jessicafischerqueen: Your over there regimen sounds salubrious! Interestingly, in Canada we save time by spelling "music and poker" as "moker." Initially we spelled it "poomus" but that sounded a little too declasse, even for us...

Jan-08-11  hms123: <jess> I didn't know that if you "ignored" someone that you couldn't post on their forum. Although I believed you, I just tested it myself to be sure. Live and learn.

jessicafischerqueen: Well that's true science, <H>, which proves there are indeed some scientists in the social sciences- viz, you, in this case.

Which is more than can be said for the odd John Lennon impersonator, who divined "you seem personally offended" from the sentence "well, he should have."

To mangle one of <Annie's> jokes, some people are living film projector machines.

How very odd...

Jan-08-11  hms123: <jess> He's new to the site and is just learning not to take life so seriously.

BTW, I don't think anyone enjoyed <Tiny Tim>--it was more like watching a train wreck. He was just a novelty act.

jessicafischerqueen: I think <LennonImpersonator> is a novelty act which will not "learn" anything at this site.

That's my prediction and I'm sticking to it, until proven wrong.

Which is usually inevitable, of course.

Jan-08-11  hms123: <jess> I have learned over the years not to bet against your predictions. "Scientist" that I am, however, I will wait for the data to come in.
Jan-08-11  achieve: <Jess> Wanted to take the time to congratulate you on the "stunning" quality of the <Akiba Rubinstein and Polish Chess> trilogy.

And I deliberately chose the word stunning, because of the leap in quality that literally "stunned" me; the mixing of the musical score, "under" the narration by your friend Richard, the use of polish composers, notably Chopin of course... It's all wonderfully done, and the dramatic moments are professionally scripted and edited.

I hardly dare utter this tiny point of criticism (if that's the correct term), in that- in a very few instants- I had trouble discerning the Black pieces when on dark squares; at least on my screen the dark squares were too dark, but let me hasten to say that my overall monitor resolution has a rather dark setting. But of course the contrast between the piece and square must be sufficient.

And to end on a "philosophical high note":

"It's no loss to surrender a dear thing for someone beloved."

(from your first of three videos at 3:30 - http://www.youtube.com/user/jessica... - the chessboard contrast is perfect there by the way.)

Jan-08-11  cormier: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QN-p...
Jan-08-11  achieve: <Jess> Correction re the contrast thingy, which I should specify and limit only to <black Pawns on dark squares> - which are the (very!) few instances I referred to where I have trouble discerning them. Difference with the "Pieces" being the little white ligning they have, which brings *them* out perfectly on dark squares.

Ok then!

;)

Jan-09-11  playground player: <jessicafischerqueen> I accept your apology. Do you know I never even saw that post about Carlsen, and didn't know what anybody was talking about until <tpstar> cleared it up for me?

If There's ever a most popular Kibitzer Caissar in the future, you have my vote.

That Rubinstein series was absolutely fantastic, the finale...incredible.

Annie K.: <Jess> "now there's somebody who could always find work in a cinema... as a projector." ;)

I'll second <twinlark> - "fantastic" is the precise term there. :)

Jan-09-11  Travis Bickle: Jessica, Great chess video documentary!! The chess facts and other data were organized and presented extremely well! The music was very good! Your pacing of game play was improved! For me the narration was and added upgrade to make your presentation very well constructed, both educational and entertaining except of course for the atrocities that took place. Your best yet Jess! Bravo!!

chancho: I can't top what <Travis> said about the videos <Jess>. All I can say is that I enjoyed them.
Keep em coming.
Jan-10-11  achieve: <Jess> just a quick message to confirm what I said at my place about my new comp and video card, re <black pawns on dark squares>, in that movies that I download are also - almost without exception - underlighted, as eg in my favored VLC player, but using the great tool of "<gamma> beef-up" I can bring all the detail and contrast up to compensate. So in that regard my video defaults only enhance a lack of contrast or clarity, if there is any to speak of. But - If it's ok with you then that's it. You're the judge. Only thing for me to do is work out how to adjust the YT flash player.

And you enjoy all the raving reviews your latest (co-produced!) masterpiece is getting!

Jan-10-11  hms123: <jess> I got up early to watch your 3-part series on AR. It was very well done, indeed. It was terrific. Spell-binding.

Jan-10-11  Open Defence: I used to watch them when i was younger, those were the good old days of the beeb
Jan-10-11  dakgootje: First one reminded me of

Which actually has one Ronnie.
Second sketch is absolutely brilliant!

Jan-10-11  hms123: <dak> Very funny. I have a lot of watching to do. (after I send you a long-overdue email)
Jan-10-11  crawfb5: <Jess> I have a <Rasta Limo Service> photo I need to scan and email to you. Is there anything else I should send at the same time, you know, to save the electrons?
Jan-10-11  technical draw: Terrific videos <JFQ>! Thanks for the pronunciation lessons too. 45 years mispronouncing Alekhine! (and most others). Those videos are TV prime time ready as they are right now. Excellent work.
Jan-10-11  achieve: <Jess> Regarding adjusting, enhancing video properties, graphics etc. from your desktop - brightness, saturation, contrast, hue, and gamma - check out this site for example:

http://www.intel.com/support/graphi...

Separate from that the VLC media player (VideoLan) itself simply has a "effects/filters" option in the main menu bar to manipulate just about any Video/Audio property, you choose.

We learn as we go along ...
