| Aug-15-10 | | LIFE Master AJ: Jess:
Check out this game, Chigorin vs Pillsbury, 1895. I was thinking of doing a "round-by-round" coverage. That way, if you wanted to include any of this in your video, you could. By the way, someone, (I think we both know who! <wink-wink>); sent me an e-mail. (To: "LifeMasterAJ@yahoo.com.") He told me that you had "fudged the facts" about Geller. I defended you. I flatly told him that while any human could make a mistake, there was no way that you would deliberately mess up the facts. I was honest. I told him that I had not (yet) had a chance to view the Geller material ... and while I have at least one book on Geller AND the book that Geller himself wrote, I did NOT consider myself a real expert on Geller. (Too many other players to keep track of.) I sent him the links for the Charousek video's. I told him that only someone who truly loved the game could do such a wonderful job. I also told him that I would put my knowledge about chess HISTORY up against any man alive today. (Maybe only Winter and Soltis could claim a clear superiority in this field.) Anyway, I told him that I had re-read my Charousek books ... and watched your video's several times. I told him that I never found any real inaccuracies. I am awaiting his reply ... ... ...

CG has just processed a number of mine, including <Poppin's> odds match, missing games from <New York, New York>, and <Lake Hobbit>. In other news, I took a quick look at Part I and made a quick comment or two, but I want to rewatch when I have more time and am less distracted before commenting further. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Thanks <AJ> I appreciate you taking the effort. However, I just checked again and it would be difficult for the Geller video to be "unfactual" mainly because it contains almost no information to begin with. There's nothing there that you couldn't find on the Wikipedia entry or in Bill Wall's online historical pages, which are the two main sources I used. <Gologram> did send a specific message as I mentioned- he objected to the notion that Geller be characterized as a "Ukranian Jew" as opposed to "dutiful Communist Russian Comrade". Gologram is against anything that would besmirch the impeccable reputation of the Soviet Chess Bureaucracy. Geller was no Bronstein, I'll admit- in that unlike Bronstein he didn't actually accuse the Soviet government of AntiSemitism and conspiring to block his career. However, Geller was observant (often playing in yamulke for example) and he certainly didn't regard himself to be either communist or "Russian." Like the rest of his colleagues from occupied provinces, he considered his actual home to be his home- in this case the Ukraine. I'm sure Gologram means well but the point he's upset about is surely a matter of interpretation more than an "either-or fact" like what year Geller was born or something. In Gologram's defense, there was in fact a bit of controversy over the editing of Geller's Wikipedia entry- an argument over whether it was necessary/advisable to even mention he was a Jew. |

| Aug-15-10 | | thegoodanarchist: I got it! I got the Fischer-Tal 1960 Olympiad puzzle. But only up to White's knight fork, and I analyzed no further. But I HAVE SOME BAD NEWS, JFQ: Your profile has an error: "BOBBY FISCHER 1943-2008
<All I want to do, ever, is just play <<<chess>>>>. Given to the world at age 16- Leipzig, 1960:
Fischer vs Tal, 1960
White to play-- "
Fischer was 17, not 16, for this game. His birthday is March 9th 1943 and this game is from November 1st, 1960, making him nearly 17 yrs. 8 mos. old. Perhaps you thought the date was european style, where 11/1/1960 would mean 11 January? |

Arguably, one of the most finely acted movies ever made. Not just Davis, but the entire cast. A masterpiece. |

| Aug-16-10 | | Travis Bickle: Hello Jessica, I posted this clip I just happened to see on youtube last night. In case you haven't seen it I thought I'd show it to you. Its from 1966. The audio vocal isn't very good but it really captures how cool The Beatles were to me when I was a young fan and awaited their every next, (new sounding) record. ; P http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lqb... |

| Aug-16-10 | | madlydeeply: <Arguably, one of the most finely acted movies ever made. Not just Davis, but the entire cast. A masterpiece.> Hmm i respectfully disagree with you sir. F'rinstance, if the 70s jack nicholson was playing the critic i would have hung on every word. Hence the person playing the critic was a hack saying lines with a snooty accent in my humble opinnion. I think Bette Davis outclassed everybody, i was always waiting for the rest of the cast to say there lines to get to the delicious Bette Davis stuff. "Whatever happened to baby Jane" had two awesome leads (Crawford/Davis) and so did "streetcar named desire" with Brando/Leigh. Those two movies spoiled me. tell the truth, so did GlenngarryGlennRoss. Well lots of movies. etc etc bleh blah blooo |
