jessicafischerqueen: Your over there regimen sounds salubrious! Interestingly, in Canada we save time by spelling "music and poker" as "moker." Initially we spelled it "poomus" but that sounded a little too declasse, even for us...

I'm making another "Requiem video" with you in mind- I'll post it here in my forum when I finish it.

WannaBe: <Live film footage...> Isn't that an oxymoron?

  jessicafischerqueen: My dear <MannBee>

No!

You see, you could film a photo still. You could make a 4000 hour film of a photo still of the Empire State building.

This would be "dead film footage."

Or you could film some flies who had expired, without fanfare, on your window sill.

This would be another kind of "dead film footage."

To be "live film footage" something has to be moving. So, for example, a Bugs Bunny cartoon would be "live film footage" of a rabbit, eminently suitable for either light entertainment or a nature documentary.

May-21-11  playground player: <Jessicafischerqueen> Your Steinitz video has really stuck in my memory, and I find myself with a deepened appreciation for him.

I'm intrigued by his "Steinitz Attack" (1.e4,e6 2.e5) against the French Defense. Does anybody around here ever use it?

May-21-11  Travis Bickle: Thanks for your email Jess! ; )

May-21-11  messachess: Well that was short <Jess>. Did I embarrass you by drawing too much attention to your game comment? I am afraid that I may have tried to have too much fun and it turned out to be at your expense. If so, and that's how you feel, I apologize.

jessicafischerqueen: <Messachess> no, no I've never been offended by any post you've ever made.

I'm not quite sure what you're talking about though.

Do you have a second premium account you use to watch the live games here at chessgames.com?

If so, what is the ID name?

If you see me posting on a live game page and then suddenly disappear, can mean only one of these three things:

1. I'm staring obsessively at the web cam feed.

2. I'm obsessively sparring out a variation from the live position against my chess engine.

3. I fell asleep before the mandatory 14 move draw rule was enforced.

May-22-11  pulsar: <JFQ> As one of GM Eugene Torre's fans, I'm thankful that you posted the link to the video. The man, a legend in his own right, is a gentleman on and off the board. I know that he visits his page once in a while so I'm quite sure he'll see the video. And we (with some of my friends) will mention it to him next time we get to see him. GM Torre has very nice stories about the great Bobby Fischer, but I am not privileged to divulge the very little I heard.

There's not much to talk about in Chairman's page, so you will find almost anything there. :)

jessicafischerqueen: <pulsar> I'm not surprised to hear he is a gentleman, as is <Wesley So>.

Long may Chairman prosper.

May-22-11  Travis Bickle: Hello Jess, I still don't see the new avatar. It would be on the last page of the 10 right?
May-22-11  Travis Bickle: I tried to write them and still I can't get through! Dammit!!

jessicafischerqueen: <Travis> your show version has a much better sound recording.

Also, did you notice that <Viktor Korchnoi> is playing the lead guitar?

Look closely at his hair- I'm sure I'm right about this.

jessicafischerqueen: Actually I just noticed that concert was filmed by the great British director <Richard Lester>.

No wonder the sound, lighting, and camera work is so great.

May-22-11  Travis Bickle: Jess, that victor Korchnoi clone is actually Hamisch Stewart from The Average White Band from yesteryear, ya know the song 'Pick Up The Pieces'. The lead guitarist is Robbie MacIntosh from The Pretenders band of the past! Sir Paul had some good players!
May-22-11  Travis Bickle: Jess & Deffi here's Lennon & Madison Square Garden N.Y. singing a Beatle tune with and open end tuned guitar drinking a Miller's Beer! ; P

May-22-11  crawfb5: Game Collection: Showalter - Lipschutz 1892 match

Game Collection: Showalter - Hodges 1894 match

and

Game Collection: Showalter - Hodges 1894 rematch

are all more or less complete, barring the usual tweaks and corrections.

"Game collections are never finished, only abandoned."

That leaves me with the two Showalter-Judd matches and whatever I can dig up on the two pre-Morphy Stanley matches. I am taking the working assumption that Showalter-Lipschutz 1890 really didn't happen despite whatever they may have planned. In either event, I can't find anything definitive, so it's like it never really happened anyway.
