|
Feb-08-12 | | achieve: <Jess> I have been poking around with some of my new toys (cell phone and digital cam) and with my cell I can record 14 sec clips (video + audio) that I can eg use for pronouncing Dutch Chessplayers' names, completely flawless, no Rotterdam or Amsterdam accent, just how it should sound. And of course add those to an email file, you only needed like a VLC player to immediately listen to the files. Added to that I DLed a program called "Audacity" which allows you/me to record sound and voice through HD microphone, ten times better quality, and those files you would be able to hear much more clearly if you just download their software in a few secs- they're .aud files - bleedy snobs. But if you're smart you can convert to wav or wmv, if needed - but most important is you would have the ability to listen to the most useful and authentic pronunciation. Interested? Pronunciation live by Dr Euwe himself? |

Bobby was afraid that if he had defended against Karpov in 1975, the Russians would have had him murdered. --- Pal Benko |
|
Feb-09-12 | | achieve: <Jess> Good stuff, take it easy, while I sent you some audio files today, bit 'amateurish' in their non scripted and 'p' popping way at times, but rapid improvement is to be expected. And to be honest I find it 'fun to do' - playing around with the program, with the sound, basically the first time for me to work and edit sound on my computer, something i thusfar for some reason felt awkward with and unfriendly towards. But with my current set of hard and software this appears to have changed. Can't be bad! |

Feb-12-12 | | brankat: Hi Jess!
<,..and keep falling asleep at work...> That's an ingenious modus operandi! You are then well rested to do the truly important work after work :-) |
|
Feb-12-12 | | achieve: <Jess> Hope you're feeling a bit better by now! Been busy this morning trying to get my voice recording upto standard, and since my standard is the recording quality I get when using HQ mic and <minidisc> device, which I will rate as 9/10, 10 being professional equipment, I'm not "that wild" about <audacity>. That said, it can certainly pass for several purposes, voice recording being one of them, and I would rate it a 6 out of 10, as I am unable to lose the noise, when upping the decibels on playback, or tackle it from the other end, put my mouth almost touching the mic, and the p's and sss's and fff's are a bit of a nuisance. But with my current latest test I actually was reasonably satisfied. Ideally I would like to use recording from my minidisc, but those I cannot convert to mp3 --- it is possible, but I do not have the software, and honestly, the results with audacity are now satisfactory. |

Feb-12-12 | | Travis Bickle: Wow Jess, your multi tasking biographies! I'm most interested to see your videos of Tal & Alekhine! ; P |

 | | harrylime: Re my game Jess , it was an english opening .. c4 e5 ect.. I rushed thru an early b4 and held back on d3 because I've seen Carlsen doing it in 'guess the move' on this site lol My opponent could've almost equalized if he'd played d5 to meet this, but he played a Nc6 instead and after I hit it with b5 he was always struggling .. the moves seemed to play themselves after this.. just felt like an 'english' players dream position. Anyway I've gotta few other recent wins to post but don't wanna bog your forum down in them. I am on a streak just now but when I lose I will post too !..Hope you're well. <Harry> |

Feb-12-12 | | Travis Bickle: Jess here's Paul McCartney's first single he released for the radio after The Beatles split. He was In Nashville and you can hear a little tinged country guitar in parts. P.S. The look in his wife Linda's eyes reminded me of you after that jet lag & 1st day in class. ; P http://youtu.be/vH6v9JS26xc |
