindfold game. 31 ... ♕c5x♘b5! is possible *only* because White's last move 31 d2-d3? <OPENED> the 2nd rank. <Were the White pawn still on d2, ... ♕c5x♘b5 would win only ♖♘ for ♕ <<<SINCE THERE WOULD BE NO FOLLOWUP SKEWER ACROSS THE BLOCKED 2ND RANK>>>>.

Mar-14-10  notyetagm: HAPPY PI DAY!
Mar-14-10  Open Defence: nice moving chess pieces in the Morphy game, were you using the Fritz interface for that ?
Mar-14-10  benjinathan: <Don't forget that Searching For Bobby Fischer was a big success at the box office!>

It depends how you define "big success". It was the 124th highest grossing films the year it was released, grossing $7.3 million. Given the good cast, I think that is pretty crappy, albeit sad.

Mar-14-10  Travis Bickle: <benjinathan> I didnt know the box office numbers, I guess I was going by the reaction I got when I viewed the movie in the theatre. I know in Chicago the critics praised it and everyone I talked to said it was a good film. But It is sad that Hollywood's mentality is about pot smokers, big boobed bimbo's in love with vampires, with the required zombies cannibalizing the locals. Add to that some sophmoric sexual humor with a high speed car chase, the required number of murders and you have a successful film. The bean counters have replaced artisitic film with sitcom.
