Mar-30-10  madlydeeply: i am terrified of this dog

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l...

Mar-31-10  achieve: s/he looks s-w-e-e-t to me ...

That dog *is* huge btw

What breed is it? Neapolitan Mastiff?

Mar-31-10  Open Defence: looks like a Neapolitan Mastiff...
Mar-31-10  achieve: Yes <Deffi>, quite close, eh?

They can be as gentle as they are "Mastiff" :)

Mar-31-10  madlydeeply: dudes... a dog's head is not supposed to be three times the size of a human head! hmmm...i remember that human growth hormone was making athlete's heads grow... like that baseball fellah barry bonds...

http://cache.deadspin.com/assets/re...

hmm his head doesn't seem so big! Wonder what it looked like before...

http://oxtalks.files.wordpress.com/...

i think it did get bigger. horrors.

Mar-31-10  Travis Bickle: Hi Jess! I happened to see this message from you on The Fischer page. <jessicafischerqueen: There is a photo montage of <Fischer v. Petrosian> at the USSR v the WORLD Match in this video:

from 5:37 - 6:03> So I watched that video you made on Bobby, and it was magnificently done!! The precision it was made, the photo's and the music again with tension! I have to watch them all now! ; P

Mar-31-10  madlydeeply: This must be a sharpei/neapolitan mastiff mix.

Fascinating.

Mar-31-10  notyetagm: Ponomariov vs Carlsen, 2010

<GreenFacedPatzer: <To me, the remarkable thing in this game is the progress from say move 39 (where the position is perfectly symmetric, surely a draw!) to move 83 (where black's advantage is overwhelming.) How many grandmasters would agree to a draw on move 39? How many would have found a way forward?>>

How in the *hell* can a 2700-rated superGM like Ponomariov contrive to *lose* this position?

But 36 moves later, he is *dead* lost!

Mar-31-10  Ragh: <jessicafischerqueen: Op<ragh> Winfrey- thanks, but I really wish you would post more often and open your forum again. This place is a WASTELAND without you.> Thanks JFK, but haven't had much time for chess these-days (these-months, rather), ever since my long vacation to India, marriage, setting up home and so on. But, I will be planning on spending more time as the Anand-Topalov WC match approaches. I hope Anand retains his crown this time, since he's growing old (at 40+) you see. Go Anand!!

jessicafischerqueen: <kormier> thanks very much for that wonderful Michael Jackson song- I just happened to see a video of him performing with a young Britney Spears the other and I was struck by how much dynamic charisma both of them had, back in the day.

jessicafischerqueen: I am also lo fi.

I think I'm the "default setting."

Apr-02-10  Open Defence: did you see this one ?

http://www.flickr.com/photos/486979...

Apr-02-10  madlydeeply: Well jess my lazy ass finally clicked on your mozart of chess videos... what a mind blower. I loved seeing all those faces! And now I HATE that LOUSY Staunton! Bah! what a bully. Plus its funny that the French matches were all "for honor". Was the whole country broke at the time? Is that what led to that silly war chronicled in Zola's book "The Debacle"? Oops changed the subject.

Also you tricked me into listening into all the cool symphony music! I've been out of touch with that stuff for a couple years now because I've been concentrating on the bach lute suites. Like this lovely minuet

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLcm...

actually he plays both of them

Off the subject again

Really, jess, those videos were something else. Way more than i expected! Thank YOU Very much ma'am you made me very happy today

plus i'm dying to read/see a serious dissection of that Harrwitz match. Apparently (according to Neil MacDonald) Morphy had to set up a solid position and switch little attacks all over the board to finally break down Harrwitz. Also Morphy set up blocked centers in those games...the only time he "resorted" to such strategems.

And Barnes had his number, eh? Interessting. HMMMMmmm...

have a lovely day ma'am

Apr-02-10  madlydeeply: wow deffi that pigeon by the pool is lovely too... you really like to embrace color in your photographs! That photo wasn't the least bit photoshopped either was it? that's really neat the purple and the blues in the water
Apr-02-10  Open Defence: no I dont have photoshop, it was the early morning sun and the reflection of a blue and red sports complex in the puddle that contributed to the colour

the only downside is that I was using a crummy zoom on my digital point and shoot which has led to a loss of sharpness since I also needed to crop the image a lot being quite far away from the subject

this is the only serious downside to my gear in that the lens is slow so subjects like kids, birds, animals and fast moving subjects usually do not turn out well, but here the lack of sharpness actually makes the colours more interesting IMHO.. sort of like a light painting...

Apr-02-10  Open Defence: with this one I just adjusted the contrast in iPhoto on my Mac so that the background did not distract

Apr-02-10  Travis Bickle: Jess your back! I have some good news about that Fischer video from Iceland. I wrote the editor of New In Chess and he replied with this letter after I told him to take me off his mailing list. LOL

I'm sorry that the DVD "Me & Bobby Fischer" only is suitable for PAL video systems. And I apologize for sending this Newsletter to you and everyone else who doesn't have the possibility to view PAL DVDs.

The Americans use a different system: NTSC. In Europe, we can select the preferred system, Pal or NTSC perhaps your DVD player is able to switch between these systems to.

You don't have to go to Iceland to watch the DVD, although it may be a nice trip. :-)

The good news though is that this DVD will be available on NTSC within a couple of months.

We've removed your e-mail address from our mailing list.

Sincerely,

Casper Pieters

New In Chess

P.S. I asked him to be put me back on the mailing list which he did already. ; P
