<In place of the Old Testament law, we are under the law of Christ (Galatians 6:2), which is to “love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind…and to love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:37-39). If we obey those two commands, we will be fulfilling all that Christ requires of us: “All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments” (Matthew 22:40)>

Domdaniel: Pretty sure that stuff is from an *old* book. There are newer ones.
Dec-21-10  twinlark: Well, I have been having fun shooting down some anti-gay raves on the Rogoff recently, which means I should probably get a life. I hope those discussions don't get deleted as I'd like to think they're thought provoking rather than offensive, but if they do, then I guess it's for the greater good of chess discussions on this site.

But they will keep recurring elsewhere on this site, and it will depend upon people to report them as admin are years past being able to keep up with every discussion.

I wonder though...is it better to have this out in the open and allow debate, or should it be swept under the carpet as long as no one is personally smeared or subject to racist attacks and insults? There are non-chess discussions allowed at Kibitzer's Cafe, the Kenneth Rogoff page, personal chessforums, Odd Lie, Beer and a few other places.

The posting guidelines don't really object to racist or sexist <views>, only to racist, sexist or profane <language>.

Just saying.

jessicafischerqueen: <Big Sodomy> is in fact an example of profane language- profane in every sense, in the context of the post in question.

It is in fact a form of racism- "racism" in the French usage, meaning discrimnation against any identifiable group without just cause.

This is not America. It's a community chess website. It's not somebody's blog. It's not a collection of blogs.

If the admins will enforce community posting standards- and they do- then I think they should enforce language that slurs gay people as well.

If you want "totally unfettered free speech" this website is not the plact to go- explicitly not so.

It is not meant to be a forum for "totally unfettered free speech."

It wasn't planned to be that, it isn't that now, and it will never be that.

There are plenty of other websites and media to indulge in any language you wish- both on and off the internet.

This isn't one of those places.

As I and a good friend was told: "If you and JFQ want to trade dirty limericks, there are plenty of other websites to do that."

This one for example:

http:///dirty_limericks.org

Finally, I don't believe that you don't object to racist views. That's the same as saying you don't object to racism. Exactly the same, in fact, as you've written it anyways.

Do you mean you don't object to the right of people to hold such views, and even express them publicly? That's very different.

Merry Christmas.

Anyone with any sense believes in <Doggimus>.

He's real!

Unlike mythical beings such as elves, or eskimos.

Dec-21-10  twinlark: Yowies are real!

jessicafischerqueen: <Doggimus> they might be. It would be a real "inconvenient truth" if they shot one and stuffed it on TV.

Then they could pass laws protecting them.

Skamania County in Washington State already passed a law forbidding the hunting of Sasquatch.

Some laughed!

But the Sasquatches were, and remain, grateful.

I think cg only gets involved and upholds their rules when there is out and out war.

jessicafischerqueen: <benji> I think you are correct.

Too bad, too. On the other hand I'm glad you accepted the gift, and even more glad you didn't decide to leave the website.

The site needs more people like you, not less.

We have it good here- tons of freedoms of every kind.

It's truly sad that such a hateful post came just three days before Christmas. Totally inappropriate- and doubly so, since <playground player> does in fact have his own Blog. I've read several of the articles there, because he linked it at his forum.

Ironically, I didn't see any hateful material at his personal Blog. I think he has the notion of "where is it appropriate to spew my hatred of other humans" mixed up. Backwards, in fact.

At any rate it absolutely does not belong at chessgames.com.

Worst of all, in my view- since I happen to love Christmas-- such hateful utterance is anathema to the spirit of Christmas, or any other kind of community good feeling.

I feel the same way about you.

Where I grew up, this is the season for saying such things out loud about your family and friends.

Your important top secret experimental EMU worked! Thanks for including such an upbeat and "jaunty" note as well.

Thanks--hms123
