I was just reading this lovely book by Neil MacDonald who i am quite fond of as an author...lessee...the book is called THE GIANTS OF POWER PLAY...Morphy lost his first three games with Harrwitz...one "friendly" game and then two match games...Harrwitz was a super solid grinder...but Morphy stepped back and changed his game a bit to deal with Harrwitz and proceeded to knock him on his ass i imagine. ANyhow this is very interesting because it EXPLODES three chess cliches: (A) the 19th century chess was a "romantic" game only with crazy needlebonger attacking alla time (B) Morphy was "Miles Ahead" of his contemporaries (he wasn't miles ahead after a 0-3 start vs. Harrwitz...he had to adjust to and study and prepare for his opposition just like everybody else...except Capa maybe..)
