May-18-10  Eyal: <Jess> Check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZ6M... - a rather nice bit from an interview Anand gave to chessbase, where he tells about Carlsen and Kasparov helping him in the match (Carlsen before, as a sparring partner, Kasparov both before and during); and according to a later part of the interview, Kramnik also helped him quite a lot during the match, almost like a second. And they all approached him on their own initiative. Looks like 1. Those guys just cannot keep away from a world championship 2. Anand is the more popular guy not just on this site...
May-18-10  Eyal: Oh, and 3. The human race apparently isn't lost yet, since Topalov, on his side, was using some sort of super-computer, with the latest Rybka 4 program exclusively reserved for his use until the end of the match...   jessicafischerqueen: <KRABAB> thanks so much = those links are truly excellent.

The Super Topalov Processor was particularly alarming. Did you notice this "fortunate error" on the translation?

<Veselin Topalov <<<is used by>>> one of the most powerful computers in the world for the match with Anand for World Chess Championship in Sofia.>

Cart before the horse.

As <The Grand Vizier> proved in game 12, eventually <Porn Star Toppsy Curvey> will encounter part of his "tree" he's never seen before, and then he has to play chess.

How heartening to hear that <The Grand Theatre> found Blitz sparring with <The Magnificent Thoroughbred Caerlon> to be good training for the Match.

And ironic perhaps that the succinct help of history's first chess centaur, <Garry I'm Way, Way Better Than These Other Guys> proved useful as well on the opening prep.

<The Grand Ole Opry> is likely the most popular person in the world.

And he'd probably be that even if he didn't play chess.

Sometimes there's no substitute for gentleness, humor, and good manners, not that I'd know anything about that obviously.

Come on, Jess, you're being too modest; you know plenty about humor...

jessicafischerqueen: Well I just hope the estimable <Rigatoni> knows his humor because I've just downloaded all <Sarah Silverman> available to humanity on his recommendation.

You may notice that my warning to reserve the dog tuxes ahead of time proved prophetic!

IM Jack Russell and his associate IM Small Browndschavilli are stars!

May-19-10  Travis Bickle: Jess you have a right to your opinion about the songs I play. ; P I've just been going through some bad days lately.
May-19-10  cormier: yes, i'm trying to plan for deep rybka 4, maybe next week ... i know rybka 4 is out .... and the rybka 4 opening book<(of course all this is for fun!!!)> ..... tks
May-19-10  Travis Bickle: Hey Jess, here's a link for a commercial for a video game using the band '30 Seconds From Mars' music. I thought you might find it interesting as you were thinking of making a horror movie.

May-20-10  crawfb5: Haven't done too much digging on Poppin Fresh, although it is unfortunate that the Pope's book is out of print. Anyway, here's a quote I pulled out of a ChessBase article:

<Kasparov quotes Alekhine, who many years later characterised the "American meteor" thus: "Pillsbury was, after Morphy, undoubtedly the greatest chess talent of the USA. However, their careers were completely different: whereas Morphy slowly, quietly and joylessly extinguished the candle of his life, Pillsbury aspired for the candle of his life to burn constantly at both ends. 'Wine, women and not harmless songs, but strong cigars' – that was Pillsbury's principle of life.">

I will look around for more stuff, as long as it doesn't take too much dough...

May-20-10  crawfb5: Here's another PF link:

Did you ever sort out your Google Books issue? Do you have Adobe Reader installed for PDF files?

May-20-10  Travis Bickle: Batgirl? Jess is Wonder Woman!! ; P

lol

That's a photoshopped version of Wonder Girl's Golden Winnebagos.

Most definitely her head, but it's been cropped and pasted (rather well) on a body that may or may not even be real. Possible the body part is pure animation, but I think it's more likely a real photo that's been "comic bookized".
