| Mar-20-10 | | Travis Bickle: <jessicafischerqueen: ...You don't see anyone gnashing their teeth after losing at Monopoly. But I saw a hockey player break his stick over the other guys' head one time just because his team lost.>
Now this is pure Jessica'ism LOL!!! John Lennon said Ringo Starr spoke at times in Ringo'isms. Ya know like after an all night recording session Ringo tells the other Beatles while leaving the studio, "Well it's been a hard days night"! Jess you too possess a killer vocabulary where you cut right to the core of where it's at! ; P |

| Mar-20-10 | | SugarDom: Hello Jessica...
Now i know you don't want to be no.1 kibitzer just yet. You're taking the time. You have Mrs. Alekhine and Russiangrandmasters as well. Of course English teachers should be very good at kibitzing... I still think we'll get into that coronation night sooner or later... Good luck...:) |

| Mar-20-10 | | Travis Bickle: Thanks Jess but I have that troll on avoid for a long time now because all he makes is stupid comments. He's frustrated because he's on avoid. |

| Mar-21-10 | | kormier: Sean Lennon Defends Yoko Ono Posted on Mar 3rd 2010 7:29PM by Benjy Eisen Comments (221)Print | Email More <If you can't imagine John Lennon wanting to be in a car commercial, you're not alone. But you're also out of luck -- Lennon not only appears, posthumously of course, in a current commercial for French automobile maker Citroen, but the clip actually connects footage of him talking about creative invention to images of Citroen's luxury DS3 model. As always, outraged fans blamed Yoko Ono>. On Tuesday, Lennon's son, <Sean Lennon, defended his mom while respecting his dad. Taking to Twitter>, he wrote: <<"She did not do it for money. Has to do w hoping to keep dad in public consciousness. No new LPs, so TV ad is exposure to young.">> A valid point, to be sure, but the commercial is still, perhaps, a little unsettling to Beatles fans who consider things like high-end automobile endorsements undermining Lennon's true legacy as an artist, as well as his integrity as a public figure. Click here to view a YouTube of the actual commercial. <"Having just seen the ad I realize why people are mad," Sean followed up, on Twitter. "But intention was not financial, was simply wanting to keep him out there in the world."> In the clip, Lennon is seen discussing why we shouldn't look to the past for inspiration. "Once a thing's been done, it's been done," he says. "So why all this nostalgia?" Oh, don't let the irony get past you. ___________ p.s. something doesn't appear right but i ain't always good in english..... by, tks mam till later |

<Paul Morphy: Mozart of Chess-Part three> In this segment Morphy finishes his match with Daniel Harrwitz and plays his famous Opera House game against the Duke of Brunswick and Count Isouard. He receives a challenge from the fearsome German champion Adolf Anderssen, arguably the best chess player in the world since he obliterated Howard Staunton at the great London 1851 Supertournament. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7xa... |

technical draw: <JFQ> Just saw the video you call "The Saddest Bobby Fischer video". I agree. It's hard to watch. I thought I caught a glimpse of our friend Malthorpe, right?> However I cannot remember the music associated with it. You could try the first movement of the Tchaikovsky 4th symphony and see if that fits. |
|
| Mar-21-10 | | technical draw: <JFQ> Here's the You Tube link to Tchaikovsky's 4th. This is the first movement. After the horn intro you have the haunting main theme that has Fischer written all over it. Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-c1... |

| Mar-22-10 | | achieve: <Jess>--<Yes thanks for your encouraging and substantive post about PAUL MORPHY PART DEUX.> <Anyways thanks again for such helpful comments.> Acksherly, it wasn't my first intention, doh, to be helpful and all "coach-like" - guess it's hard to shake off - but mainly wanted to convey something along the lines of .... heh
PART DEUX is at "my" space/place ...
Fascinating how you've brought Morphy back "in the picture" for me, and definitely planning here to study games of the great Matches you address; AND IT CAN ONLY IMPROVE MY CHESS!! I really look forward to getting The Center involved in Study of Morphy's notable games and matches. As soon as I get around to it, when Amber is finished... |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Good thinking <Doctor>- I've taken a good look at the resigned positions in the games I put in the videos- I'm struck by how precise Morphy's vision was. It's very difficult in some cases (for me) to see the continuation- very often it's a ONE MOVE ONLY continuation and derives from a series of preceding ONLY MOVE combinations. He was master of the complicated, and forced, tactical line. Also I think it's a fallacy that he wasn't a positional player. He played positionally, and more conservatively, when his opposition demanded it. This was particularly true in the case of <Adolf Anderssen>, who I think was his toughest opponent and by some measure too. Look at the three games Morphy plays Black against the dreaded "Anderssen Opening"- which he scored 50% in- these are very "modern looking" positional struggles in which subtle piece maneouvering and "principles" come to the forefront. It's just not true that Steinitz "invented" the positional style- although he certainly went to town with it. Of course remember also that Steinitz was stomping everyone in Match play BEFORE his "positional" era as well. I think it was much more that he was simply a stronger player period- as opposed to he started dominating through a "superior style." I think the distinction between "positonal" and "tactical" is ultimately false anyways. One is just an extension of the other. Bobby thought Morphy to be the "most accurate" player of all time. And Bobby didn't care about style.
"I believe in good moves."

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Here is an excellent chess channel-
"The Chess Network"- he's a strong American tournament player, and he often combines very interesting historical information with game analysis: http://www.youtube.com/user/ChessNe...
And here is his most recent video on <Mikhail Tal's> last game- ever- in his life. A win on time against Kasparov in Blitz:

| Mar-22-10 | | achieve: That's a promising Chess Channel; great to see!
<Jess> And your above assessment on <chess style> is mostly shared in the quotes I drew from our "old" canadian friend <Chopin> (remember him? he helped me get over <20> pages, so I wouldn't be a "teenager" anymore!) - Chopin left the scene a few years ago, but "gave us" some fine game-collections, one on <Morphy>, introduced by a number of very striking quotes. Here's one: <
"In Paul Morphy the spirit of La Bourdonnais had arisen anew, only more vigorous, firmer, prouder... Morphy discovered that the brilliant move of the master is essentially conditional not on a sudden and inexplicable realisation, but on the placing of the pieces on the board. He introduced the rule: brilliant moves and deep winning manoeuvres are possible only in those positions where the opponent can be opposed with an abundance of active energy... From the very first moves Morphy aimed to disclose the internal energy located in his pieces. It was suddenly revealed that they possess far greater dynamism than the opponent's forces." --Emanuel Lasker >
The collection <If Chess was a religion, Morphy would be God> is linked chez Le Centre. And yes, Tal's left hand delicately (a little weakened) moving the piece and then pressing the clock with his slender fingers... Quite emotional footage. |
|
| Mar-22-10 | | achieve: "A popularly held theory about Paul Morphy is that if he returned to the chess world today and played our best contemporary players, he would come out the loser. Nothing is further from the truth. In a set match, Morphy would beat anybody alive today... Morphy was perhaps the most accurate chess player who ever lived. He had complete sight of the board and never blundered, in spite of the fact that he played quite rapidly, rarely taking more than five minutes to decide a move. Perhaps his only weakness was in closed games like the Dutch Defense. But even then, he was usually victorious because of his resourcefulness." -- Bobby Fischer |
