Here's a finish of a CC game that just ended this morning. Presented for your amusement...

I have White, and just played 1. Qf2 (from c2). This is a sneaky move. I think Black's best is to give up the exchange for a pawn with 1...Kxh7 2. Qxe3 Qxb2 and my King is so far out in the open, I think it's a probable draw. I have Stockfish chewing on it now, and it currently prefers 1...Qa1+ 2. Kc2 Rxc3+ 3. Kxc3 Kxh7 etc., but I think it probably works out to be about the same outcome -- my King is too exposed to mount a successful attack.

But Black tries to save the Rook. Oh no...that way lies madness. 1...Re8 2. Bg6 Qa1+ 3. Kc2 Qe8? (he had to give up the exchange with either Qe6 or Bg7 to stop the coming mate) 4. Qf6+ Bg7 5. Rxh6+ 1-0

With the Queen off the a2-g8 diagonal, it's mate (5...Kg8 6. Qf7#).

What if he leaves the Queen on the diagonal and tucks the Rook in the corner for safekeeping with 2...Ra8?

3. Qf6+

Now if 3...Bg7 4. Rxh6+ Kg8 5. Bh7+ Kh8 6. Bb1+ Kg8 7. Bxa2#

3...Kg8 holds out longer, but still loses -- 4. d5! and wins much like the other line.
