Exsqueeze me? That's vintage Deffi. Ya got your sources mixed up.

Dyslexics untie!
You have nothing to chain but your losses!

Mar-26-10  technical draw: Thanks <Boomie>. I figured someone is stealing someone else's material or style. I just mixed up the stealer with the stealee.

Mar-26-10  technical draw: JFQ's style, Deffi's style, Boomie's style. All very nice but no one beats, tah-dah, TD's style!
Mar-26-10  Travis Bickle: I don't have a style. I'm like Fischer I just play the best move! ; P
Mar-26-10  technical draw: Fischer said, "I don't believe in psychology, I believe in a .44 magnum" or something like that.

I got a .38 Special on a .45 frame. How can I miss when I got dead aim? Good time Boomie's back in town again.

The only vid I could find to this incredibly obscure reference. The great "Spider" John Koerner's song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NM76...

Mar-27-10  achieve: <Jess> I was doing some research on Morphy, his (rare) losses, Loewenthal... to cut a long story short, as commented here by <Honza>:

<

Jul-30-05

Honza Cervenka: <chessgames.com> This game was played by S. Loewenthal according to Tarrasch's Dreihundert Schachpartien. By the way, Johann Loewenthal died in 1876.> -- Tarrasch vs Lowenthal, 1883

1883 ???

1876 ???

Indeed, since Siegbert Tarrasch was born in <1862>, then at the time of Loewenthal's passing Siegbert must have been a mere 14 years of age, and as his Bio states only played his first recorded games at the age of <15> ...

?????

That leaves three, scratch that, four, possibilities:

-- Tarrasch' date of birth is incorrect (unlikely)

-- Loewenthal did not die in 1876, and Honza Cervenka may be wrong (unlikely)

-- The game wasn't really played (unlikely)

-- Tarrasch DID play a Loewenthal in 1883, but, as Honza says, against a <S> Loewenthal, not Johann! (likely)

I'll drop a line at Honza's house too, though understandibly he'll be busy with GOLDEN ANETA and prolly not much online after the voting romp...

I'm sure Honza is correct though, and I have just spent over an hour wondering what escaped me, and why CG hadn't corrected their mistake since 2005....

Doh!

Mar-27-10  crawfb5: <N> The date of Lowenthal's death in CG's bio is indeed 1876.

http://www.chesslab.com/PositionSea...

agrees with Honza as to Black being <S> Lowenthal, not <Johann>:

[Event "?"]
[Site "Nuremberg"]
[Date "1883.??.??"]
[White "Tarrasch,Siegbert "]
[Black "Lowenthal,S "]
[Result "1-0"]
[ECO "C14"]

Perhaps Honza left a kibitz and did not submit a correction slip, or maybe he did and it fell between the cracks.

Mar-27-10  achieve: PS - in the player directory, there is but ONE Loewenthal, Johann, still listed as having passed in 1883 (??) and NO MENTION of a S. Loewenthal...

Goes to show you ... How hard it is to keep an accurate record over 200 years, let alone over 4000! heh
