  jessicafischerqueen: IMPORTANT!!

If You Encounter a chess player…

Remain calm and avoid sudden movements.
Give the chess player plenty of room, allowing it to continue its activities undisturbed. If it changes its behavior, you're too close so back away.

If you see a chess player but the chess player doesn't see you, detour quickly and quietly.

If a chess player spots you, try to get its attention while it is still farther away. You want it to know you're human so talk in a normal voice and wave your arms.

Remember that a standing chess player is not always a sign of aggression. Many times, chess players will stand to get a better view.

Throw something onto the ground if the chess player pursues you, as it may be distracted by this and allow you to escape.

Never feed or throw food to a chess player.

Jul-26-10  BishopofBlunder: <Open Defence: well its quite common to see Indians line up against any wall they find convenient and relieve themselves...>

How barbaric! At least here in Texas, we have the common decency to use a trash receptacle in an alley, or a nearby tree or bush. Especially on the golf course.

Wouldn't peeing on a Bush be particularly gauche in Texas?

  jessicafischerqueen:

<TheFocus>: When you begin to play chess with the thought in mind "What would the computer do?" you begin to lose sight of what chess really is: a struggle between two minds, and not a struggle between computers. People do not think, or analyze, chess the way a computer does, and most people do not have the capability to do so. That is what makes chess so interesting, the fact that it is an imperfect game. Too many rank amateurs have begun to think that if Rybka does not support it, then it is no good. And what has this done for chess? Frankly, it had degraded the game to a certain extent. Defense has gotten worse, endgame play has degraded, players are to me not as creative as in years before. Ther will be no more Tals, no more Petrosians, no more Capablancas, no more Alekhines. Such a loss.

Yes, one man's opinion. But correspondence chess has suffered the most as you no longer know if you are playing John Smith, or John Smith and his computer.

Would some of the older masters stand up to computer scrutiny? Probably not. What really does that prove? They took chances against flesh and blood, not carbon and silicon. Yes, chess was better before. The beautiful games they left behind proves that.

jessicafischerqueen: <Canyonero> thanks for that trio- I didn't know those songs though IMO the best one- America- sounded familiar to me.

What a great song and a great band.

I liked the WEREWOLVES too although I'm not sure what they are doing in London.

You must know every single song ever made from 1970-1985.
