jessicafischerqueen: Your over there regimen sounds salubrious! Interestingly, in Canada we save time by spelling "music and poker" as "moker." Initially we spelled it "poomus" but that sounded a little too declasse, even for us...

  jessicafischerqueen: <a few month's time>

That's bang on <Niels>.

No serious chess work can be done unless you can devote yourself full time to it.

There are exceptions of course- geniuses like <Dr. Tarrasch>, <Dr. Lasker> and <Dr. Euwe>.

And <Dr. Suess>!

But really it's a ten hour a day job IMO to learn anything in depth.

It's certainly true with regard to chess history too I'm finding.

"Scratching the surface of the surface" is all anyone could do unless they could devote full work days to the task.

Chess is a very, very, very difficult and time consuming discipline.

"Chess is not for wimps."

Apr-17-10  achieve: dumb question...

THE MAX EUWE CENTER of course!!

We do have a scanner at the door though...

BUT NOT SO!

Chess keeps unveiling new mysteries, myths, universes...

jessicafischerqueen: WHOA <Huygens> certainly a "Dutch Master" seeing as he pretty much invented everything in the world.

I didn't know he played chess too. I wonder if he was any good.

Apr-17-10  technical draw: Very good final (?) video on Paul Morphy <JFQ>. Pretty sad too. Of course the <JFQ> trademark appears "...in Petrov's defense..." lol!

jessicafischerqueen: Thanks for your notes <Touchdown!>. I couldn't resist as usual, probably spending too many dinners with the Cheaplaughs.

It is the saddest music I know and it was lost and you found it for me.

"Morte de Morphy"

What a word, "potential"... As in a "promise"? A scintilla of hope?

Morphy time...

Apr-17-10  achieve: <Jess> I thoroughly "enjoyed" (for lack of a better term atm) <Morphy Part six>... VERY gripping and befitting final segment, and the musical score is exceptional. Very nice still of young Max Euwe there too at the end, as all the photos of the former greats and legends in the game are wonderfully chosen.

and a large collection of Edward Winter entries/articles... Incredible find. Every single one of those 500+ files seems in pristine condition.

Domdaniel: <Niels> -- <Bishop v Knight> Hey ... that Meyer book, in actual print on paper format, is one of my secret weapons. And now you tell me anyone can access it?

It's getting harder every day to be an arrogant, vicious, data-hoarding elitist. Why do I go on, even?

For the *Knight pair*, is why.

jessicafischerqueen: <Niels> thanks for the notes and I'm glad you enjoyed the final chapter of <Paul Morphy>. "enjoy" is a lot better than "it was painful" which is what somebody wrote about <Morphy Part One>.

However, I did get some useful tips from that comment like changing the font. I found a font and color combination that is much, much easier to read. It will be debuted in the first video of the next TOP SECRET film series.

jessicafischerqueen: <Deffi> OUCH if that's Canada's finest then I'm Korean. Or I would be if Korean pop weren't significantly worse than "April Wine," and it is.

Why can't Canada make "Collie Wood" videos showing our culture, such as swilling maple syrup straight out of the bottle and putting all the Indians on reservations and then not giving them adequate housing, sewage, gas, and garbage pickup.

But nooooooooo.

jessicafischerqueen: <Dom> today's libraries and bookstores are online.

This is of course appalling in every conceivable sense except for how handy it is to steal every single book ever published.

"Steal All the Books" is the new "Steal this Book."

With a new message! Straight thievery instead of an anti-capitalist statement.

Domdaniel: <Jess> This makes sense. I have a copy of the old 'Steal this Book', kept locked away in case anyone does.

D'you think that it -- or any of my stuff, or indeed *me* -- might be saleable as an antique?

Apr-18-10  Travis Bickle: Jess I just watched your last film on Morphy and it was very well made! From the beautiful music to the pictures, informative narration & chess games. Jess excellent work Ms. Kubrick!! ; P P.S. as in Barry Lyndon to 2001 A Space Oddyessy! ; )

Apr-18-10  achieve: <Domdaniel: <Niels> -- <Bishop v Knight> Hey ... that Meyer book, in actual print on paper format, is one of my secret weapons. And now you tell me anyone can access it?> Errr... Possibly.... Is it that good?

But before we proceed: is it 'Meyer' or - the one I "own" - 'Mayer'??

We can not be careful enough.

<the *Knight pair*> I was a B&N man up until *very* recently , but I'd like to "expand on my preferences", as it were.
