 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Neils> as a matter of fact, in the course of the sadly unfinished "Woody beat the hell out of yourself" consultation game- wasn't there a dizzying multiple exchange of keys? I think you and I may have posted with each others' account even. Am I imagining it?
At any rate chess has a stronger pull on me than ever- so chess ahoy by all means, I'm with you there. I spent so much time researching and making a video I haven't even finished... but for... I played "Little Chess Partner" today to remind myself how to beat it. I'm not sure how advisable this might be as "training"- given that what it actually trains you for is how to beat something that won't make a tactical blunder but can only see two and a half moves ahead. I missed all but the big highlights of the LONDON BRIDGE IS FALLING tourney of stars- <Eyal> analysis and a few videos I watched as well, a few interviews- I actually watched all of <Kingscruffer's> rounds from the Open FIDE section since he uploaded them all. He finished 5/9, a solid effort- his account of "chess psychology" in these videos perhaps not to be missed... It also struck me that the "rating point range" he faced was almost 1000. The difference between his lowest and highest rated opponent was almost 1000 FIDE points. ?!????!!!
If you reopen the center for the Wijk VAN Zee, as some- those who are mistaken- spell it, I can't think of a more appropriate time. I was just reading US Champion <Arnold Denker's> accounts of <Dr. Euwe> up close and personal. Denker swears by Euwe, a real gentleman and a load of fun to hang out with as well. The doctor also appears in my video- or he will if I ever upload it. He wins the Amateur World Championship at the 1938 Nederlanders Ahoy Olympic games, but the game I featured is him losing to the silver medalist- the enigmatic, and also well loved Polish master <Dawid Pterodactyl>. Ok back soon- |

| Dec-25-10 | | achieve: <Jess> Thanks for your sincere thoughts and links, and warm account of Dr Euwe, kind man indeed, well, you covered a lot of ground, hehe, so I promise to get back to you later in detail, when I have had the chance to check out the Cruffers vidz... Preparing to leave for Xmas dinner now while watching a few films at the same time... NOT such a stark plan, I admit. Ok - see you later |
|
| Dec-25-10 | | achieve: PS - of course we did exchange keys, but I think I deleted the email on semi-purpose, security, privacy sensitive and all that, and I'm sure if I take the time it'll pop up and knock at the cortex... Entropanto's "sister", phonetically, or rhythmically.... It's a knockin allaready ;) |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Niels> your plan sounds rich to me- movies dinner friends holidays- I had my big social evening on the Eve as they say.
I also lost your keys, and Woody's.
Ok I think Woody Boomie and you had my keys- I had Woody and your keys- I can't remember any of them either. We posted as each other- you and I- and I posted as Woody for several days- nobody noticed either! heh
In our defense, however, I gave <Big Crawdaddy> my keys and he promptly filed them in the wastepaper basket. Since he is a noted- notorious even- figure in his home town, local "trash divers" recycled the scrap of paper with my passwords. They have been making "rogue posts" on a regular basis. Well OK they haven't but it could have happened... |
|
| Dec-25-10 | | achieve: heh - yeah I remember we even confused and scared the crap out of ourselves a few times when having forgotten to switch back! Well, something like that, at least it stirred up the juices.. I hope Woody is well. I turned off the Manchurian Candidate, and <The Town> (with and by Ben Affleck... I always have to put 4-5 films on a Rewritable DVD to get 4+ Gigabyte filled) - to make sure I didn't procratinate long enough to get in a frantic hurry and be late; I hate being late. Ok - gotta go, and btw I do hope you'll finish <your> film, when you get around to it... I'll indeed enjoy a week with little to no obligations! |

| Dec-25-10 | | crawfb5: <In our defense, however, I gave <Big Crawdaddy> my keys and he promptly filed them in the wastepaper basket.> An "IT" moron at Doreen's workplace trashed a bunch of stuff on the old computer under the pretext of "fixing" it. I wasn't necessarily planning on <using> the keys, but I saw no reason to discard them. <Since he is a noted- notorious even- figure in his home town, local "trash divers" recycled the scrap of paper with my passwords.> True enough, but I don't write such things down. Actual paper is <so> 1990s...besides, I have a shredder and know how to use it. If it were only big enough to dispose of corpses... <They have been making "rogue posts" on a regular basis.> Rogue, rogue, rogue your posts, bitwise down the stream... It's cold here, but we have no snow. We have only seen light flurries this year with no accumulation so far. What I like best about Christmas (and Thanksgiving, for that matter) is how quiet it is. Not many people out and about. A nice fresh snow makes everything look better and muffles sound, enhancing the quiet. My preferred way of spending Christmas would be hiking in the woods in fresh snow, but we make do with what we have. The dogs are excited, but every day is Christmas to a puppy. If we're home, they're happy. |

| Dec-26-10 | | achieve: Surprise surprise! - Doc Euwe has magically returned! A benefactor behind the scenes? To me as of yet anonymous... But I must say a warm surprise, and thanks to whomever made this happen. :) My "favourites" are all back in colour; the OE is back in full working order- Dear me ... |

| Dec-28-10 | | Travis Bickle: Did you have a good Chrsitmas?
<jessicafischerqueen: Thanks for <Charlie Brown> Travis- that might be everyone's favorite cartoon special of all time, except possibly in Iran.Although even there it's rumored they have a woefully mistranslated version called "It's a Charlie Brown Jihad."> HAHAHAHAHA!!! I thought maybe you had satelite or cable. Wishful thinking I guess. ; ( P.S. Here's a small consolation for missing tonight's show. Paul Mac gets a Lifetime Achievment Award in from actress Meryl Streep back in 1990. That's the year I seen him in concert twice in Chicago and then a few months later in Indiana. ; P http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGdf... Part 1

| Dec-29-10 | | TheFocus: <jess> On my Game Collections page, I have added all four of Bobby's Olympics if you want to list them on your Major Tournaments List above. I will be adding more of Bobby's tournaments each week. |

| Dec-29-10 | | TheFocus: From my Forum:
<jessicafischerqueen>< "Jewmas" lolWell you've done it again- a holiday saga that sounds like it was written by Raymond Chandler. Thanks for those new collections- I'll be adding them all to the Profile. Did you upload any new Bobby games for any of the collections?> I am submitting the Matthew Green game from New York State Open 1963. It is included in the tournament heading until it gets added to <CG>. Any other games that I find that are missing will also be submitted. Besides the Olympiads, I also entered six tournaments today. My goal is now to do every Fischer tournament. |

 | | Phony Benoni: <JFQ> Whilst eavesdropping on your correspondence with <The Focus>, I noticed you were still collecting and submitting Charousek games. Not knowing that, I had already submitted one I came across recently. Beu, Mihaly - Charousek, Rudolf Reszo
1st Hungarian champ. corr 1893-97
1.e4 e5 2.f4 exf4 3.Nf3 g5 4.h4 g4 5.Ne5 Bg7 6.Nxg4 d5 7.Nf2 dxe4 8.Nxe4 Qe7 9.Qe2 Nc6 10.c3 Nh6 11.Nf2 Be6 12.d4 Nf5 13.Bxf4 Nfxd4 14.cxd4 Nxd4 15.Qd2 Bb3+ 16.Be2 Bc4 17.Nc3 0-0-0 18.Rc1 Nxe2 19.Qe3 Nxf4 0-1 I found this game at http://www.endgame.nl/cc-history.htm. Here is an annotated version, with notes by Jan van Reek. [Correspondence chess became a training ground for recent talents. When the magazine 'Budapesti Sakkszemle' held the first Hungarian championship, it became a race between the young men Charousek and Maroczy. Rudolf Charousek gave the moves to his father, a telegraphist.] <1.e4 e5 2.f4 exf4 3.Nf3 g5 4.h4 g4 5.Ne5 Bg7 6.Nxg4!? d5! 7.Nf2?!> [Better is 7.Qf3! ] <7...dxe4 8.Nxe4 Qe7 9.Qe2 Nc6 10.c3 Nh6 11.Nf2> [11.Ng5?! withdraws a knight from the defence (Anderssen-Knorre, Berlin 1865).] <11...Be6 12.d4?> [12.d3! (Cordel) 12...Nf5 13.Bxf4 (Steinitz-Schlechter, Vienna, 1897).] <12...Nf5 13.Bxf4 Nfxd4!> [Rudolf proves to be a gifted attacker.] <14.cxd4 Nxd4 15.Qd2 Bb3+! 16.Be2 Bc4 17.Nc3 0-0-0 18.Rc1 Nxe2 19.Qe3 Nxf4!> [The point is 19...Nxf4 20.Qxe7 Nxg2#] 0-1 |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Phony Benoni> wonderful- and thanks for posting it, as well as the <Dave Van Ronk> link. He's truly dedicated.
<Charuchin's> biography gives a decent account of <Charousek's> little known, but very active Correspondence career, and a good number of games as well. I hadn't seen this one before though. |

| Dec-31-10 | | achieve: Happy New Year, <Jess>! Here's hoping to a great start chess-wise with Wijk am See arriving soon. Really the historical Euwe footage <eyal> posted suddenly and positively had the chess-Bug bite me again. I (and the Center, heh) needed that. And the footage *is* top rate, especially the 50min docu, from which I will post more quotes and citations. Truly mouthwatering, also from a historic point of view. Donner, Ree, Timman, and Jan's mother! - fascinating stuff, mostly in Dutch of course, but the scenes involving Spassky, Salo Flohr, Capa etc. are in English, conveniently. heh Best wishes for 2011 ! |
