Aug-31-10  LIFE Master AJ: Jess:

Good news!

Today, I got many things done.

#1.) I downloaded (and installed) the "ZD Soft" video recording software. (I have already run a test video, it works fine.) It cost $39.00, but I figure its a good investment ... and its a tax deduction, anyway. (I use my computer mostly for business.)

#2.) I installed Windows XP on my computer. When you personally install the "OS" (OS = operating system), you get to control what is (and is not) installed. (Initially, I did not allow many of the "ADD-ONS" ... as this would take up too much disk space.) However, since my new main drive is like 750 GB, I have plenty of room now. So I went back and installed "Windows Movie Maker."

# 3.) I downloaded and installed Microsoft NET Framework software.

# 4.) I downloaded and installed several video encoders, two of which were from Microsoft. (All of these were free!)

***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** *****

The bottom line? I am getting set up to make and record my own video's. (No competition to you, though. Initially, I plan on doing just game video's and maybe video's telling the stories of some of the greatest tournaments of all time.)

Of course, I have a lot of learning to do. I still have the e-mail that you sent me, the one with all the links to the good tutorials. Over the next few weeks, I will be watching those and also playing with the software ... trying to learn "the ins-and-outs" of this stuff.

You probably deserve the credit for this, I might not ever had the motivation to try all this new stuff without your support and encouragement. - aj

<Hesam7: Chessbase gives 25. Re1! as winning: 25. ... Nxg3 (25. ... Bxc4 26. Bxc4+) 26. Nd6+ Kf6 27. Nxc8 Rxc8 28. Rxc8 Nxc8 29. hxg3>

http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail...

<25.Bxe4? 25.Re1! would win the exchange. 25...Nxg3 (25...Bxc4 26.Bxc4+) 26.Nd6+ Kf6 27.Nxc8 Rxc8 28.Rxc8 Nxc8 29.hxg3.>

Kramnik overlooked what NM Heisman would call <THE UNDERRATED REMOVAL OF THE GUARD> (http://www.chesscafe.com/text/heism...), 25 ♖d1-e1!, attacking the Black e4-knight <DEFENDER> of the d6-forking square.

HEISMAN: <The logic “a guarded piece is not really guarded if the guard can be taken or attacked” is not emphasized in most beginner’s books.>

Change "guarded piece" to "theatened square" and you have a perfect description of the mutual oversight of Kramnik and Shirov both missing the <REMOVAL OF THE GUARD> 25 ♖d1-e1!.

I believe it comes from an Edward Lasker game in the 1920's.

I want to make it the primary example in my Game Collection: DECOY INTO PIN => APPLIED BALEFUL INFLUENCE.

Thanks

Jess: When you have a minute, you should really check out this game. (Its one of Karpov's best.) And I just took about 30 minutes to incorporate a few small corrections to this page. (I get e-mails all the time. When I get enough on one page, I take them out and do all the updates ... all at one time.)

The story behind the story (my involvement with the game) is also VERY amusing! For example, I had finished analyzing this game and was working on the "formatting" stage ... which could take many months, especially if the game was VERY complicated. Anyway, I was in the formatting stage, when my work was interrupted by a small waether problem. (Hurricane IVAN!!!!!)
