| Apr-02-10 | | madlydeeply: hmmm i never thought of it before... my ex wife is a photographer and she never cared much about fast subjects...so in my head i filed it away as "sports" photography and never thought much of it...but then how is one to photograph a hummingbird without fast film/digitalis? didn't realize i had this photographic bias against fast motion... my favorite photographer is Salgado..
He utterly deifies the working class...here is a lovely Indian lady http://deutsche-boerse.com/dbag/dis... big cow!
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_EH7OLLQBt... now my photograph muscles are working i remember being lucky enough to see a lartigue retrospective at the pompedieu center he did that series with dali that included motion... http://theonlinephotographer.typepa... heres a famous racecar from when...1910s??
http://graememitchell.com/blog/wp-c... That sucker took photos from the 1890s to the 1980s!! umbelieveable! first photos were on the beach at seven years old... http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2526... |

| Apr-02-10 | | Open Defence: that photograph of the Indian lady working is fantastic and a good example of the mind's eye.. I see scenes like that every day but it never occurred to me to frame and compose like that.. |
|
| Apr-02-10 | | Open Defence: my first camera was a 6x6 Agfa Click III, I loved it, used to shoot only Black and White since colour film was too expensive.. when I was 10 a friend of my Dad who ran a photo lab gifted me a contact box, developer and fixer... and I developed my first roll with his help Since then I love 6x6 since even 1:1 developing turns out great and you dont have to worry about faulty enlarging etc with time I forgot all about photography since music took over.. and then chess I should dig up that Agfa though it should still be at home some where.... |
|
| Apr-02-10 | | Open Defence: one other "trick" I do to get more colour saturation when shooting digital is that I manually keep the "White Balance" setting on "Fluorescent" or "Shade" depending on the light, you sometimes need to compensate on the exposure but usually it will give nicely saturated and deep colours |
|
| Apr-02-10 | | hms123: <deffi> Actually shooting in the shade (or overcast days) helps color saturation a lot as well. You don't get the yellow sunlight ruining greens etc. Of course, if you taking a picture of something that is already yellow, that's a different story. (p.s., I love the bird with reds and purples). |
|
| Apr-02-10 | | Open Defence: <hms> actually I feel the shade helps yellows too, the yellow Bougainvillea were shot in the shade which gives them a more orange hue |
|
| Apr-02-10 | | hms123: <deffi> thanks for the info--good to know. |
|
| Apr-02-10 | | madlydeeply: Hah Sheik Yerbouti I know exactly where you got that...Jeff Lynne offa the Discovery Album Confusion! Its such a terrible shame!

| Apr-03-10 | | Red October: great video,
didnt like the wobbling photo of Anderssen
and the board colours (red and white) in the second half of the video looked very harsh on my monitor but usually my Mac is at a well balanced setting... dont mind the critics.. |
|
| Apr-03-10 | | Red October: she is my friend..
the creek is about 100 mts away from my flat (not seen in the photo) but you cant swim there (at least if you do you would probably mutate into Godzilla or something) since its filthy.. hence the Black and White shot... |

| Apr-03-10 | | Boomie: <Jessie: Morpheus IV> Enjoyed it.
There is one typo. The text for the 2nd Anderssen's opening game give a4 instead of a3. Big whoop. I suggest you use paintings from the period to heighten the sense of place and time. Although I do love the woodcuttings and such that you find. For England maybe Turner http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped.... Turner is not exactly in tune with the romantic tenor of the times but his colors are unbelievable and I include him to delight you. He is more an impressionist before that term was invented. Constable http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped.... Although Constable died earlier, he is one of their best landscape artists and landscapes have a timeless quality. For France someone like Corot http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped.... Anyhoo, you get the idea. Just thought it would be fun to send you on a romp through early 19th century art. |

| Apr-03-10 | | achieve: Hi <Jess>! Great to hear of your enjoyment of the wonderful music our norwegian friends posted! I have a little present for you:
http://thepiratebay.org/user/Sunny70/
You will find Susanna Sundfor's album <The Brothel> here from this user and it downloads like lightning... PLUS a Peter Gabriel torrent you surely are interested in I think... I'll be going in for the Morphy 4 vid - I am already lagging behind i notice... Btw I shamelessly stole all those Chess ebooks you linked chez HMS the Big One... hehe Mr Loves to Lurk and Download While He Was Sleeping |
|
| Apr-03-10 | | chessmoron: <<McLovin> is that really you?> Yes. I don the cape of Red Mist. |
|
| Apr-03-10 | | achieve: <Sister Upload> Great vid again, I keep gaining respect for this "prodigy/man"... though I found the music at the start a bit too "imposing" - but then thought maybe I should listen and watch a few vids in a row, as a playlist; that might put it in a better perspective.
But as usual it is jam-packed and I will go throught it again in my patented "play and pause" method... Btw - I am just now checking out the Peter Gabriel tracks, and especially one, featuring a <Paddy Maloney> (I remember that name from somewhere), and the song reminds me of Randy Newman, no doubt a "soundtrack song"... I think it's very beautiful, and Gabriel's voice is in great shape, he was a POWERHOUSE SINGER in his prime, no doubt. |
